The battle for the Champions League places has not only intensified, but also opened up and although there is the potential for fifth place to pay out a berth to Europe's premier club competition, both Chelsea and Tottenham would rather be safe than sorry.

That means the race for fourth is the focus and with the two crosstown rivals squaring off at Stamford Bridge this Saturday, this could be a game that potentially defines who next season plays their European football on Thursday nights.

Chelsea come into this game having just won once in their last six league outings and by comparison, Tottenham have picked up 10 points from the last 12 on offer, a run that has very much turned the tide for Jose Mourinho's men.

After a bright start to the campaign for the Blues, many are questioning whether Frank Lampard's young men have run out of steam and whether the failure to buy any new faces in January, is one that could backfire.

Tottenham added to their ranks last month, with Steven Bergwijn joining from PSV Eindhoven and after an impressive showing in his first two Premier League outings, he and his manager will be hoping for more of the same.

In fairness to Tottenham, this is more a do not lose game, rather than a must win encounter. However, with that said, Spurs will certainly be looking to go for the jugular against an ailing Chelsea and at odds of 4.00, an away win represents incredibly good value.

FOXES POUNCE ON MANCHESTER CITY

With Manchester City having to now deal with the very real threat of being expelled from the Champions League for the two seasons that follow the culmination of this, many will wonder if their focus will move away from the Premier League.

Before the fallout of UEFA's punishment, you could argue that Pep Guardiola's men had already put all their eggs in the European basket and now with them determined to make a mockery of the governing body which found against them, this could be a situation that plays into Leicester's hands.

There's already the interesting sub-plot that sees this being a game that could shape the battle to be the best of the rest and with Brendan Rodgers' men having drawn their last two outings, you get the feeling a win is soon on the cards.

While it could also be a battle for the Golden Boot as Jamie Vardy and Sergio Aguero are set to square off and with the former going through something of a goal drought at present, this could be the perfect game to return to the scoresheet.

At the same time, it could be that Manchester City now feel that they have a point to prove in every game that they take part. In doing so, it could galvanise a squad of star-studded talent, who in the past week have already been linked with a move away from the Etihad.

However, I think City will be found guilty of not giving their all at the King Power Stadium this weekend and with Leicester at odds of 4.50, this once again provides another great Premier League value bet.

LITTLE ENTERTAINMENT IN SOUTH LONDON

Crystal Palace have not won any of their last seven Premier League matches and with them also struggling in front of goal this season (they average just 0.88 goals per game), there is little to suggest that the visit of Newcastle this weekend will be a Selhurst Park goal fest.

Newcastle do look a functional outfit and if any performance highlighted their need for a forward who can score goals, it was the first 45 minutes of last Sunday's against Arsenal. However, failure to put the Gunners to the sword cost them dearly in the second half as they then capitualted.

After the interval they conceded four unanswered goals and to be honest you cannot see Crystal Palace doing the same this weekend. With that in mind, backing a total of Under 2.5 goals looks like your best bet.
