Fantasy Premier League Captain Tips For Gameweek 19

Share post on:
Welcome back to another Fantasy Premier League Captain Tips for Gameweek 19 article. This week jamieFPL returns to highlight the best low, medium and high-risk candidates for your captain's armband. Harry Kane (10), Kevin de Bruyne (13) and Diego Costa (9) were the best low, medium and high-risk choices for Gameweek 18. Elsewhere, popular choices Riyad Mahrez (2), Romelu Lukaku (2) and Sergio Agüero (0) failed to bring back more than a couple of points. Gameweek 19 has a number of good candidates for the armband.  Whilst we wouldn't recommend you transfer in any of our ‘high risk' candidates into your FPL lineups, we believe they could be worth their weight in gold in daily fantasy football contests.

Low Risk

Mesut Özil vs. Bournemouth (H)

Arsenal's four match unbeaten run came to an abrupt end when out of form Southampton dominated them in a 4-0 victory at Saint Mary's. Currently two points from top, the Gunners will be looking to bounce back immediately versus Bournemouth. Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 21 Premier League meetings against newly-promoted opposition (W17 D4) so they're strong favourites to brush aside the Cherries on their visit to the Emirates. Özil has been influential in Arsenal's attack this season, contributing two goals and a whopping 15 assists just five away from Henry's Premier League record of 20. If Arsenal score against Bournemouth, you can almost guarantee Özil will be involved.

Odion Ighalo vs. Tottenham (H)

Arguably one of the most in-form strikers in the Premier League,  having scored six goals in his last five matches. Tottenham have been showing some decent defensive form in the past few weeks, but if there's one man to break them down it's Ighalo. This will be the first Premier League meeting between managers Mauricio Pochettino and Quique Sánchez Flores - their first ever meeting in La Liga saw Flores' Atletico Madrid side beat Pochettino's Espanyol outfit 4-0 at home (Nov 2009). Watford are unbeaten in their last five league home games against Spurs (W2 D3). Despite both teams being excellent in defence, we expect this fixture to open up with both teams planning open, attacking football, thus complementing the likes of Ighalo and Kane.

Medium Risk

Harry Kane vs. Watford (A)

As we previously mentioned we expect Watford versus Spurs to bring goals, so it'd be hypocritical for us to tip in-form Odion Ighalo and then not mention in-form Harry Kane. The English youngster bagged a brace against Norwich on Boxing Day taking his total to 11 for the season, only four goals away from league top goal scorer Jamie Vardy (15). Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to get one back over his former La Liga rival Quique Flores, and if there's one striker you're going to put your money on it's the Hurrikane.

Christian Benteke vs. Sunderland (A)

Following their 3-0 away defeat to Watford in Gameweek 17, Liverpool bounced back with an impressive 1-0 victory over league leaders Leicester. They also became the first team to stop the Tigers scoring this season, which is impressive in the absence of Skrtel. Christian Benteke converted the winner on Boxing Day and somehow failed to grab a second after being denied by Wes Morgan as Kasper Schmeichel charged back having gone up for a set-piece. This week Liverpool travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland who are conceding for fun this year. In addition to this, Christian Benteke has netted five goals in six Premier League appearances against Sunderland; more than versus any other side - this includes one of only two hat-tricks in the competition (April 2013).

High Risk

Jordan Ayew vs. Norwich (A)

Aston Villa are sitting rock bottom of the table and their recent form suggests why (LDLDD), so it may come as a shock to see a Villian striker crop up in our captaincy tips for this weekend. It's called the ‘high risk' section for a reason. The former Marseille striker has started to gel with strike partner Rudy Gestede and has converted two goals in his last two matches, making his total stand at five for the season. Norwich haven't won their final league game in a calendar year since 2010; losing in 2014, 2013 and 2012 and drawing in 2011. If you fancy a huge punt, then Ayew scoring and Villa making it four wins in four against the Canaries could be an option.

Loic Remy vs. Manchester United (A)

Diego Costa exploded back on the scene during Gameweek 18 with a brace against Watford at Stamford Bridge. He did however pick up his fifth yellow card of the season meaning he's suspended for their next fixture against Manchester United. Loic Remy seems the likely candidate to replace the Spaniard up top and will be looking to impress interim manager Guus Hiddink. Opposition Man Utd are in poor form and fans are calling for their managers dismissal, so now is a great time to play their league rivals. The Blues are unbeaten in their last five Premier League meetings with Man Utd (W3 D2) and Chelsea will be looking to stand-in striker Remy to continue this record.   [poll id="8"]
