Gameweek 9 Captain Tips

Share post on:
FPLHolly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for GW9. Her clueless husband is back with a political inspired pick to go with the usual selections. Harry Kane finally ousted Romelu Lukaku from the top spot of most captained but both promptly disappointed the combined almost 3 million managers who captained them. Anyone who plumped for a city attacker wasn't disappointed. Here's my picks for Gameweek 9!

Shield Pick: Romelu Lukaku vs Huddersfield (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 8/11 Lukaku had a frustrating game against Liverpool, with just one shot on target, but Huddersfield are an entirely different animal. Romelu's consistency is undeniable, with 7 goals in 8 appearances and just one blank away from home. This week he's up against a Huddersfield side who allowed Spurs to score 4 past them at home. I expect Lukaku to be the most captained player again this week and he won't let you down if you trust him with the armband.

Sword Pick: Harry Kane vs Liverpool (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 5/6 Harry has failed to shake off the Wembley factor but this week will be the week. His underlying statistics are still leading, with 50 shots including 19 on target and Liverpool have already conceded 11 goals away from home in 4 games. Kane is on penalties, he has 6 goals in 8 games: the curse can't last all season! Will he get the armband?

Form Pick: Raheem Sterling vs Burnley (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 11/10 There's no shaking Sterling from the top of the form charts. Those of you who went with him as form pick last week wouldn't have been disappointed, he led the dream team with 15 points. Manchester City look unstoppable, with incredible performances at the Etihad. Sterling has 6 goals and 2 assists, the best total of all FPL midfielders by some margin. City are averaging 4 goals per game when Sterling starts, so it's promising for his gametime security. Let the form continue!

Fixture Pick: Sergio Aguero vs Burnley (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 4/9 City have scored 29 goals so far this season, 8 more than any other side, so it has to be their fixture we look to for captaincy contenders. Aguero is back after that rib injury and is ready to lead the line in the leagues most potent attack. He's the City penalty taker too and is just one away from equalling the all time goalscoring record. Sergio has 6 goals and 3 assists from 6 appearances and 3 in 3 against Burnley. He was on the bench in the Champions League which indicates that he's due some minutes at the weekend. He's a serious contender for the armband.

Punt Pick: Wilfried Zaha vs Newcastle (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 5/2 Crystal Palace have finally scored in the league and got their first win last week against the Champions. This all coincided with a return to fitness for Zaha, who is currently playing out of position, up top. Now that he's off the mark, he will go from strength to strength and demonstrate why he was in so many gameweek 1 squads. Is it time to take a punt?

Park the Bus Pick: Antonio Valencia vs Huddersfield (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 17/2 Clean Sheet Odds: 4/6 Jose provided another defensive masterclass at Anfield last week and now United have 7 clean sheets from 8 matches. That's an incredible record and now this week they face a Huddersfield side with just 5 goals so far and missing their top goalscorer Steve Mounie. Valencia is the most atttacking of the united backline, has a goal already and it's only a matter of time until he adds assists to his game too. Will you be brave enough to captain the leading FPL defender this week?

Clueless Husband Pick : Tammy Abraham vs Leicester (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 13/8 Whilst most of the picks blanked last week, my ever dependable husband came up with another brilliant captain pick. This week he has plumped for "ABRAHAM LINCOLN!" He brought in the former US-president ahead of his brace last week against Huddersfield. His reasoning was that "he's named after my home county of Lincolnshire". I expect Tammy to be high on confidence and looking to exploit a Leicester side who have lost their manager this week. He's currently ranked inside the top 100k. Are you brave enough to go with my husband's pick this week? Until Next Week… Good Luck! Holly. Follow Holly for more FPL insight...
