Gameweek 19 Captain Tips

fplhollyFPLHolly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for Gameweek 19. It's almost Christmas, which means there's plenty of Fantasy Premier League action to keep up with. I'll have you covered throughout the festive period. My Clueless Husband returns with a festive inspired selection this week. Read on for more. Gameweek 18 was an eventful one, where many of my picks returned. It proved correct to discount Kane, and the same occurs this time around since he faces a Burnley side that are difficult to break down. Salah remains a consistent returner, and the popularity of Lukaku is gathering momentum once more. The Gameweek 19 captain decision appears to be wide open, since Kane is failing to impress, Liverpool face Arsenal away and Manchester City assets pose a constant risk. To add to the problem, rotation looks imminent for the sides involved in the EFL Cup this midweek, Manchester City and Leicester have already faced extra time and penalties. Here's my selections.

Shield Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Arsenal (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 13/10 The fixture looks difficult on paper. However, Salah has proven himself to be fixture proof this season, with goals against Spurs and Chelsea. If you cast your mind back to Gameweek 3, Salah got a goal and an assist in the corresponding home fixture against the Gunners. While Arsenal have been busy in the EFL Cup, Liverpool have been preparing for this game and so should be much fresher for the Friday Night Football. Salah is the highest owned player in the game and will remain one of the most popular captaincy contenders. With just one blank in his last 9, will he get your armband?

Sword Pick: Eden Hazard vs Everton (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 23/20 Everton may have improved their game in recent weeks, but they are still conceding goals and look highly unlikely to achieve a shut out against this Chelsea side. Hazard is on penalties and will be boosted by the return of Alvaro Morata. Eden should move back into the number 10 position, where he is much more consistent in returning. Keep an eye on his EFL cup minutes on Wednesday. Are you going to captain Hazard in hope of moving up the rankings?

Form Pick: Wayne Rooney vs Chelsea (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 12/5 Shockingly, Wayne Rooney has the best form of all the players in FPL (I couldn't believe it either!) Is it 2012? In the last 5 games, he has got 6 goals and 3 assists. Now it's true that penalty duties have helped add to those totals, but Everton seem to keep winning them. Now the opponent looks tough, but Chelsea aren't consistent at keeping clean sheets and Wayne seems to be resurgent under Big Sam. Will you go with the form pick?

Fixture Pick: Kevin De Bruyne vs Bournemouth (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 5/4 Manchester City have the easiest fixture of the top sides this time out. It's always difficult to give the armband to a City player due to rotation, but De Bruyne has started every league game and was given the night off during their EFL match on Tuesday. He has the second highest FPL points total and has achieved 3 goals and 2 assists over the last 5. Bournemouth haven't won in their last 4, and face an uphill battle at the Etihad. Are you selecting the fixture pick?

Punt Pick: Wilfried Zaha vs Swansea (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 2/1 Zaha has returned in his last two games and faces an easy game against bottom of the league Swansea. Benteke is suspended for this one, so Zaha should play in a more advanced role which suits his style. Crystal Palace are finally on an upwards trajectory, under Roy Hodgson. Should you take the punt for Gameweek 19?

Park the Bus Pick: Nicholas Otamendi vs Bournemouth (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 19/5 Clean Sheet Odds: 3/4 Clean sheets have been few and far between for Manchester City over the last few weeks, but surely this is their opportunity. Otamendi has the best attacking record of defenders this season, with 4 goals already. He was rested in the EFL Cup too and his place looks secure with Kompany and Stones injured. Are you brave enough to captain a defender?

Clueless Husband Pick: Paul Pogba vs Leicester (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 12/5 The clueless knowledge reached a new low last week, despite the selection coming in. This week, my Clueless Husband has been busy compiling his annual Christmas picture quiz, cutting up various pages of the Radio Times. He doesn't like to put too many football players in, as it would make things too easy for me, but Pogba made the cut and is his armband selection this time around.
