Gameweek 3 Attacking Potential: Form vs Fixture vs Odds

Share post on:
Welcome to our new attacking potential article that compares each teams attacking form, fixture difficulty and bookies odds to score ahead of Gameweek 3. As we're still at such an early point in the season, the data range isn't as large as we'd like therefore somewhat distorting the results. In future articles we intend to include each teams last four fixtures (two home, two away) to give a more accurate reading. Each Premier League team has been rated 1-20 (1 being the best in the league, 20 being the worst in the league) based on form, fixture and odds. They've then been totalled up and colour coded to easily visualise which teams have a good chance of a clean sheet in Gameweek 3. Callum Read is here to guide you through each category and share his knowledge in the form of strategy and tips.

Best Attacking Form Ahead of Gameweek 3:

Team Goals Scored Chances Crea. Big Chances
MCI 6 20 5
MUN 5 16 5
LIV 4 35 2
CHE 4 20 4
HUL 4 15 3
Manchester City have scored six goals in their opening two Premier League matches, with Sergio Aguero finding the net three times. New manager Pep Guardiola has got his front line firing on all cylinders and more importantly has all his attacking players playing well. Raheem Sterling was the scapegoat of the British press during the Euro's but so far under Pep has two assists in 180 minutes of Premier League football and looks incredibly sharp. Summer signing Nolito has also started well, he came off the bench to score two goals in 21 minutes vs. Stoke City and also registered a goal and an assist in Manchester City's first leg win over Steaua Bucuresti, it could be time to say goodbye to Jesus Navas and hello to Nolito in the City XI. On the other side of Manchester, Jose Mourinho is also enjoying a successful start to the season, as is Zlatan United. The Manchester United number nine has scored three goals in two Premier League games and is proving to be a dominant force in the air. Former Chelsea outcast Juan Mata is proving critics wrong and looks to be in the mix under Mourinho, he's created three chances and scored one goal this season. Frenchman, Anthony Martial has also created three chances and is injecting much needed pace into the Red Devils front line. Liverpool place third on the form chart, but it's incredibly hard to provide a tip for their attack due to the vast amount of options. With the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge at Jürgen Klopp's disposal, a couple of the stars are more than likely going to miss out. If we were forced to put our neck on the line then we'd side with Sadio Mane who is already proving to be a favourite at Anfield after signing from Southampton this summer. Antonio Conte is infamous for building defensively tight sides but his Chelsea side place fourth on the attacking form table and will be backing themselves to see off a newly promoted Burnley side. We saw in the EFL Cup that Chelsea have no trouble creating chances, it's the final product of scoring the goals that is causing them the problems. We must understand that when you have the opportunity to kill the game, you must kill the game” was the Italians post match analysis. Michy Batshuayi has scored three goals and one assist in three appearances for Chelsea, two of which have been substitute appearances. Eden Hazard played the final 15 minutes against Bristol Rovers so will be fighting fit going into the tie against Burnley, the Belgian has started the campaign like the old Hazard, causing defenders all sorts of problems - he's created four chances, grabbed one assist, one goal and registered seven shots in two games. Surprisingly Hull place fifth on the table, despite being written off as relegation favourites. The Tigers currently have a 100% record in the Premier League and host Manchester United this weekend. Abel Hernandez scored in Hull's win against Swansea in Gameweek 2 and provides a cheap third striker option, in midfield, Robert Snodgrass is the standout pick, he scored in the opening day win over Leicester and also found the net in Hull's 3-1 EFL Cup win over Exeter.

Best Attacking Fixture For Gameweek 3:

Team Vs. Goals Conc. Big Chances Conc.
EVE STO 5 5
TOT LIV 5 1
CRY BOU 4 6
SOT SUN 4 3
WAT ARS 4 2
In terms of which clubs have the most attractive attacking fixture in Gameweek 3, based on statistics, we are presented with five completely new sides. Everton face a Stoke City side that conceded four against a rampant Manchester City last weekend. Whilst Everton will welcome Romelu Lukaku back to their starting lineup, it's Ross Barkley who catches our eye, he's grabbed a goal and an assist already this season as well as creating five chances for the Toffees. Despite having an impressive array of attacking options, Liverpool still look very vulnerable at the back and won't have an easy time against Tottenham. We like the look of Argentinian Erik Lamela who scored in Spurs' opening day draw with Everton, he's also created five chances and looks to be a danger going forwards for Tottenham.   Crystal Palace, Southampton and Watford all face sides that have conceded four goals, although it's perhaps unfair to include Arsenal in this as they did keep a clean sheet against Champions, Leicester City last weekend. Nathan Redmond has become a favourite of FPL managers already this season due to the fact he's listed as a midfielder but has started the season playing upfront alongside Shane Long. Dusan Tadic seems to have gone under the radar because of this, the Serbian has created the second most chances in the league (8) and had the fourth most shots (8). Andros Townsend has also been shot happy this season, the Palace winger also has eight shots and has created five chances. With 6ft 3” striker Christian Benteke joining the Eagles, Townsend may see one of his chances converted by the Belgian.

Bookies Odds To Score In Gameweek 3:

Team To Score Implied Chance
MCI 1.03 97.09%
CHE 1.05 95.24%
MUN 1.13 88.50%
ARS, SOT, EVE 1.14 87.72%
LEI 1.17 85.47%
The bookies odds are always provide an unbiased opinion and provide an eye opening look at the weekends fixtures. Manchester City top the table, as previously mentioned, their attacking options have all been impressive so far this season but it's hard to overlook to goalscoring machine that is Sergio Aguero. Despite his expensive price tag you'd be mad not to own the Argentine. Chelsea place second and Antonio Conte will be hoping his side can record a blowout victory, in all three of their competitive fixtures this season they've created countless chances but struggled to convert them, this could change against a Burnley side whose confidence is high after beating Liverpool 2-0 - a game in which they faced 26 shots and only had 20% possession. Manchester United unsurprisingly place in the top five for the bookies odds, it's hard to see them not finding the net against Hull City, especially with the vast amount of attacking quality Mourinho has to his disposal. Arsenal will be hoping to find their first win of the season when they travel to Watford, Alexis Sanchez is without doubt the star man in the Gunners' XI, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain provides a cheaper option in midfield. He scored in the defeat to Liverpool and is a powerful, direct winger who will be hoping to expose Watford's back line. Southampton and Everton also have the same odds as Arsenal, their home fixtures against Sunderland and Stoke respectively provide both sides with a great chance to grab three points. Leicester complete the bookies odds table, the Champions will play hosts to Swansea. Jamie Vardy will be looking to grab his first goal of the season but it's Riyad Mahrez who looks the safer option, he's back taking penalties and has had seven shots on goal in two games.
