Gameweek 13 Captain Picks

FPL Holly is back from the International Break with her selection of captain picks for Gameweek 13. With Aguero, Salah and Hazard all facing away games this weekend, the captaincy debate has been blown wide open. The Clueless Husband returns but offers no insight into his decision making. Gameweek 12 didn't quite delivery the massive captain hauls promised by the Liverpool home fixture to Fulham, but Salah and Aguero remained solid options and that trend is set to continue this week. I've personally had 12 captain returns in a row, but face Gameweek 13 with plenty of trepidation. Other than a Hazard away haul to Southampton, I've been firmly on the Aguero and Salah home rotation, but this week that strategy has been blown out of the water. Both still offer plenty, despite being on the road, but it could open things up to a differential for once. Will 13 prove unlucky?

Shield Pick: Sergio Aguero vs West Ham (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 6/10 Aguero has the biggest ownership in the game and should be the most captained going into Gameweek 13. He will be fresh after playing no part in the International Break and has penalties to further boost his appeal. City are the best attack in the league, whereas West Ham have conceded plenty of big chances. The downside is that Aguero has just one return away from home this season, a solitary goal against Cardiff. West Ham have just one clean sheet this season, but that came in a home game against Chelsea. With Champions League qualification almost wrapped up for City, Aguero should see plenty of minutes in this game. He has an excellent record against the Hammers, with 8 goals and 4 assists in 13 games. City's results at the London Stadium have been phenomenal, with 0-4 and 1-4 thrashing's in recent seasons. If you've a good rank to protect and want to play safe, Aguero makes the ideal shield pick in Gameweek 13 - this is where my armband is likely to be going! Sword Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Watford (A) Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 5/6 Salah has finally found some consistency in the Premier League this season, with 3 goals and 2 assists in his last 4. Egypt had an early finish to the International Break, with Salah getting a goal before heading off to Dubai for a holiday. He has 1 goal and 2 assists away from home this season. Watford have been a little inconsistent this season, managing 3 clean sheets, with 2 of those coming at home. Liverpool have a crucial Champions League tie coming up next midweek against PSG, although they do have an extra rest day with that fixture being played on Wednesday. Salah's record against Watford is impressive, with 5 goals and 2 assists last season, including that 29 point haul at home in Gameweek 31. Could that fact be enough to tempt you into a more attacking sword pick? It's made me sit up and take note!

Form Pick: Anthony Martial vs Crystal Palace (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 5/4 Martial has caused plenty of discussion in the community this week, with a yellow flag and word of over-performance. 6 goals and 1 assist in the last 5 games means he cannot be ignored, he's certainly worthy of the form pick and he's back in training. The fixture is promising, with a home game against a Crystal Palace side that have conceded 2 goals a game on average in recent weeks. Are you going with the form pick?

Fixture Pick: Richarlison vs Cardiff (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 11/10 Out-of-position Richarlison, also has an excellent fixture at home to Cardiff. He scored a brace in his last home game and Cardiff are known for their defensive frailties: they've conceded 9 goals over their last 3 away games. With Sigurdsson potentially still out with an injury, there's a chance that Richarlison could be on penalties this weekend too. Will you be bold and go with Everton's front man?

Punt Pick: Raheem Sterling vs West Ham (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: Evens While Aguero may be turning plenty of heads, managers who own this Manchester City midfielder over his attacking counterpart, may be inclined to give Sterling the armband this weekend. It's a decent fixture and Sterling's form is unquestionable, he has 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 3 games. He also has an excellent record against the Hammers, with 4 goals and 7 assists in 11 appearances, including a hat trick of assists in this fixture last season. The only question is will he start?

Park the Bus Pick: Matt Doherty vs Huddersfield (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 4/1 Clean Sheet Odds: 13/20 Matt Doherty is the full back winning our affections this weekend for the captaincy. Wolves have one of the best defensive records in the league, meanwhile Huddersfield are the worst attack, having only scored 6 goals this season. Doherty has 1 goal and 2 assists this season and is arguably unlucky to have not delivered further attacking returns from the wing back position. Are you brave enough to captain a defender?

Clueless Husband Pick: Eden Hazard vs Spurs (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 6/4 The Clueless Husband is opting for Hazard this week but has failed to deliver any reasoning why. I'd overlooked the Chelsea attacker this week given the fixture, but he has managed 2 goals and 2 assists at home this season. He's on penalties and does have a reasonable record in this London derby: he has 5 goals and 3 assists in 13 appearances. Will you side with my Clueless Husband? Until Next Week… Good Luck!
