Premier League GW26 Saturday 8th February 2020
We've reached the final third of the season and in football parlance it means we've reached the “business end” of the campaign. Usually this means two entities going head to head in a juggernaut of a title clash, unfortunately Liverpool have put paid to that with their unwavering dominance.
However, there is still going to be a relegation battle and it is one that should go all the way to the end, especially as the teams that occupy the bottom three places change with each week that passes.
This gameweek also brings about a winter break of sorts, which means the calendar is split over two weeks, but thankfully it is not an international hiatus and that means there will still be just enough Premier League football to digest
Not only that, but it also gives us the opportunity to offer up some more numerical musings and that means it is once again time for everyone's favourite statistical series. Yes, it is time for another serving of…
Did You Know?
Liverpool are now unbeaten in 42 Premier League matches and if you don't forget that football was not invented in 1992, that is currently the joint second longest unbeaten run in English league history.
Should they get the better of Norwich, that run obviously extends to 43 and from there, they will be just six matches away from equalling the great Arsenal side of the early 2000's. Although you get the feeling, that this Liverpool side are not going to be happy with stopping at only 49.
Not only that, but Liverpool have won their last their last 20 league matches at home equalling Manchester City's Premier League record. While only the Merseyside outfit under the tutelage of former manager Bill Shankly in 1972, have an even better record at fortress Anfield.
Liverpool have won 16 league matches in a row and they are two more from equalling Manchester City's current record of 18 straight victories. You would put money on them breaking that record and extending it to 19 before the end of the month.
Manchester City are undefeated in 31 of their last 34 home matches (Premier League). It's all very impressive but to be honest Pep Guardiola will just be eyeing up Champions League success this season and nothing else.
Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) has made the most key passes in the Premier League this season, with 88. Sunday was the perfect evidence of laying on perfect passes and the men in front of him not pulling the trigger when required, I guess the Belgian can only do so much.
There have been under 2.5 goals scored in Sheff Utd's last 9 games (Premier League). There's one for the betting fans and if there is ever a team to back with this particular outcome, then the Blades are the one.
Then again - There have been under 2.5 goals scored in 10 of Crystal Palace's last 12 games (Premier League). You could just as easily opt for the Eagles instead, especially as in their last outing they lost 1-0 to Sheffield United.
Vicente Guaita (Crystal Palace) has punched the ball clear the most times in the Premier League this season, with 18. Then again, if he punched it clear last weekend instead of carrying the ball over the line, Sheffield United would not have been gifted all three points.
Watford have failed to score in a match the most times in the Premier League this season, with 11. That doesn't make for great reading as far as Nigel Pearson is concerned, but you get the feeling that figure won't get too much higher between now and the end of the season.
Jefferson Lerma is the new Premier League bad boy in terms of discipline, he used to the player with the most yellow cards but he obviously thought ‘why stop there' and after getting sent off against Aston Villa. He has now racked up nine yellows and one sending off. Never put this man in your fantasy team.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) has made the most accurate crosses excluding corners in the Premier League this season, with 30. Put this man in your fantasy team.
