Gameweek 14 Captain Picks

Share post on:
FPL Holly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for Gameweek 14. Managers will be spoilt for choice, as premium players have home comforts and favourable fixtures this weekend. Meanwhile, the Clueless Husband is underprepared for the festive schedule. Gameweek 13 was certainly one to forget. As predicted, tough away fixtures played their part with our captaincy selections: just Salah and Sterling returned for us last week. On a personal level, my run of consecutive captain returns came to an abrupt end, thanks to Sergio Aguero and there's a headache on the cards for this week. To add to the confusion, there's crucial midweek Champions League and Europa League fixtures, as well as Leicester v Southampton in the EFL Cup. Once more, it's important to keep an eye on injury news and minutes played as the busy rotation prone phase of the season starts: there's also a midweek round of FPL fixtures next week too!

Shield Pick: Sergio Aguero vs Bournemouth (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 4/9 It's a nice fixture for Aguero this weekend, as he's back on home soil against a Bournemouth defence conceding a couple of goals per game in recent weeks. Aguero got two goals and an assist in this fixture last season, where City managed a convincing 4-0 win. He's likely to be the most captained again this week given his ownership and should also be on penalties. Rotation is a worry here, especially with Jesus missing the midweek Champions League game, but he has started every game this season. Aguero has 7 goals and 6 assists at home this season, returning in every single game, so he looks to be a safe selection for Gameweek 14. Will you opt for the shield pick?

Sword Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Everton (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 4/5 Salah has started to provide some consistency in recent weeks, with just one blank in his last 5 games, accumulating 4 goals and 2 assists in that time. He has just one blank at home this season, against Manchester City, with 5 goals and 2 assists. The Merseyside derby is normally a fiery affair, it finished 1-1 last season with Salah getting himself on the scoresheet. Will the sword pick chip in with yet another goal this weekend?

Form Pick: Raheem Sterling vs Bournemouth (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 7/10 The differential is no longer a differential: Sterling is in phenomenal form with 3 goals and 5 assists in his last 4 games. With City putting in some convincing performances in recently, there's plenty of goals expected again this weekend and Sterling should be contributing to many of them. The leading FPL points scorer should be well backed this weekend by his owners and could provide a differential over those who own Aguero. In 3 home games against the Cherries, Sterling has 5 goals and 2 assists: in fact, he's scored in every single Premier League game against them! Does that give you the confidence to go for the form pick?

Fulham Pick: Eden Hazard vs Fulham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 8/13 Hazard's form has been lacking in recent weeks, with a dismal performance against Spurs meaning many are looking elsewhere for premium midfielders. The inclination to give him one more week or even give him the armband against a fragile Fulham is tempting: he has 7 goals and 4 assists this season, with 5 goals and 2 assists coming at home. He also has penalties and even though Fulham look rejuvenated under Ranieri, a goal shy Southampton managed to score two past them. Will you go with the fixture pick?

Punt Pick: Raul Jimenez vs Cardiff (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 17/10 With a Friday night deadline (don't miss it!), Jimenez could be a captaincy differential in the Friday Night Football, as he faces a Cardiff side without a clean sheet in 10, conceding 26 goals this season. Jimenez may will be on penalties and comes into this one with decent form: he has a goal and two assists in his last 3 games, and was denied on the line last weekend. More points returns could be just around the corner. Are you going to take a punt?

Park the Bus Pick: Marcos Alonso vs Fulham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 27/10 Clean Sheet Odds: 3/4 The games leading defender disappointed with just 1 point last weekend, but many will be hoping for bigger and better things this time out. There's potential for points all over the pitch, Alonso has 1 goal, 7 assists and 6 clean sheets this season. With just 4 blanks this season, I'd anticipate at least 6 points this weekend. Fulham had failed to score in 3 games prior to last weekend and Alonso possesses the greatest attacking threat of all fantasy defenders. Will you be brave enough to captain a defender.

Clueless Husband Pick: Alexsandar Mitrovic vs Chelsea (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 13/5 On an opposite tact, my Clueless Husband is tipping Mitrovic this weekend, following his brace and 13 point haul against Southampton. He now has 7 goals and 2 assists this season, only Aubameyang and Aguero have more goals. Unlocking this Chelsea defence will be a challenge, but Mitro could go from strength to strength with the arrival of a new managers. Are you going to side with my Clueless Husband?
