Game Week 29 Captain Picks

Share post on:
FPL Holly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for Gameweek 29. It's been a difficult time for captaincy, with Mo Salah delivering just once in his last 5 games. With North London and Merseyside Derby's this weekend, the captaincy challenge is set to continue. Those who went against the grain of Mo Salah were rewarded in Gameweek 28, with other popular options Aubameyang and Aguero both delivering. It was a week for the differentials, with our punt on Jamie Vardy coming good, as well as an impressive “Park the Bus” haul from Andrew Robertson. Big games over the weekend may cause some headaches, and it's worth bearing in mind that Manchester United, Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea are all involved in European action next week: Manchester United have the toughest task of progressing as they trail 2-0 to PSG and Aubemayeng could see his Premier League minutes managed given Lacazette's Europa League ban.

Shield Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Everton (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 19/20 It may be a barren spell, and a Merseyside Derby, but Salah is still the highest owned player in the game, with the most FPL points, so retains his place as the Shield Pick. It's worth noting that Salah has blanked in two consecutive games, but has never gone three games without returning a goal or an assist since arriving at Liverpool. Despite failing to deliver in the 5-0 thrashing of Watford, Salah did manage 4 shots with 2 on target. Are you playing safe with the Shield Pick?

Sword Pick: Paul Pogba vs Southampton (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 5/4 Paul Pogba should be rotation proof in this fixture, despite the PSG tie looming, especially given there's a big gap between Saturday and Wednesday, plus key injuries elsewhere in the squad. He has 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 4 games, and has blanked just once at Old Trafford since the arrival of Solskjær. With penalties in his locker too, another big performance could be just around the corner. Southampton have just 1 clean sheet in their last 7 games, conceding 2+ goals each time they've faced top six opposition this season. Will you take a risk on the Sword Pick?

Form Pick: Sergio Aguero vs Bournemouth (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 8/13 Aguero may be fatigued after playing a significant number of minutes in recent weeks, but given Jesus is struggling with a hamstring injury, he looks set for another start here. His form is incredible, with 7 goals in his last 4 games: he's blanked in just one Premier League start since returning from injury. Aguero has 3 goals and 1 assist in 4 starts against the Cherries. Bournemouth have failed to keep a clean sheet in his last 4 games, conceding 11 goals in that spell, including 5 to Arsenal midweek. Are you opting for another Aguero masterclass?

Fixture Pick: Raheem Sterling vs Bournemouth (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 5/6 Having been given a rest midweek and putting in a creative performance from the bench, Sterling looks set for another start here. He has suffered from rotation recently, but has 2 goals and 3 assists from his last 4 Premier League appearances. He also scored a goal in the reverse fixture, which City won 3-0. Will you chase a big Raheem performance in this favourable fixture?

Reverse Pick: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang vs Spurs (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 5/4 Many managers will be tempted to ditch Aubameyang given the tough fixture, Europa League rotation and looming blank gameweek, but his performance in the reverse fixture may make managers think again. Arsenal's emphatic 4-2 win against Spurs in Gameweek 14, came with 2 goals and 1 assist for Aubameyang. He has 1 goal and 1 assist across his last 4 starts: the underlying statistics suggest he's due an upturn in form. Are you going with the reverse pick?

Punt Pick: Raul Jimenez vs Cardiff (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 21/20 Jimenez has cemented his place as the best budget striker for the season, with 10 goals and 7 assists so far. He has 2 goals in his last 4 games, with a home fixture against struggling Cardiff set to yield even more points. Cardiff have just 1 clean sheet in 5, conceding 9 goals during that spell. Will you take a punt on the Wolves front man?

Park the Bus Pick: Matt Doherty vs Cardiff (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 18/5 Clean Sheet Odds: 17/20 Wolves may be struggling to keep a clean sheet recently, regularly conceding late in the game, but Doherty still has 2 assists in his last 4 games. Wolves have conceded just 4 goals in their last 4 games, with 4 of their 6 clean sheets coming at home. Meanwhile, Cardiff have scored 5 goals in their last 4 games. Are you brave enough to captain a defender?

Clueless Husband Pick: Victor Lindelof vs Southampton (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 14/1 Clean Sheet Odds: Evens A baby and a noisy bird in the loft have caused many sleepless nights for my Clueless Husband and the resident Lynn in the Loft is selected as his Gameweek 29 captain pick! Victor Lindelof has 1 goal, 1 assist and 2 clean sheets from his last 4 starts: the Manchester United defence have really turned things around recently. Will you side with my Clueless Husband?
