Gameweek 13: Team of the Week (Bet4theBest)

Share post on:
The first time I ever played Bet4theBest I won £85 from a fiver. Sure, my luck has changed in recent weeks, but I'm still a long distance away from being in the red. This week I'm relying on heavy Liverpool and West Brom coverage, paired with a differential captain, to boost my bank balance ahead of Christmas. Bet4theBest is a website that allows you to create a new FPL team each GW and enter it into either a £5, £10 or £20 league. The entry fees are totalled up and split between the managers who scored highest that GW. The game is one that I feel you guys will learn quickly and could profit from. The website boasts budget-free team selection, top-heavy payout structures and smaller, more competitive, contests.

My Bet4theBest XI for Gameweek 13:

Bet4theBest GW13

Formation & Philosophy:

This week I've opted for 4-3-3 as I feel that Gameweek 13 looks set to be a goal-fest… cue another low scoring week. My team is largely built around the Liverpool power-trio of Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho & Sadio Mane, and contains a handful of in-form attackers including Jermain Defoe and Matt Phillips.

Goalkeeper & Defence:

West Brom recorded their fourth clean sheet of the season in their Monday night victory over Burnley. The Baggies are known for their defensive stability and Pulis will no doubt expect another resolute performance from his backline against Hull City. The Tigers have failed to score in their last two away matches and so far this season have averaged less than one goal scored per game (0.83). Based on these reasons, I've opted for two West Brom defensive players this week on Bet4theBest. I'll be hoping that Ben Forster returns a clean sheet, along with teammate Gareth McAuley who also possesses a strong goal threat. The Baggies centre back has had more big chances this season than any other defender (3, tied with Van Der Hoorn). Ryan Shawcross and Scott Dann complete my three man defence based on similar reasons as McAuley. Shawcross has looked the biggest threat of all defenders over the last four weeks, and has recorded more headed goal attempts (3) than any player in his position. Whilst Scott Dann doesn't have particularly good underlying stats following his return from injury, he's proved a contest winner for me multiple times on Bet4theBest. This week he faces Swansea who have conceded an average of 2 goals per game in their last four home matches. Note: If this was FPL, there's no way I'd transfer in Scott Dann for Gameweek 13 based on Palace's poor defensive record. However, defender goals are heavily rewarded on Bet4theBest and can often be tournament defining.

Midfield:

Matt Phillips flew 7 places up the Power Rankings following his 11 point haul against Burnley last time out. He's managed two goals and two assists in as many games, and has the perfect opportunity to extend that run against Hull this weekend. It's perhaps a rather questionable decision to include attacking coverage from Swansea considering they've only managed 3 goals in their last 4 matches. However, Gylfi Sigurdsson has been on my radar since his goal against Arsenal in Gameweek 8 and this weekend could be the perfect time to select him. The Swans welcome Crystal Palace to the Liberty this weekend and will see this as a perfect opportunity to record their second win of the season. Palace have lost their last five matches, conceding 13 goals in the process. Sigurdsson has managed a goal or assist in his last three, and his point potential is boosted as the designated set-piece and penalty taker. Sadio Mane & Philippe Coutinho make up the four man midfield ahead of their home tie against Sunderland. Liverpool have played five home matches this season and both players have returned 10+ point hauls in three of these matches. After discovering this statistic, I opted for both rather than trying to choose between the two.

Forwards:

Roberto Firmino completes my Liverpool attacking trio for many of the same reasons I mentioned above. He's averaged 8.1 points per 90 on home turf this season, scoring and assisting three. Sunderland may have kept a clean sheet against Hull last weekend, but repeating that away at Liverpool will be a far greater task. Jermain Defoe's current run of form reminds me of a time when my football club weren't pushing for promotion in League 2, but instead defending the FA Cup. Nostalgia aside, I imagine Defoe will feature in several teams this weekend as Sunderland travel to Liverpool. Both sides have been unconvincing at the back this season and Klopp looks to be focusing on scoring more than his opponents, rather than shutting them out. Although I expect Sunderland to lose, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Defoe's name on the scoresheet. Last but not least, Sergio Aguero completes my lineup ahead of his visit to Turf Moor. Burnley have performed better at home than away this season, but they haven't managed to keep a clean sheet at home in their last three. Last weekend West Brom stuffed four past them and Sean Dyche must be dreading the arrival of Guardiola's boys. Sergio Aguero is my chosen Manchester City coverage for obvious reasons. He's on eight goals this season, six of which have come as a brace. After failing to score against Palace last time out, I've got my money on him sending his tally for the season up to 10.

Captain:

Sadio Mane has been gifted the trusted armband ahead of Gameweek 13 following his exceptional form at home. The attacking midfielder has averaged a staggering 10 points per 90 minutes this season, returning 10+ point hauls in 3 of his last 5 matches at Anfield. Good luck to those of you taking part this weekend! Article by jamieFPL
