Gameweek 12 Captain Picks

FPL Holly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for Gameweek 12. With the standout picks returning once more last time out, it's time to extend the run even further, with Liverpool assets featuring heavily with a plum home fixture against Fulham. The Clueless Husband pick looks for form once more. Any managers who plumped for Aguero or Sterling in Gameweek 11 were richly rewarded with double digit captain returns, in a dominant 6-1 win for City. It was slim pickings elsewhere though, where premium defenders and Salah faltered, with Hazard limited to an assist from the bench. It's another busy week preceding Gameweek 12, although the looming International Break following this one may mean that the rotation risk is reduced. Last seasons top six sides are all involved in Champions League and Europa League fixtures, so as always keep an eye on rests, injuries and early substitutions. Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea all have long away journeys, but don't play their Gameweek 12 fixture until Sunday.

Shield Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Fulham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 2/5 Gameweek 10 was all about Salah at home to Cardiff, and it paid dividends with 15 points. Surely a home game against Fulham can only improve on this? His home form is phenomenal, with 4 goals and 2 assists from 5 matches. Fulham are easily the worst team in the Premier League from a defensive perspective, with this attacking Liverpool side bound to return at least 3 goals in this game. Salah is the second choice penalty taker behind a rotation prone James Milner, which could further boost his returns. His ownership is behind Hazard and Aguero, but I fully expect him to be the most popular captain this weekend. The triple captain chip could even come into play here, if you aren't wanting to save it for a Double Gameweek. Are you going to play safe with the shield pick?

Sword Pick: Eden Hazard vs Everton (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 10/11 Eden Hazard looks to be the best captain pick outside of Liverpool players this weekend. He remains the highest points scorer in the game, despite only having 7 starts in 11 games. His home form is very good, with 5 goals and 2 assists in 6 games, with just the one blank. He has penalties too and should exploit an Everton defence that haven't managed a clean sheet on the road this season, conceding 2 goals a game regularly. Hazard got a brace in this fixture back in 16/17. Will you go for the attacking sword pick in Gameweek 12?

Form Pick: Anthony Martial vs Man City (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 3/1 Martial's form is incredible and becoming difficult to ignore, with 5 goals and 1 assist in his last 4 games. His underlying statistics have improved during this period, which suggests that these returns can be maintained, as long as he stays in favour with Mourinho. However, the Manchester Derby is going to be a tough fixture, conceding just 3 goals at the Etihad this season. Mourinho has an excellent track record in this fixture though, winning 3-2 last season and holding Pep to a 0-0 draw the season before. Anything can happen in a derby game, will you take a punt on the form pick?

Fulham Pick: Sadio Mane vs Fulham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 8/13 Those managers without Salah, will be rightly looking to Mane for the armband this weekend: those lucky enough to own both could have a big decision to make! Mane has 6 goals this season, including a brace at home to West Ham and Cardiff: surely he can deliver in this similarly plum fixture? His underlying statistics aren't as strong as Salah's, so if you have both I'd be more inclined to captain Salah, but Mane could be the differential as the Fulham pick!

Punt Pick: Georginio Wijnaldum vs Fulham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 12/5 Wijnaldum is celebrating his birthday this Sunday, and what better way of marking the event than scoring at Anfield? He has a goal and an assist this season, with 2 shots and 1 attempted assist across the last two games. He is a rotation risk, especially with Keita and Henderson back to full fitness, so it really is a punt! Are you brave enough to go with it?

Park the Bus Pick: Andrew Robertson vs Fulham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 9/1 Clean Sheet Odds: 8/11 Our fourth Fulham tip goes to Robertson, who has 4 clean sheets in 4 starts at Anfield this season. He also has 2 assists and 9 bonus points, so looks the key attacking threat from this Liverpool lineup. A clean sheet looks promising, Fulham have failed to score in games against Everton, Manchester City, Bournemouth, Huddersfield and Crystal Palace. Are you brave enough to captain a defender, in the hope of a clean sheet and attacking return?

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: Evens The Clueless Husband pick this week goes to Lacazette, following a goal in Gameweek 11, decent form and a good fixture at home to Wolves. Lacazette has 5 goals and 4 assists now, whereas Wolves have no clean sheet in their last 3 games, conceding 6 goals in this period. Will you side with my Clueless Husband?
