Game Week 25 Captain Picks

Share post on:
FPL Holly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for DOUBLE Gameweek 25. There's plenty of dilemmas to contend with and the potential for a chip to be deployed, since some players could get 180 minutes across two games. Should you play safe with a single gameweek asset? Can we trust Pep rotation to captain any City player? Are Everton players being overlooked? Is it time to deploy the Triple Captain Chip, with the two more valuable chips being saved for the bigger Double Gameweek's? It's a very tricky time for fantasy managers, looking at the Double Gameweek 25 captain conundrum.

Shield Pick: Mohammed Salah vs West Ham (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 3/4 Can a single gameweek asset with a prime fixture outscore a player with a potential of two games? Will it could easily happen if that asset is Mohammed Salah, and he will still be a very popular captain contender this week, despite the temptation of Manchester City players. He scored in the reverse fixture and, at the time of writing, has delivered double digit returns in every game against non top six opposition since the start of December! He's guaranteed to start and likely to see 90 minutes, plus he's on some set pieces including penalties. As the leading FPL points scorer by some margin it would be wrong to overlook him. The opposition will struggle: West Ham have some defensive injuries, including Fabianski carrying a slight knock, and they've conceded 9 goals across their last 3 games in all competitions. Salah has scored in every game against the Hammers, with 4 goals and 1 assist from 3 appearances. If the lure of a Double Gameweek player doesn't appeal, Salah provides the option to play safe as your shield pick.

Sword Pick: Sergio Aguero vs Arsenal (H) & Everton (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 3/4 Aguero has the highest ownership of all the Double Gameweek assets, so is likely to be a big captaincy contender across fantasy managers, and his goal and 9 point haul against Newcastle midweek will aid his appeal. He now has 3 goals and 2 assists since returning from injury, across 5 starts and 2 substitute appearances. However, in-form Jesus has also seen significant minutes in this period, so 2 starts for Aguero is far from guaranteed. He is on penalties for City, providing he's on the pitch and will deliver points when he starts. It's a risky choice as the sword pick and potentially not the safest route into the City attack, so shouldn't be considered for the Triple Captain chip.

Form Pick: Leroy Sane vs Arsenal (H) & Everton (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 21/20 Sane has the form for Manchester City in recent weeks, recovering from a tricky festive period to deliver 2 goals and 2 assists from his last 4 starts. He's been rested just once in the Premier League in the last two months, but there is concern with Ben Mendy returning to fitness that he could become a rotation risk once again. An early substitution against Newcastle is encouraging that he will be a starter in the next two fixtures, especially as he didn't feature in any Cup competitions for City before the last gameweek. For these reasons, if you are planning on using the Bench Boost and Free Hit chips in the larger double gameweeks, Sane could be the optimal Triple Captain candidate in this gameweek, if you are adamant on using this chip. However, with a potential Double Gameweek for Chelsea and Hazard somewhere down the line and some good Single Gameweek fixtures upcoming for Mo Salah, I'd advocate holding your trump card for now. Are you going with the form pick?

Fixture Pick: Eden Hazard vs Huddersfield (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 5/6 Eden Hazard is a worthy contender as our other single gameweek asset to consider, his FPL points total is second only to Salah, hitting double digits for goals and assists this season. He's got a plum home game against bottom of the league Huddersfield, he's back in his favoured position on the wing supporting new signing Higuain, plus he's on penalties too. Huddersfield have conceded 6 goals over their last 4 games. Will you opt for the fixture pick?

Punt Pick: Richarlison vs Wolves (H) & Manchester City (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 6/4 It's been a tricky period for Richarlison and selecting any Everton player as a captain seems like a big punt given their current form, with the City fixture likely to have a very low FPL points ceiling for their assets. However, Richarlison has goals in consecutive fixtures in all competitions, plus he scored a brace against Wolves back in Gameweek 1, which will further encourage his owners. He's likely to start both games and could deliver significant points in at least one of them: will you take a punt on the Everton player?

Park the Bus Pick: Ederson vs Arsenal (H) & Everton (A)

Clean Sheet Odds: 13/10 Manchester City edge Everton given their fixtures for clean sheet potential and there's been some notoriously large scores from goalkeepers in Double Gameweek's of the past. Ederson is the most nailed on starter from City's defence and barring some catastrophe, he will play 180 minutes across the two fixtures. The Manchester City defence have gone through some frustrating spells, but have got 10 clean sheets for the season. Ederson has also contributed an assist, 40 saves and 4 bonus points this season. Are you brave enough to captain a defender?

Clueless Husband Pick: Bernardo Silva vs Arsenal (H) & Everton (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 23/10 With the realisation that some of his players have two games coming up, my Clueless Husband is going with Bernardo Silva who has been a long term feature in his FPL side. With reduced minutes of late, he could be set for back to back starts. Silva has 5 goals and 6 assists this season, but his place in the side is far from guaranteed, with no injuries in the City midfield, including playmakers David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne fully fit. Will you side with my Clueless Husband? Until Next Week… Good Luck! Holly and her Clueless Husband Follow FPLBet for weekly fantasy features...
