Fantasy Premier League Captain Tips For Gameweek 20

Share post on:
Welcome back to another Fantasy Premier League Captain Tips for Gameweek 20 article. This week jamieFPL returns to highlight the best low, medium and high-risk candidates for your captain's armband. Ahead of Gameweek 19 we tipped Mesut Özil (14) and Odion Ighalo (5) as low risk captain choices and both delivered the goods, the former racking up a huge score with a goal and assist against Bournemouth. Gameweek 20 has a number of good candidates for the armband. Whilst we wouldn't recommend you transfer in any of our ‘high risk' candidates into your FPL lineups, we believe they could be worth their weight in gold in daily fantasy football contests. The Christmas period has led to congested fixture list. With a number of teams playing three games in seven days, be cautious of your selection and choose your vice-captain wisely.

Low Risk

Mesut Özil vs. Newcastle (H)

Mesut Özil has been absolutely incredible this season, contributing either a goal or assist in every game Arsenal have scored in since Gameweek 5. So if you're looking for a player that oozes consistency, he's your man. There have been 18 goals scored in the last three Premier League meetings between Arsenal and Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium. If things follow in familiar fashion, then expect another double-digit haul from the Arsenal man. Newcastle have been leaking goals away from home, conceding an over 2.5 goals per game in their last six on the road. If that isn't enough, Özil was awarded man of the match for his goal and assist last time these two met at the Emirates.

Riyad Mahrez vs. Bournemouth (H)

After a tough run of fixtures at arguably one of the hardest times of the year, Leicester will no doubt be relishing the opportunity to face fellow new-boys Bournemouth at the Liberty Stadium. The Foxes are unbeaten in their last five games against Bournemouth (W4 D1) and having failed to find a win in their last two matches (vs. Liverpool & Man City), Ranieri will be keen to return to winning ways. Mahrez has been unstoppable this season and has already tallied up thirteen goals and seven assists. The midfielder hasn't blanked in three consecutive games yet this season, so we expect him to explode back on the scene this weekend.

Medium Risk

Romelu Lukaku vs. Tottenham (H)

Last weekend we saw Romelu Lukaku fail to continue his goalscoring run of seven consecutive games after not finding the back of the net against Newcastle. Two days and two goals later, he's back! His brace against Stoke takes his total to 15 for the season, which means he's now the joint top goalscorer in the Premier League, along with record breaker Jamie Vardy. Tottenham are no pushovers and we actually expect them to take three points from this fixture, however, we don't see them escaping this one with a clean sheet and if Everton score you can almost guarantee it being Lukaku.

Harry Kane vs. Everton (A)

It is well and truly battle of the youngsters this weekend at Goodison Park with Harry Kane looking to take away the spotlight from fellow 22-year old striker - and previous tip - Romelu Lukaku. Kane has shown some consistency in recent weeks averaging at 8.6 points per game from his last three Premier League matches. With three goals in his last three, we expect him to convert past a leaky Everton defence. Everton have conceded over 2.5 goals in their last three matches and when paired with Tottenham's excellent form on the road (unbeaten since GW1), it'll be a tall order for the Toffee's to contain them.

High Risk

Diego Costa vs. Crystal Palace (A)

For the first time this season, Diego Costa made the headlines for his performance rather than an aggressive outburst, after scoring two against Watford at Stamford Bridge. However, he did also pick up his fifth yellow card of the season meaning he was suspended for Chelsea's following fixture against Premier League rivals Manchester United, which ended 0-0. His suspension meant that his good performance slipped under the radar and his current ownership still stands at fewer than 5.0%. A dangerous differential for sure, but he's a great high risk, high reward candidate for your armband this weekend.

Marko Arnautovic vs. West Brom (A)

After his gorgeous free kick against Manchester United on Boxing Day, fantasy managers threw Arnautovic on the bandwagon faster than Riyad Mahrez in Gameweek 1. Luckily like Riyad Mahrez in Gameweek 2 Arnautovic rewarded those sporadic managers with a goal from the spot and an assist in Stoke's 4-3 win over Everton. Note that Bojan was of the field, hence why he took the penalty. West Brom aren't the easiest team to break down at home, but with the Potters in a bit of a purple patch a the moment, we could easily see the Austrian midfield return good points for the third week in a row.   [poll id="9"]
