Share post on:
Welcome back to another Fantasy Premier League Captain Tips for Gameweek 37 article. This week jamieFPL analyses the best candidates for your captain's armband. This article will compare the last four Premier League performances of Jermain Defoe, Dimitri Payet, Eden Hazard, Troy Deeney and Anthony Martial. . We are going to look at recent form, opposition difficulty and the bookies odds to reach a verdict on which player is the most rounded captaincy choice for Gameweek 37.

Recent Form:

# Player PPG G+A
1 Hazard 8.00 3+1
2  Defoe 4.50  2+0
3 Payet 3.75  0+2
3 Deeney 3.75  2+0
4 Martial 3.50  1+0
Eden Hazard's season has been a polar opposition to his last, but at least he's found the back of the net even if it did take him until Gameweek 35. With three goals in his last two matches, including his title deciding goal against rivals Spurs, he finds himself top of the recent form table. Jermain Defoe will be called upon again this gameweek as Sunderland look to utilise their game in hand and leapfrog their rivals out of the relegation zone. His stoppage time penalty was enough to rescue a point for the Black Cats last weekend. Dimitri Payet will be a popular option as West Ham have back-to-back home games and are still in with a chance of a top four finish. Elsewhere, Deeney netted two last week against Villa and Martial found the opener against Leicester throwing them onto the shortlist of potential DGW strikers.

Opposition Difficulty:

# Player Vs. GC
1 Defoe  CHE, EVE 7+6
1 Deeney liv, nor 6+7
1 Martial nor, whu  7+6
2 Payet SWA, MUN  8+4
3 Hazard sun, liv  3+6
There's not much in it when it comes to form this week with just one goal separating the top four contenders. Jermain Defoe has the home advantage and the pressure to perform as the Black Cat's host Chelsea and Everton in the space of four days. Troy Deeney has little left to play for this season as Watford have already secured a solid mid-table finish. Anthony Martial and Man United will be looking to make their games in hand count with fourth place still a possibility. Swansea have already stated they'll be playing a ‘reserve' side against West Ham, which could provide Dimitri Payet with a substantial amount of points before their crunch match against Man United. Eden Hazard has the toughest test as he faces Sunderland and Liverpool, who combined have only conceded an average of 1.1 goals from each of their last four.

Bookies Odds:

# Player Odds IC%
1 Defoe 2.20 45.45%
2 Payet 2.45  40.82%
3 Martial 2.90 34.48%
4 Deeney 3.10 32.26%
5 Hazard 3.60 27.78%
The bookies favourite this gameweek is Sunderland's Jermain Defoe who will be fighting for Premier League survival. He's scored 37% of Sunderland's goals this season and is their designated penalty taker. Dimitri Payet comes in at second place despite failing to make the score sheet in his last four consecutive league matches. West Ham have it all to play for this gameweek and back-to-back victories could round off their excellent campaign with European football. Elsewhere, Martial, Deeney and Hazard all have a fairly poor implied chance of scoring, especially Hazard who has an implied chance of a mere 27.78%.

Who To Captain In Gameweek 36:

# Player Form Fixture Odds Total
1 Defoe 2 1 1 4
2 Payet 3 2 2 7
3 Martial 4 1 3 8
3 Deeney 3 1 4 8
5 Hazard 1 3 5 9
Jermain Defoe is the most rounded captaincy option for Gameweek 37 when Sunderland host both Chelsea and Everton. He has the best fixtures, the bookies backing and his goal last weekend propelled him to second in our form table. Dimitri Payet comes in at second place after narrowly falling behind Jermain Defoe in all three categories. The midfielder has it all to play for at the other end of the table and successive wins could round of West Ham's excellent season with European football. Anthony Martial comes in at third place ahead of Man United's two away trips to Norwich and West Ham. A win from their game in hand would put them just one point behind rivals Man City in the race for Champions League football, so there's everything to play for here. Troy Deeney places joint third thanks to his late double last week against Aston Villa. This gameweek he faces Liverpool and Norwich, but with little left to play for, it'll be hard trusting him with your armband. Finally, Eden Hazard - despite his explosive recent form - places narrowly behind in fifth, but remember: form over fixtures.
