Fantasy MLS Tips Mondogoal Daily Fantasy Football Advice Round 21 July 11, 2015
For the purposes of this article, all prices and points are via our partners Mondogoal.
This week Mondogoal has provided us with multiple options to play for Fantasy MLS -- but the games being offered are all for Saturday matches. So we can throw out the outliers on Friday and Sunday and really focus in on the six matches that are taking place for Saturday the 11th of June. The contests currently available range from 10-man leagues to head to head matches, but be on the lookout for more offerings as these are filled.
The games we'll be looking at for Saturday are:
NYRB vs. New England
Philadelphia vs. Portland
Orlando vs. FC Dallas
Montreal vs. Columbus
Chicago vs. Seattle
Colorado vs. RSL
Here's what you need to focus on to make your team a success:
#1) GOALKEEPER AND DEFENDER TIPS
Seattle's
Troy Perkins ($6.2, GK) is a budget play, but he's also stepping in for the injured
Stefan Frei ($9.6, GK). Perkins doesn't typically see many minutes, so he's going to be looking at having another standout performance to get his name on the map once again. This looks to be a good matchup for Perkins since he's playing in Chicago, and Chicago have only managed one goal in their last three matches.
Truthfully, clean sheets are starting to dry up a bit as the season progresses, and all of these matches have the potential to have goals scored on both sides. Viewed through that lens, a cheaper goalkeeper is probably the way to go this week. If you wanted to pair a defender with Perkins, try
Tyrone Mears ($9.2, D). He's on the more expensive side, but he did score a goal in the run of play last week. Seattle have been struggling with their replacement options in attack lately, so they've been using players like Mears in different ways. Mears scored 12.45 points last round for owners, but even without the spike in scoring, he's still producing a healthy 6.89 PPG average.
In keeping with the theme of not having a ton of confidence in a likely clean sheet, look at
Jeff Attinella ($7.3, GK) for RSL. Attinella is stepping in for
Nick Rimando who is away on international duty, and he gets a favorable matchup this week in Colorado. Colorado have been shut out in three of their last five matches -- and even if they do manage a score, you'll be likely to the points for 1GA.
Tony Beltran ($7.7, D) is our pick to pair with Attinella this round. The defenseman scored 9.24 points in his last match and has an astounding 442 passes completed to lead all defenders on his team.
#2) MIDFIELDER TIPS
The best news for fantasy players is that
Diego Valeri ($11.2, M) is now fully healthy for Portland. For the longest time, Valeri had been given restricted minutes in his return from injury; but after playing the full 90 minutes this past week against San Jose, it looks like Valeri is a solid player to add to your lineup again. Valeri was able to give 11.2 points in his last outing and should look to build on that as he travels to Philly this weekend. Philly have allowed two goals in two of their last three home games, so there is a high probability that Portland, in their current form, will find the back of the net. However this game goes, Valeri will be at the center of Portland's attack pulling the strings.
Ignacio Piatti ($11.9, M) is coming off of back to back 17+ point performances, and he's really a must-have going into this week. Montreal are taking on a Columbus side that simply can't defend. Columbus's last three road matches have seen them allow a total of 7 goals, and they don't look like they're anywhere near being able to shut teams out at this point. Take Piatti and let your mind be at ease that his big price tag will be well worth it.
Take note that some of the other big names listed won't be available this weekend.
Clint Dempsey ($16.0, M) and
Marco Pappa ($12.1, M) are both away on international duty. And the biggest surprise of the week is
Kaka ($11.6, M) being sidelined due a suspension for his first straight-red card of his career.
#3) FORWARD TIPS
Kei Kamara ($11.1, F) had a very nice bounce-back game after his disappointing collapse the week before. Columbus will be playing against Montreal, and Montreal have had a terrible time defending in their last three matches. Kamara would ordinarily be a bit of a riskier proposition in a road fixture, but Montreal's struggles right now give a green light to pick him up this week.
Fabian Castillo ($9.4, F) is going to be one of Dallas's main attacking options until the Gold Cup is over. Dallas may be traveling to Orlando for this match, but Orlando will be without the services of Kaka and Cyle Larin. Given the loss of firepower for Orlando, Dallas should have no problems keeping the possession in Orlando's defensive third. Also note that Castillo has three straight games now with 10+ points. He's a steal this weekend at his price.
#4) BUDGET PLAYERS
Given the nature of the six games we get to choose from this week, there are a lot of budget players that can fill your roster. In fact, you may find it difficult to spend all of your allocated funds depending on the formation you choose. Be that as it may, you will still need some value-priced options to help you along the way.
Ethan Finlay ($7.7, F) is Columbus's newly minted scoring machine. In Finlay's last outing he had two goals en route to a 20.37 point performance. And that was a follow-up to his previous 12.31 points the round prior.
Pedro Ribeiro ($6.4, M) will be Orlando's first line of attack with the absence of Kaka and Larin this week. Given his price, he can be used to at least give you the potential for shots and a possible goal. His last outing saw him get 9.53 points for his owners.
NYRB's
Matt Miazga ($5.9, D) had a bit of a dip in his last game with 4.11 points. But in the games where he gets forward and has a shot on target, he can be fantasy gold. He's still averaging 7.67 PPG over his last three matches, and that's hard to beat.
