GW21 Stats

Premier League GW19 Wednesday 1st January 2020

This is either the last stats based article of 2019 or the first of 2020 (depending on when you set eyes on it) and regardless of which side of the calendar you digest this, I hope the new decade treats you just as well as the last.

Right that's the sentiment out of the way, let's get down to business and that business is what is quickly becoming the internet's favourite number based series. Yes without further ado, it is time for another round of…..

Did You Know?

Manchester City have won 39 of their last 45 home matches (Premier League). While number 39 can be attributed to a rather neat assist from the referee on Sunday.

Liverpool have won their last 17 home matches (Premier League). Fortress Anfield? You better believe it and after getting the better of Wolves on Sunday, they move one step closer to an invincible Premier League season.

There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 9 of Chelsea's last 10 away games (Premier League). This streak was continued on Sunday, as they got the better of Arsenal and the only game where this wasn't the case was Chelsea's recent 2-0 win over Tottenham.

Watford have conceded the most goals from penalties in the Premier League this season, with 5. Early ill discipline for The Hornets, but you get the feeling that will no longer be the case under manager Nigel Pearson.

Norwich have not won any of their last 7 Premier League outings and although that doesn't look good on paper, there's no doubt the Canaries are at least throwing caution to the wind. They may be bottom of the table, but there have been far worst top-flight outfits in the past.

Norwich have attempted the fewest crosses per game in the Premier League this season, with 12.7. Interesting, but you cannot see Norwich adapting their style of play and that's for better or most probably worse.

Everton have had the most attempts from set piece situations in the Premier League this season, with 26. It seems as all is good in the blue half of Merseyside and if Carlo Ancelotti can use the rest of the season wisely, then they will be in a strong position for the start of the new campaign.

Manchester City have had the most shots off target from inside the box in the Premier League this season, with 83. It probably look as if they are incredibly wasteful in front of goal, although when you consider just how many chances they actually create, they can arguably afford to miss so many efforts.

Nick Pope (Burnley) has attempted the most long balls in the Premier League this season, with 491. That could be the most Burnley based stat ever.

Or is it: Burnley have dribbled past their opponents the fewest times per game in the Premier League this season, with 6.55.

Wolves have allowed their opponents the most attempts from set piece situations in the Premier League this season, with 31. Just don't mention the VAR. (You might have to ask your Dad to explain that joke)

The team that has the highest percentage of aerial duels won, is not Burnley but actually Brighton. The Seagulls have won 54.7% of all jousts in the air.

Manchester City have the highest average pass accuracy in the division this season at 88.5%

Tottenham are the club that has seen the most players sent off this season with three and they've also picked up 45 bookings, making them the most ill-disciplined team in the division.

Danny Ings and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have increased the goal contributions to Southampton and Arsenal respectively and they have each scored 50% percent of their employer's goals this season.

If you were to take away the goals for one of those clubs, they would be in a relegation scrap…..I guess you could say the same for Southampton also.

In last week's article I mentioned that Jefferson Lerma was the player who has picked up the most cautions with 8. He is now joined in this very elite members club by Luka Milivojevic and Jorginho should the latter have been sent off against Arsenal, let us know in the comments below.
