GW33+ Stats - Number Crunching Time

Premier League GW33+ Begins Saturday 4th July 2020

The Premier League title race may have been won and although Liverpool were champions elect from last November onwards, there are still several sub-plots that need to be completed between now and the end of the season.

Be it the race for the Champions or Europa League or the battle to avoid relegation to the EFL Championship, more drama is set to unfold and of course, there is the small matter of your FPL mini leagues.

Can you find the edge in these final half dozen gamweeks and get over the line in your own titanic tussles? If you are to, you may need a few more stats to help your title tilt and with that in mind, it's time for another round of….

Did You Know?

Liverpool have gone FIFTY-SIX home Premier League games unbeaten and if they extend that run this Sunday against Aston Villa, not only will it become FIFTY-SEVEN but it will also be the equivalent of three full seasons worth of home fixtures.

Imagine that, being a season ticket holder and not seeing your team lose for three whole seasons. That is an absolutely monster run and when you talk about teams creating a fortress, it certainly is a case of fortress Anfield.

Not only that, but Liverpool have won 35 of their last 38 matches (Premier League). Which goes to show just how imperious Jurgen Klopp's men have been over the course of this season and the previous one.

Aston Villa have allowed their opponents the most attempts from counter attacks in the Premier League this season, with 30 and who do they go up against on Sunday……Liverpool

While Dean Smith's men have failed to win any of their last eight league outings and suddenly, the manager's usual chirpy demeanour is starting to sour. Has the inevitable finally dawned on the Villa Park head honcho?

Wolves have been drawing at half time and winning at full time in their last 3 matches (Premier League). In addition to that, Nuno Espirtio Santo's men are unbeaten in their last eight and that is the joint longest unbeaten streak at present, a streak they share with Manchester United.

While it comes as no real surprise, that both teams are finding their groove at just the right time of the season and should this continue, one if not both will be playing Champions League football next time around.

Manchester City have won their last 7 matches against Southampton in all competitions. That does not bode well for the Saints this weekend, especially now that the former champions have their tails up once again.

In addition to that, Manchester City have attempted the most crosses per game in the Premier League this season, with 23.97. Something that Southampton will have to prepare for this Sunday.

Martin Dubravka (Newcastle United) has made the most saves in the Premier League this season, with 119. Arguably Newcastle's player of the season and takeover or not, he should be in Newcastle colours and more importantly, starting regularly during the 2020/21 campaign.

Bournemouth have attempted the fewest passes that were played off the ground per game in the Premier League this season, with 29.63. Bournemouth have not won any of their last seven league outings and you do get the feeling that Eddie Howe is starting to run out of ideas.

When you look at a stock market graph and then you look at Eddie Howe's personal stock as Bournemouth manager, there is a sense that he has perhaps stayed on too long at the Vitality Stadium and if he does lead the Cherries to relegation, will his own personal value plummet?

The race for the Golden Boot seems is an interesting one and it seems as if there has been a drop off in big goal totals. In the three seasons between 2015/16 and 2016/18, there was a season on season increase in terms of the output from the eventual winner.

However, last season saw just 22 goals scored by the three joint winners (0.58 goals per game) and if we look at the current rate of goals, there is every chance that the recipient of the accolade will only match that same tally. Where are all the goals going? Is it due to a greater spread? It's one to keep an eye on.
