Premier League GW26 Starts Saturday 27th February 2021
They say every gameweek is important, but is this gameweek the most important of all? When you look at how many fixtures are in the makeup of this one, it is hard to argue against it and this is the round in which your season will be made or broken.
Have you kept a chip in your locker? Are you tempted by the triple captain bonanza for someone on double duty? These are just two questions that you will have to ask yourself in the hunt for end of season glory.
Navigate this tricky week correctly and to the victor goes the spoils, while get this one wrong and it will be a case of your fantasy becoming a rather harsh reality, as your title tilt is one that runs out of steam.
How do you navigate such choppy waters? Well to start with, you are going to need a multitude of big points scorers and the best place to start is the current top 10. A list that currently looks as follows:
Player | Team | Position | Points |
Fernandes | MUN | MID | 190 |
Salah | LIV | MID | 164 |
Son | TOT | MID | 159 |
Kane | TOT | FWD | 155 |
Bamford | LEE | FWD | 140 |
Martínez | AVL | GKP | 130 |
Grealish | AVL | MID | 129 |
Sterling | MCI | MID | 128 |
Vardy | LEI | FWD | 128 |
Rashford | MUN | MID | 126 |
Manchester United returned to winning ways at the weekend and that has only solidified Bruno Fernandes' stature as the dominant force in fantasy football this season, as the Portuguese midfielder moves further clear at the top.
The Portuguese star now has a 26-point lead over his nearest rival and with Mohamed Salah drawing a blank in the Merseyside derby last Saturday, he will be glad that those in third and fourth place also struggled.
Something that seems to be an ongoing theme for both Harry Kane and Hueng-min Son as of late and with the Tottenham pair failing to do the business against West Ham, they did little to add to their current points tally.
While if they keep this sluggish run of form going, they will be in the headlights of Patrick Bamford in fifth place and with the Leeds forward being handed a double gameweek, he has pulled further away from the rest of the top 10.
Currently sixth place is Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez and when you consider the Argentine is a goalkeeper, his haul of 130 points is nothing short of incredible. To the point where, anyone who does not have him in their starting eleven, must seriously regret it.
He finds himself a point clear of teammate Jack Grealish and with the England midfielder not featuring against Leicester last Sunday, it has caused all manner of furore regarding the playing of this beautiful fantasy game.
While although it is now banned in the Villa camp, who knows what the status is at the Etihad and talking of the league leaders, Raheem Sterling has broken into the top 10 after his early goal against Arsenal last Sunday.
The England forward shares joint eighth with Leicester's Jamie Vardy and they are both a point behind Grealish, while also being two points clear of a returning Marcus Rashford who rounds out the top 10.
In terms of the highest scoring defender, this is accolade that is currently bestowed to Aaron Cresswell of West Ham and with the left back possessing 120 points to his name, he is nine clear of Leeds' Stuart Dallas.
Did You Know?
Manchester City have won their last 13 matches (Premier League). What price they make it 14 when they play host to West Ham this weekend?
Manchester United are undefeated in their last 19 away matches (Premier League). That's the equivalent of a whole season's worth of away games, it's just a shame their home form has stopped them from mounting a genuine title challenge this season.
There have been under 2.5 goals scored in 13 of Fulham's last 15 games (Premier League). A statistic that signifies Fulham have become much tighter at the back and are launching their bid for survival at just the right time.
Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) has scored the most penalties in the Premier League this season, with 7. Something that will attribute to his current points lead in the individual stakes.
