FPL Heisenberg's Captain Series

Welcome to the latest article in a new series for the 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League season from @FPL_Heisenberg for FPL Bet. In this weekly series, Heisenberg will be looking into the best captaincy options, as well as ‘outside of the box' captaincy choices for each Gameweek. Heisenberg has a proven track record in FPL, having finished inside the top 32k in each of the last 6 seasons, including a best finish of 836th. Let's cook!

Gameweek 37 Captains:

Harry Kane (Fixture: Aston Villa, Home)

Harry Kane at home to an Aston Villa side who are conceding lots of goals in their recent games, seems too good a chance to miss for many.

Kane has been a goal threat for many years in the Premier League, but his assist threat is something he's added to his game. His passing ability has always been exceptional, but tactically he was more the man to get on the end of passes, now he's creating chances for his teammates too. The stats show how much better he's become creatively and he now has the most FPL assists of any player which is outstanding.

Spurs should benefit as a team offensively with Son and Kane both returning from recent injuries and getting game-time under their belts in recent weeks, coupled with Ryan Mason favouring Gareth Bale more than his predecessor did. Therefore, I see Kane's assist potential as increasing with Sonny and Bale on the pitch to finish off the chances he creates. Son and Bale can also create for Harry Kane too. Another consideration is penalties and as we know, Kane rarely misses from the spot so there's another route to points for England's number 9.

If you're playing catch up in your mini-leagues then maybe you fancy putting the armband on his teammate, the South Korean international Son who's also a good choice this Gameweek.

Mo Salah (Fixture: Burnley, Away)

Liverpool have struggled this season, but this hasn't stopped Salah from being in the mix for the golden boot race with 22 goals, neck and neck with ace marksman Harry Kane. Furthermore, his season-long form is still strong, with goals in Europe too.

He's been consistently performing well in all the key attacking metrics and I have no doubt this will continue this Gameweek against a Burnley side who were just hammered 4-0 by Leeds. Furthermore, as Mo is on penalties, that is another route to points for the Egyptian King too.

With Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool visiting Turf Moor in Gameweek 37, could we see Mo return with a bang and get two double-digit hauls in a row off the back off his 10-pointer away at West Brom? Those who captain him will certainly hope so.

Bruno Fernandes (Fixture: Fulham, Home)

Bruno is the top point scorer in FPL this season and is a very reliable option, week in week out. In the underlying statistics it's not surprising as he's near the top for shots and for chances created, he's a genuine double threat as he proved in Man United's most recent game, the home game vs Liverpool where he grabbed a goal.

Bruno can deliver goals and/or assists in any fixture and given the fact he should play 90 minutes at home to Fulham, there's every chance Mr Reliable can do the business. Furthermore, Bruno Fernandes is central to everything Man United do, and, importantly he takes penalties which as we all know, United win a lot of them!

More on another United asset below and the team they face, Fulham.

Outside of the Box' captains:

Mason Greenwood (Fixture: Fulham, Home)

The Man United midfielder is only selected by around 11% of FPL players at the time of writing, and therefore will be a huge captain differential.

Mason Greenwood will be hoping to force his way into Gareth Southgate's England squad with this type of form. He has 4 goals in his last 4 starts and is well rested ahead of Scott Parker's men visiting Old Trafford.

Facing Fulham at Old Trafford next, Scott Parker's relegated men will be the perfect fixture for United. Therefore, I cannot see them being able to stop Man United from scoring in this one, and hopefully Greenwood can be involved in the goals that do inevitably flow.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Fixture: Wolves, Home)

After a great start to the season, Dominic Calvert-Lewin went off the radar following some blanks and then some injury issues. He returned with a bang against Leeds and Man United then picked up a knock. Since then, his form (and injury issues) have been an problem and his output in terms of FPL returns has been poor. However, he has back to back goals vs Aston Villa and West Ham, followed up by a disappointing blank vs Sheffield United.

In terms of the underlying statistics at the start of the season, he was top for non-penalty expected goals for all players in the league. He was getting himself into the positions where he's most likely to score goals, in the central areas of the penalty area, with most of his goals being one touch finishes something he and Ancelotti have been working hard on.

His output suffered recently when Lucas Digne, Richarlison and James Rodriguez all missed games through injury. With those players now back in the game along with the ever-creative Sigurdsson supplying chances to Calvert-Lewin he should have an increased chance to score goals.

Everton have a really nice fixture at home to Wolves who have been poor defensively for most of the season.
