Welcome to the latest article in a new series for the 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League season from @FPL_Heisenberg for FPL Bet. In this weekly series, Heisenberg will be looking into the best captaincy options, as well as ‘outside of the box' captaincy choices for each Gameweek. Heisenberg has a proven track record in FPL, having finished inside the top 32k in each of the last 6 seasons, including a best finish of 836th. Let's cook!
Gameweek 34 Captains:
Kelechi Iheanacho (Fixture: Southampton, Away)
One of the standout captain picks in Gameweek 34 is the £6.2m Leicester forward Iheanacho. What an unbelievable run of form he's currently on, backing that up on Monday Night Football with a goal and an assist vs Crystal Palace.
If he can pick up where he left off in the last few games, then Iheanacho could be in for another productive game away at Southampton. A tasty fixture for Rodgers' Leicester against a shaky Southampton side is a perfect fixture for the Nigerian to score well in.
It is important to note that the upturn in Iheanacho's goalscoring form has coincided with a strong run in the team along with becoming the main man in terms of goalscoring as Jamie Vardy turns provider.
The two of them have linked up well in recent weeks so don't be surprised to see them assist each other in Gameweek 34.
Harry Kane (Fixture: Sheffield United, Home)
Harry Kane at home to the team bottom of the league, seems too good a chance to miss for many. It's very likely his effective ownership will be through the roof in Gameweek 34.
Kane has been a goal threat for many years in the Premier League, but his assist threat is something he's added to his game. His passing ability has always been exceptional, but tactically he was more the man to get on the end of passes, now he's creating chances for his teammates too. The stats show how much better he's become creatively and he now has the most FPL assists of any player which is outstanding.
Spurs should benefit as a team offensively with Son and Kane both returning from recent injuries, coupled with Ryan Mason favouring Gareth Bale more than his predecessor did. Therefore I see Kane's assist potential as increasing with Sonny and Bale on the pitch to finish off the chances he creates. Son and Bale can also create for Harry Kane too. Another consideration is penalties and as we know, Kane rarely misses so there's another route to points for England's number 9.
If you're playing catch up in your mini-leagues then maybe you fancy putting the armband on his teammate, the South Korean international Son who's also a good choice this Gameweek as Spurs face bottom of the table Sheffield United.
Heung-Min Son (Fixture: Sheffield United, Home)
Heung-Min Son is another fantastic captaincy option, and as mentioned above, especially if you're playing catch up to a mini league rival or hoping to make gains in the overall rank. You'd be betting on Son outscoring Kane - which is possible but I don't think it'll happen personally.
I won't dwell on Son too much here, he has returned to the team with a goal vs Man United and a goal vs Southampton too. He's a lethal finisher and he only needs one chance to finish. He also gets an extra point for the goal and a clean sheet point as he's a midfielder which might help him outscore Kane this week.
‘Outside of the Box' captains:
Matheus Pereira (Fixture: Wolves, Home)
One of my differential captain picks in Gameweek 34 is the £5.5m West Brom midfielder Matheus Pereira. Currently sitting at under 6% ownership at the time of writing � he will be a huge captain differential, with your mini-league rivals likely to captain one of the premium assets such as Harry Kane.
A decent enough fixture vs a Wolves side who just got drubbed by Chris Wood's Burnley, and if Wolves defend like we know they sometimes do, conceding a lot of chances, then Pereira could well be in the points this week.
Making a player from West Brom your captain is not something that a boring player like myself would ever do, but if you like taking risks and you're playing catch up then Pereira could be your man. Like I mentioned, if you're playing catch up this week then maybe now is the time to take a punt.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Fixture: Aston Villa, Home)
After a great start to the season, Dominic Calvert-Lewin went off the radar following some blanks and then an injury. He returned with a bang against Leeds and Man United then picked up a knock. Since then, his form (and injury issues) have been an problem and his output in terms of FPL returns has been poor. However, I'm backing him to bounce back in Gameweek 34.
In terms of the underlying statistics at the start of the season, he was top for non-penalty expected goals for all players in the league. He was getting himself into the positions where he's most likely to score goals, in the central areas of the penalty area, with most of his goals being one touch finishes � something he and Ancelotti have been working hard on.
His output suffered recently when Lucas Digne, Richarlison and James Rodriguez all missed games through injury. With those players now back in the game along with the ever creative Sigurdsson supplying chances to Calvert-Lewin he should have an increased chance to score goals.
Everton have a decent fixture at home to Aston Villa who have been much leakier in recent Gameweeks.
