Gameweek 11 Fantasy Premier League: One To Watch.
Gameweek 10 was loaded with plenty of goals and excitement, but unfortunately my “ones to watch,” weren't really able to get into the fun. Payet was largely invisible against Everton, Traore had another decent showing but was unable to record a goal or assist, but at least the always reliable Sigurdsson was able to pick out a teammate and claim those valuable fantasy points for an assist. While Claude Puel's comparison of Nathan Redmond to Thierry Henry has not exactly materialized, the Southampton striker/wide-man has begun to give fantasy managers some food for thought in recent weeks.
The pacey Englishman has found the back of the net twice in his past three league matches, including one against league leaders Man City.
His unrelenting effort is to thank for any of his output as his constant pressing, dribbling at defenders and shooting are beginning to pay off. In the four matches prior the Saints' draw against Man City, Redmond took 14 shots from within the opponent's box as well as successfully taking on 10 opponents.
Unfortunately, Redmond's production dipped quite heavily against Chelsea last week and that could partially be attributed to the fact that he was pushed out to the right wing in order to accommodate for Sofiane Boufal.
The ex-Norwich City man moving back into a midfield role may be enough to stave off most fantasy managers, but a matchup against Hull makes Redmond a very intriguing option.
It's not exactly a secret that Hull City have a terrible defense, but what some may have not realized is that the Tigers are specifically awful at defending right-wingers. Other than Watford, teams have had a field day marauding down the left side of Hull's defense.
Xherdan Shaqiri was able to score twice against them, Junior Stanislas managed two goals and two assists while stationed on the right wing, Willian picked up a goal and when Hull faced Liverpool, Mane and Lallana were able to combine for two goals and two assists from the right side of the pitch.
Picking players facing an exceptionally weak defense is never a bad idea, and this week Redmond may reward his owners handsomely with a huge fantasy return.
Worth A Punt: Ilkay Gundogan
Man City had begun to slip in recent fixtures, but a stroke of tactical genius by Pep Guardiola has seemingly turned the side back to its dominating ways. One player who is benefitting from the tactical switch the most is my punt of the week, Ilkay Gundogan. After experimenting with a slew of odd formations, Guardiola has returned to a back four with Fernandinho as a holding midfielder, which has resulted in Gundogan playing in a more advanced position. It didn't take very long for the German to acclimate to his new position either. In City's match against West Brom last weekend, Gundogan had four shots, which was only topped by Aguero's five, two of which found the back of the net. Just in case anyone thought his performance was a fluke against poor opposition, the midfielder went out and replicated his performance against none other than the Spanish League giants Barcelona. Again, Gundogan had the second most shots, this time three, and he scored twice to help Man City claim a statement win in the Champions League. With his shooting boots firmly strapped on and City's attack clicking into full gear once again, Gundogan offers great fantasy value for the small price of £5.6m.Keep An Eye On: Wilfried Bony
Sometimes all it takes is one goal to pull a player out of a slump, and for all our sake, let's hope that is the case for Wilfried Bony. Bony had gotten off to a rough start at Stoke City, going seven games without scoring a goal. It was a frustrating time for both the striker and his new club, but a brace against Swansea could prove to be the turning point in his season. The Ivorian's first strike of the season came when Swansea botched a clearance from a corner which allowed Joe Allen to pick up the pieces and thread the ball through to Bony for an easy tap in. Later in the match, Allen found himself wreaking havoc in Swansea's box yet again and was able to clip the ball up to Bony for a simple header. Neither goal was particularly flashy, but at this point in the season it didn't really matter how Bony found the back of the net, he just needed to do it. This performance comes at a great time for Stoke's new number nine, as he will surely enter matches against West Ham and Bournemouth with a newfound sense of confidence. With no strikers other than Aguero, Costa and Lukaku really making a compelling argument to be included in your fantasy team, Bony could provide a great alternate as your second or third forward.
