FPL Heisenberg's Captain Series
Welcome to the latest article in a new series for the 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League season from @FPL_Heisenberg for FPL Bet. In this weekly series, Heisenberg will be looking into the best captaincy options, as well as ‘outside of the box' captaincy choices for each Gameweek. Heisenberg has a proven track record in FPL, having finished inside the top 32k in each of the last 6 seasons, including a best finish of 836th. Let's cook!
Gameweek 28 Captains:
Bruno Fernandes (Fixture: West Ham, Home)
Bruno Fernandes is central to everything Man United do, and, importantly he takes penalties which as we all know, United win a lot of them! In fact, many people sold him in Gameweek 27 where he faced Man City at the Etihad, where he popped up with a penalty.
No captain option has a stand out fixture this week, and Bruno is no different. Facing a West Ham side on form, looking to gate-crash the Champions League positions this game will by no means be easy, but I'm hoping Mr Reliable can do the business.
Bruno is the top point scorer in FPL this season and is a very reliable option, week in week out. He's my number one choice for captaincy this week.
Ilkay Gundogan (Fixture: Fulham, Away)
The German midfielder has transformed himself this season, from a holding or central midfielder, to one who's arriving into the box to get tap ins from 8 yards out! This upturn in attacking form from Gundogan has contributed massively to Man City's overall exemplary form and they bounced back with a 5-2 win vs Southampton, where Gundogan bagged and picked up a bonus point too.
I'm fairly confident that Gundogan will play as he had a rest fairly recently, however be warned… it's Pep Guardiola, the man loves to rest players just to annoy us FPL managers!
There's some talk that Gundogan will be less attacking now De Bruyne is back, but I don't buy this, especially as both De Bruyne and Gundogan found the net whilst playing in midfield together vs Southampton. Gundogan is still getting into great positions and I fully expect him to be getting some attacking returns in these matches.
Will Man City be able to kick on further? For those captaining one of their assets, they'll sure hope that is the case.
Harry Kane (Fixture: Arsenal, Away)
Harry Kane has been a goal threat for many years in the Premier League, but his assist threat is something he's added to his game. His season was defined last Gameweek vs Crystal Palace where he got 2 goals and 2 assists.
His passing ability has always been exceptional, but tactically he was more the man to get on the end of passes, now he's creating chances for two other good attackers, Gareth Bale and Heung-Min Son. The stats show how much better he's become creatively and he now has the most FPL assists of any player which is outstanding.
The good news for Kane is he's been fully rested in the last two Europa League games, meaning he isn't racking up unnecessary minutes leading to burnout or injury, so you'd assume he is nailed on for 90 minutes against the Arsenal.
If you don't have Kane in your FPL team then maybe you fancy putting the armband on his teammate, the South Korean international Son or the Welsh pin-up Gareth Bale who's recent form is sensational.
‘Outside of the Box' captains:
Jamie Vardy (Fixture: Sheffield United, Home)
Although Vardy's recent form hasn't been great without the attacking force of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, he still has a good record overall this season.
The veteran striker has 12 goals and 9 assists this season. He's been consistently performing well in all the key metrics too such as; shots on target, shots in the box and expected goals and I have no doubt this will continue against The Blades. Furthermore, as Vardy is on penalties, that is another route to points for him too and Leicester have won a lot of them so far this season.
The Sheffield Wednesday fan could do damage to the club sitting bottom of the table, suffering without their first choice defenders and no Dean Henderson in net this season for the other team from Sheffield.
Richarlison (Fixture: Burnley, Home)
One of my differential captain picks in Gameweek 28 is the £8.0m Everton forward Richarlison. Currently sitting at 10% ownership at the time of writing � he will be a huge captain differential, with your mini-league rivals likely to captain one of the premium assets like Kane or Bruno Fernandec etc.
If he can pick up where he left off in the last few games, then Richarlison could be in for another productive game at home to Sean Dyche's men. A home fixture for Ancelotti's Everton against a shaky Burnley side is a perfect fixture for the Brazilian to score well in.
It is important to note that the upturn in Richarlison's goalscoring form has coincided with Ancelotti moving him from a wide attacking midfielder, to a striker up front with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, meaning less defensive duties and he's in better positions to score goals.
