Gameweek 12 Captain Tips

Share post on:
FPLHolly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for GW12. Her Clueless Husband is also back with an appropriately themed selection for his ‘No Sugar November' diet plan. Gameweek 11 seems like a long time ago, just enough time to recover from that Kane blank. Why does he always blank when he looks like the best option? Lukaku didn't do much better but my Fixture, Punt and Park the Bus Picks all came in. Top marks to those who went with the fixture pick and gave Salah the armband! Here's my Gameweek 12 selections.

Shield Pick: Romelu Lukaku vs Newcastle (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 8/11 Despite a pair of tricky fixtures, Romelu Lukaku has still been a popular captain pick over the last couple of weeks. With Kane blanking and facing Arsenal away, Romelu will be the highest captained yet again this week with a seemingly easy fixture at home to promoted Newcastle. He's had a dry spell but his home form remains strong: he's got 4 goals and 2 assists in 5 Old Trafford matches. The only blank was that penalty miss against Leicester in Gameweek 3. He's back in the groove with a brace during the International Break and he's got a decent record against Newcastle: 5 goals and 4 assists in 8 appearances. His upturn in form nicely coincides with Pogba's return to fitness. If you've got a strong rank, give Lukaku the armband this week.

Sword Pick: Harry Kane vs Arsenal (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 21/20 Harry Kane should be well rested after having the International Break off. This week he's got a trickier Fixture away at the Emirates, but historically he has an excellent record against the Gunners with 6 goals in 6 appearances. He's also much better away from Wembley, having scored 6 in the 4 away games this season. Harry is the joint top scorer in the Premier League and is on penalties. He's coming up against an Arsenal side who've not kept a clean sheet in their last 4, shipping 8 goals. Let the stats do the talking and give Harry the armband!

Form Pick: Aaron Ramsey vs Tottenham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 14/5 I was a little taken aback when I saw that Rambo has the best form of any attacking player in FPL. He's been pretty consistent in recent weeks with 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 3, which conveniently coincided with me shipping him out. It's not the most straightforward of fixtures but Spurs have a number of defensive issues with Lloris, Vorm, Alderweireld and Vertonghen all flagged at present. He's certainly got the ability to return and is ranked 8th for Shots on Target this season, with 13. Are you going with the form pick?

Fixture Pick: Sergio Aguero vs Leicester (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 8/13 Manchester City are in fantastic form and Aguero is the top scorer in the Premier League alongside Kane. Interestingly, Pep rotation hasn't scuppered him since Gameweek 3 - he tends to start or be rested altogether. Since City have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League, Pep may play his strongest team in the league for the next few weeks. Aguero is on penalties and performs well away from home. He got a hat trick in his last away game against Watford. Claude Puel was expected to tighten up the Leicester defence, but they still conceded 2 to Stoke. If you're going to captain a City player, then Aguero is your best bet.

Punt Pick: Anthony Knockaert vs Stoke (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 10/3 It's Monday Night Football and Knockaert turns 26, so looks like an ideal punt for a late Gameweek captain. Stoke will be struggling defensively with Jack Butland injured once again. Anthony has a goal and an assist in his last 4 games and looks like he could rediscover the form that set the Championship alight last season. Will you take a punt on the birthday boy?

Park the Bus Pick: Eric Bailly vs Newcastle (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 11/1 Clean Sheet Odds: 8/13 Manchester United are the clean sheet kings of the Premier League with 8 to date and now the fixtures are turning favourable once again. Newcastle aren't the most attacking of teams, with no focal goal scoring threat - they've failed to score in their last 2 games. It looks like another routine clean sheet at Old Trafford. Surely they'll make it 6 shut outs in 6 games this week. Are you brave enough to captain a defender?

Clueless Husband Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Southampton (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 6/5 Those of you following the progress of my clueless husband will be pleased to hear that he's still within the top 250k, although I'm only 32 points behind him now. He's embarked on a self-invented ‘No Sugar November' diet before the Christmas binging so has returned back to Salad this week, with his good form. He's got 3 goals and an assist in his last 3 appearances and has only blanked once at Anfield. Will you follow suit and give Mo the armband? Until Next Week…
