Under the Radar Stealth Picks for FPL Gameweek 28

Share post on:
Welcome to Under the Radar for this Week's Run of Midweek Games - FPL GW28.

Matt Ryan

4.4m Brighton and Hove Albion Leicester (A), Huddersfield (H), Crystal Palace (A) 2.9% TSB 3.2 Points per game Ryan is an intriguing choice moving forward, with Brighton set for potentially 3 double gameweek slots in between now and the end of the season (10 gameweeks). With a series of blanks to be played (1 already in GW27), as long as you have another keeper who is set to play in all gameweeks, like Allison, Fabianski or Boruc, Ryan can slot in and out of your starting XI. Brighton have had an indifferent season but will fall back upon their solidity as a defensive unit, especially at home, to secure their place in the Premier League for next season. The current stats are not great however, with Brighton conceding the most big chances over the previous 6 gameweeks with games against Manchester United and Liverpool in this time. Brighton have potential double gameweek fixtures of Cardiff, Chelsea and Tottenham to come and interestingly the Seagulls play Huddersfield next weekend, which could give new owners a good chance of accruing 6 immediate points.

James Tarkowski

4.7m Burnley Newcastle (a), Crystal Palace (H), Liverpool (a) 4.3% TSB 3.0 Points per game Burney have really turned it round recently, and Sean Dyche can only be commended for sticking to his style and having it turn things around for what the team had got themselves into in the first half of the season. Over the last 6 gameweeks their defence have put in a notable improvement in underlying statistics. What is interesting is that during this period Burnley have also come up against attacking teams such as Tottenham and Manchester United but have provided the joint 4th best stats in terms of big chances conceded (Only 9 in 6 games). With this in mind, and Burnley's mixed run of fixtures coming up it is important to note that Burnley have not got a blank or double gameweek all season and should play manager-less Leicester and Bournemouth in the two blank gameweeks (GW31 and GW33) so a Burnley defensive asset is well placed for a squad role in your team. There are a few choices at the back for Burnley but Tarkowski's goal contributions earlier in the season and his reliability and place in the extended England squad all alongside his good price tag (Aaron Wan-Bissaka trade possible) makes him my pick out for the next run of games. As a bonus, it is important to note the form and continued inclusion of 4.4m asset Dwight McNeil. In his breakout season and with the injuries to the likes of Brady and Lennon (although the former is returning), his low price, consistent fixtures and gradual point returns make him one to keep your eye on if he keeps his place ahead of the blank gameweeks.

Miguel Almiron

6.0m Newcastle United Burnley (H), West Ham (a), Everton (H) 0.5% Tsb 2.0 Points per game (1 and ½ games played) On his full debut the Paraguayan put in a good performance against a lacklustre Huddersfield side. He hit the post amongst a host of chances and creative opportunities as Newcastle eased to victory. His signing has been key to an increase in optimism amongst the Newcastle faithful and this, again coupled by their lack of a blank in GW31 and GW33 (As long as Crystal Palace lose to Watford in the FA Cup). There isn't a huge amount of applicable data to hand for Almiron, however, as a watcher of MLS, he alongside Martinez and young Barco were brilliant for the newly formed club, collectively leading them to glory. If you are going for a strategy where you are going to Free Hit in DGW32; Newcastle assets, with good fixtures in 31 and 33 (Bournemouth and provisionally Crystal Palace), could be a great shout and alongside a defender and Rondon Almiron could be a gem waiting to be found.
