Welcome to the latest article in a new series for the 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League season from @FPL_Heisenberg for FPL Bet. In this weekly series, Heisenberg will be looking into the best captaincy options, as well as ‘outside of the box' captaincy choices for each Gameweek. Heisenberg has a proven track record in FPL, having finished inside the top 32k in each of the last 6 seasons, including a best finish of 836th. Let's cook!
Gameweek 15 Captains:
Mo Salah (Fixture: West Brom, Home)
In just 33 minutes off the bench in Gameweek 14 at Selhurst Park, Salah managed to bag himself a brace and grabbed an assist for a 16-point haul.
Salah is a top-pick for captaincy in Gameweek 15, especially since he's facing a West Brom side that has conceded 29 goals so far this season, only Leeds have conceded more with 30. He's coming into this game off the back of a good run of form on blanking twice this season, in fact he hasn't blanked in any game he's played since Gameweek 6.
The Egyptian King has 13 goals and 4 assists in 13 league games. He's been consistently performing well in all the key metrics such as creating chances, shots on target, shots in the box, expected assists and expected goals and I have no doubt this will continue against Fulham. Furthermore, as Mo is on penalties, that is another route to points for him too.
Reliable player, on penalties and facing a side who have conceded the second most amount of goals this season? Yes please.
Kevin De Bruyne (Newcastle, Home)
De Bruyne has been a bit hit and miss recently, double digit returns against Burnley and Fulham in Gameweek 10 and 11, followed up by just 12 points in 3 Gameweeks. Furthermore, he is still yet to score a goal from open play!
De Bruyne was last seasons top point scorer, but he needs to start adding more open play goals to his assists if he wants to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. He has a strong chance of doing that this week, after he was once again well-rested in a midweek non-Premier League fixture, away at Arsenal in the League Cup.
Will Man City be able to kick on against a poor Newcastle side, returning to their free-scoring performances. For those captaining De Bruyne, they'll sure hope so.
If you fancy a Man City player for this nice fixture but you're not keen on De Bruyne, then look no further than Raheem Sterling who is owned by less than 5% of managers, it could be a big opportunity to gain rank if he bangs and the other premiums flop.
Bruno Fernandes (Leicester, Away)
Bruno Fernandes delivered for managers yet again against a Leeds team who concede a lot of goals. 2 goals and an assist saw him score a massive 17 points in Gameweek 15 and he'll be looking to add to that away at Leicester.
He's central to everything Man United do, and, importantly he takes penalties which as we all know, United win a lot of them! Bruno usually does very well away from home, in fact his last away match away at Sheffield United was his first away blank since joining Man United!
Depending on your team structure and bank balance, you may not have the cash for Bruno and therefore you can't squeeze him in. However, you may have his teammate Marcus Rashford who bagged an impressive brace in GW13 and looked sharp all game against Sheffield United, he did however manager to blank even though United put 6 past Leeds. Having said this, with his pace on the counter attack, Rashford is another player who's done better on the road this season for United.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Fixture: Sheffield United, Away)
What a season Dominic Calvert-Lewin is having with 11 goals and 4 assists in 14 Premier League games
The England number 9 has only blanked twice this season - this is no fluke. In terms of the underlying statistics he's top for non-penalty expected goals for all players in the league this season. He's getting himself into the positions where he's most likely to score goals, in the central areas of the penalty area, with most of his goals being one touch finishes � something he and Ancelotti have been working hard on.
Everton are away to bottom of the league Sheffield United and I'll be surprised if they can contain Everton in this game.
Calvert-Lewin tends to do better with Richarlison in the side as Everton's attacking output increases with him in the team, and, should this continue then Calvert-Lewin could have a field day at Bramall Lane vs Sheffield United.
‘Outside of the Box' captains:
Patrick Bamford (Fixture: Burnley, Home)
Although the Leeds centre-forward is currently selected by around 43% of FPL players at the time of writing, he will be a huge captain differential, with your mini-league rivals likely to captain one of the premium assets like Salah, Bruno, De Bruyne etc.
The Englishman has had a great season so far, with 9 goals and 3 assists in 14 games, playing in a team who see plenty of action in both penalty areas! In terms of the underlying statistics he's second of all players for non-penalty expected goals in the league this season
Facing Burnley next, Sean Dyche is bound to play a style which is difficult to break down. However, I cannot see them being able to stop Bamford and co scoring at least 2 goals, hopefully Bamford can be involved in the goals that do inevitably flow.
