GW23 Stats - The Top Ten

Share post on:

Premier League GW23 Starts Saturday 6th February 2021

30 of the frantic 40 fixtures have been played in this breakneck section of the season and there's no opportunity to rest, as the final block of this fortnight double arrives on the horizon over the course of the next few days.

With so many fixtures in such a short space of time, starting elevens have resembled something of a rotating door and with the odd bit of tinkering here and there, it does have the potential to catch you out.

Then again, for those in the know, you can almost second guess what those in charge will do and it is perhaps the increased risk of injury, which could hamper your own hopes of winning a private mini-league or maybe even the overall title itself.

While although the real-life title race is edging towards one with just a single entrant, the race to be the highest points scorer is certainly heating up and with that in mind, here is a look at the current top 10 in the world of FPL.

It is once again all change at the top and with Manchester United putting nine unanswered goals past Southampton in midweek, it would have meant points being scored by the bucketload at Old Trafford.

While although Bruno Fernandes scored just one of the nine efforts that breached Southampton's net, he did at least pick up 17 points for his troubles and it is this tally, which has seen the Portuguese midfielder pull clear at the top of the table.

Fernandes has taken full advantage of either the inability of his rivals to score points or just picking up the bare minimum and with Mohamed Salah and Heung-min Son earning just two for their efforts in midweek, they have been seemingly left behind in second and third place, respectively.

With Harry Kane still out injured, his inactivity sees him rooted to fourth and on the evidence of Tottenham's recent offerings, his return cannot come soon enough. Then again, will it be soon enough for Jose Mourinho?

Jack Grealish has now taken fifth place for himself, as he moves one point clear of Patrick Bamford in sixth and with their efforts in midweek, they move further clear of an inactive Jamie Vardy in seventh.

With five points to his name in midweek, Callum Wilson solidifies his current eighth place standing and below him it is all change once again. Dominic Calvert-Lewin moves back into ninth place, a point clear of Emiliano Martinez who moves a place down to tenth (previously joint ninth).

In terms of the highest scoring defender at present, that accolade is now shared as Aaron Cresswell of West Ham and Ruben Dias of Manchester City both straddle top spot, with 97 points to their name.

Did You Know?

Manchester City have won their last 9 matches (Premier League). The big question is whether they can make it a perfect 10 on Sunday and if they do, you will have to think that Pep Guardiola's men will take a huge stride towards winning this season's edition of the Premier League.

Aston Villa have seen over 2.5 goals in 14 of their last 17 matches against Arsenal in all competitions. With Bernd Leno out suspended for the Gunners, there is every chance that we see more goals this weekend and that's before mentioning the talents of both Jack Grealish and Ross Barkley.

Liverpool are undefeated in their last 21 home matches against Man City in all competitions. Then again, Liverpool no longer have a fortress at Anfield and if the defeats to Burnley and Brighton have taught us anything, it is the fact that they can now be got at.

Leicester have had the fewest attempts from counter attacks in the Premier League this season, with 5. So much for Leicester being considered a counter attacking team, they've certainly evolved under Brendan Rodgers and now the target will certainly be a top four finish at the end of the season.
