Gameweek 14 Captain Tips

Share post on:

FPLHolly is back with her selection of captain picks for GW14. It's a quick turnaround for the midweek games with the deadline on Tuesday at 18:45, don't miss it! Her clueless husband is back with yet another hilarious pick!

Well Gameweek 13 was a huge contrast to Gameweek 12... there were certainly less goals to be seen. The sword, form and Clueless Husband selections returned last week despite the steady gameweek. A strong captaincy return should have bolstered your overall rank and positioning in mini leagues. Here's my selections for Gameweek 14. With a congested fixture schedule, particularly with the top teams, it's important to select a guaranteed starter and a strong vice captain.

Shield Pick: Romelu Lukaku vs Watford (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 21/20

Lukaku won the head to head with Kane last week to be the most captained, but failed to hit the target, in a tight game against Brighton. Despite a good start to the season, Watford have the worst defence of teams in the top half of the league, having conceded 21 goals already. Romelu has 2 goals and 1 assist in 4 appearances against Watford. There's a couple of caveats here: Lukaku could be rotated now that Ibrahimovic is fit and Watford have back to back clean sheets. Will you keep the faith?

Sword Pick: Harry Kane vs Leicester (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 5/6

After a tumultuous month, Kane finally repaid his owners with a goal against West Brom: his captainers had to be patient though! This week Spurs travel to the King Power Stadium and Kane should be a sure starter in a tricky game. His away form has been electric this year and Claude Puel has failed to tighten the foxes back line to date. Harry had a brief loan spell at Leicester back in 2013: he has 10 goals and 2 assists in 9 appearances against his former side. Will he get your armband this week?

Form Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Stoke (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 11/10

Wow, Mo Salah, or salad if you're my clueless husband, has taken FPL by storm. He's the top scorer in the Premier League and in FPL, plus he's returned in all of his last 5 games. Klopp has started to rotate his squad in this busy period with Firmino and Mane on the bench against Chelsea. Perhaps Salah will be undroppable, or a source of points from the bench, but there is a certain element of risk here. Are you going with the form pick?

Fixture Pick: Eden Hazard vs Swansea (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 4/5

Mo Salah might be stealing the headlines, but Hazard isn't far behind. He's certainly passing the eye test, and even though he only got an assist against Liverpool, he took all three bonus points and ended on a total of 8. That means he's on 3 goals and 2 assists in the last 4, and he has an easy fixture coming up as the Swans visit Stamford Bridge. He's a slight rotation risk after starting all 3 games since the break, including the full 90 at Anfield. Will you be backing blue this week?

Punt Pick: Pascal Groß vs Crystal Palace (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 5/2

Pascal is the standout budget pick so far this season, providing excellent consistency, including 8 returns so far. He blanked against Manchester United but managed to collect all 3 bonus points to achieve a modest 5 point total. He's returned in his last 3 home games and there ought to be a repeat of those performances with bottom of the league Palace visiting the Amex Stadium. Are you taking a risk on this cut price selection?

Park the Bus Pick: Shkodran Mustafi vs Huddersfield (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 13/2
Clean Sheet Odds: 3/4

The Arsenal defence have been imperious at home this season, with 4 clean sheets in 6 games, and Huddersfield are hardly known for their attacking prowess, with only 8 goals to date. Mustafi is always a threat from set pieces and should be among the bonus points if a shut out is delivered. Will you take a gamble and captain a defender this week?

Clueless Husband Pick: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain vs Stoke (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 7/2

So, I have to admit, I do sometimes have to screen my husband's captain choices depending on whether their even a vague option. He's been tipping ‘The Ox' for weeks, but I've made him go for an alternative since Ox couldn't get a start. Anyway, after a start against Chelsea and an assist, he's finally been allowed this week. Now Oxlade-Chamberlain isn't the most high profile player in the Premier League, but he's on my husband's radar because ‘he's with Perrie from Little Mix'. It turns out he's a big fan of the girl band and according to Daily Mail, their relationship has been on the rocks since he's located up north. Will you follow my Clueless Husband this week?

Until Next Week…
Good Luck!

Holly.
