GW19 Stats - The Top Ten

Premier League GW19 Starts Saturday 16th January 2021

We've reached the halfway point of what can only be described as a rather crazy season and with a double gameweek on the horizon, this has the potential to really throw the cat amongst the proverbial pigeons.

Because this is a week where the option of short-termism might just come back to haunt you and the reason is simple, a reason that is steeped in the curtailed round of fixtures that have just been completed.

If you already played your free-hit because of earlier COVID-19 concerns or the fact that your team was an absolute nightmare, then you may have had no other option than to go wild in the aisles in midweek.

However, if you've only really covered your wildcard for a big score in gameweek 18, then you may well have neglected the fact that you may need to stock up on players who will offer more in the way of double bubble this weekend.

Then again, just because players take to the field twice in several days, is no guarantee for points either and when it comes to the guarantee of points, there is no better list than the current top 10 players in the world of FPL.

With several teams being inactive over the past few days, there might not be the biggest amount of moving or shaking in the top 10. Then again, when you look how tight it is at the summit, a titanic tussle is beginning to shape up.

While although Hueng min-Son had several chances to slot home against Fulham, he failed to take any of them and because of this, the South Korean only gained an additional two FPL points for his trouble.

Of course, fortunes fared slightly better for teammate Harry Kane and although his diving header does not gain extra points for artistic merit, that finish has seen him leapfrog Bruno Fernandes into second place.

Not only that, but the two Tottenham forwards have just a point between them and that is the same numerical distance between Kane in second and Fernandes in third, who himself only managed two points for his midweek troubles.

Inactivity is certainly the word, as far as those from fourth to eighth are concerned and although everyone from Mohamed Salah to Jack Grealish had to sit out due to fixture scheduling, Dominic Calvert Lewin's absence may be longer due to a hamstring injury.

There's no change in ninth place, as Wilfried Zaha was a part of a Crystal Palace team who frustrated Arsenal and rounding out the top 10, is a man who has been frustrating Boris Johnson as of late, that man of course is Marcus Rashford.

In terms of the highest scoring defender at present, that accolade is once again earned by Andy Robertson of Liverpool, as he has accrued a total of 80 points. However, there's a new second place name in the defender table and Jan Bednarek of Southampton, is now just a point behind the Scottish international.

While looking at the ‘keeper category, it was once again Emiliano Martinez who is top of the shop and even though Aston Villa were inactive after a COVID-19 outbreak, the Argentine still has enough of a points buffer to keep the likes of Nick Pope and Hugo Lloris at bay.

Did You Know?

Liverpool are undefeated in their last 46 home matches (Premier League). Could this finally be the weekend in which their magical run comes to and end?

Especially when you consider that Man Utd have won 11 of their last 12 away matches (Premier League).

Fulham have drawn their last 5 matches (Premier League). It is fair to say that the Cottagers are becoming a tough nut to crack, but they cannot simply draw their way to safety, or can they?

Mohamed Salah may be the current league top scorer with 13 goals, but in percentage terms Heung-min Son has made the biggest contribution to his team's current goal output. 12 goals this season, equates to 40% of Tottenham's overall tally.
