Premier League GW28 Friday 27th February 2020
With the Carabao Cup Final being the main event this weekend, it means that we have a slightly curtailed Premier League schedule and although we are still a couple games short of the usual load, there's going to be no shortage of drama.
Liverpool may have their fingertips on the title and although the race to be crowned champions played out weeks ago, the spotlight will be on whether they can continue their incredible unbeaten run.
In addition to that, Manchester City's pending UEFA ban has blown the European places wide open and of course, the battle to avoid the drop is one that looks set to go all the way to the final day of the campaign.
That means, there is going to be plenty of focus on the teams at the bottom and they will play a big part in our usual batch of weekly numbers. That's because, it is time for everyone's favourite statistical series….
Did You Know?
Liverpool have won their last 18 matches (Premier League). Let's be honest they were close to that run coming to an end on Monday, but when you are a team as imperious as the Reds, when your luck is in, it is very much in.
Their unbeaten run now stands at 44 Premier League matches and they will have to send a huge thanks to Lukasz Fabianski, after his Monday night howler for West Ham. One that made the hapless former Hammer Roberto look good.
Brighton have drawn their last 3 home matches (Premier League). Graham Potter's men are certainly picking up points, but you do worry about the failure to convert draws into wins. Is this something that is going to catch up with them on the final day of the season?
Especially when you consider that they and West Ham currently possess the longest streak without a Premier League win a record that stands at 7 each. The only positive that the Seagulls can take, is that they have drawn their last 3.
Whereas David Moyes' men have lost four of their last six, something that suggests a huge FPL red flag as far as the Hammers are concerned.
There have been under 2.5 goals scored in Man Utd's last 5 away games (Premier League). I have a sneaky feeling that won't be the case this weekend, as they travel to an Everton side who certainly know where the goal is.
James Tarkowski (Burnley) has made the most defensive clearances in the Premier League this season, with 141. Whatever Burnley have been doing over the past five weeks is certainly working, as they have earned incredible 13 points from the last 15 on offer.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's brace against Everton has taken him to joint top of the Premier League Golden Boot chart and with 17 goals to his name, he is responsible for 44% of Arsenal's top-flight goals this season.
That is the joint highest percentage contribution of all the top 10 forwards this season, a record he shares with Danny Ings of Southampton (15 from 34). Although it must be said, the Saints have shown less of a reliance on their talisman as of late.
Whereas, it seems as if Aubameyang has stepped up to the plate and if Arsenal do one bit of good business in the Summer, it surely will be making sure the Gabonese hitman stays at the Emirates for at least one more year.
Ben Foster (Watford) has played the most forward passes in the Premier League this season, with 728. 728 of those have somehow included a form of timewasting.
Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) has had the most assists in the Premier League this season, with 16. That said, he was incredibly lucky not to have given away a penalty in last Saturday's 1-0 win at Leicester.
Wolves have kept a clean sheet in their last 3 matches (Premier League). With Tottenham's lightweight attack, there is every chance that run could extend to 4 on Sunday.
There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Bournemouth's last 7 games (Premier League). That could be a good bet for this weekend, as they play host to a resurgent Chelsea.
Newcastle have failed to score in their last 3 matches (Premier League) and regarding that:
Joelinton - 1 Premier League goal, 2130 minutes played. Bleak.
