Fantasy MLS Tips Mondogoal Daily Fantasy Football Advice Round 20 July 3, 2015
For the purposes of this article, all prices and points are via our partners Mondogoal.
For this week, Mondogoal has again given us multiple options for the types of daily fantasy games we can play. You can choose from Friday and Saturday exclusive leagues, as well as leagues that combine the Saturday and Sunday matches. No matter how much of a stake you have, or how much time you want to spend following your team, we have you covered for advice from all angles.
Last week we hit a bit of a speed bump as Keane and Giovinco didn't quite perform up to snuff -- but that happens with all players. The trick is to diversify enough that a player on a downturn won't lose the entire match for you. We here at fplbet are feeling pretty good about this week, though. We have only two teams on bye weeks (Philly and SKC), and there are some clear-cut favorites in the team by team matchups we can work with. So let's get right into it and set your team up for a successful payout.
#1) GOALKEEPER AND DEFENDER TIPS
Stefan Frei ($9.3 - GK) has to be the first player we look at between the pipes. The Sounders will be playing at home against DC United -- and DC have proven that they're not really road warriors. In their last three matches, DC have only managed to score one goal while getting shutout twice. There really isn't any indication that this run of form will change for DC as they have been one of the more rotation heavy teams in the league. Couple that fact with Frei's 8 shutouts on the year, and you have a great chance at scoring points from this key position. If you want to pair a defender, try
Tyrone Mears ($8.4 - D). Mears was able to notch an assist in his last match and will be asked again to get forward as Seattle continue to play without Dempsey and Martins.
Adam Kwarasey ($7.2 - GK) is probably a real steal given his price for his match coming up. The Portland Timbers will play at home against San Jose -- and Kwarasey has three shutouts in his last four home fixtures. San Jose will be without their key man Wondolowski, who was called up for international duty. Portland will also be getting back their central defender
Liam Ridgewell ($6.8 - D) who should help to square up the Timbers' defense with
Nat Borchers ($7.2 - D). All of these conditions combined should equal a dominant Portland performance out of the back.
#2) MIDFIELDER TIPS
Javier Morales ($12.6 - M) should be looking to get his form back this week after sitting out from his red card suspension. Morales was back in action midweek and scored a goal for RSL in their Cup match. Morales has the talent to score, that's not a doubt. But after a week on the sidelines, it appears he also has the motivation to play hard and get back on the score sheet. The RSL striker situation is in a bit of flux with
Alvaro Saborio ($8.5 - F) falling out of favor. So look for Morales to continue to take the reigns of the offense.
Darlington Nagbe ($11.6 - M) had himself quite a game with 19.05 points in his last outing. The Portland playmaker has been denied scoring chances for the better part of the year with his team in constant rotation to cover injured players. Now that the Timbers are fully healthy, Nagbe was able to find space and provide a goal and an assist in a superb effort against Seattle. Nagbe is still the most fouled player in the league, so his Fouls Won stat will continue to pad your points -- but if Nagbe is being asked to take shots from just beyond the box...he could be one of the most dangerous daily fantasy options available to you.
Ignacio Piatti ($10.9 - M) had himself a bounce-back game in his last appearance by scoring 17 points for fantasy owners. Piatti is simply a better player at home, and Montreal will be entertaining NYCFC this weekend. NYCFC have such a serious problem with keeping a clean sheet that it's hard to look past Piatti as a real contender to get on the scoresheet again this week.
#3) FORWARD TIPS
Fanendo Adi ($7.8 - F) has found his form just like Darlington Nagbe. Adi had problems with rotation benchings due to the Timbers trying to find a working system while
Diego Valeri ($11.2 - M) was out. Now that Valeri is back as the attacking midfielder, Adi is once again slotted in his complete forward role. And the results last week were nothing short of outstanding with Adi scoring a pair of goals and rewarding owners with 21.43 points.
Robbie Keane ($11.3 - F) left a sour taste in the mouths of many who picked him up last week after posting a score of 4.4 points. But Keane is due for a better effort this game as Toronto FC are flying across the continent to play in LA. Toronto are not a stout defensive side, and they are also the team hardest hit by the Gold Cup call-ups. Toronto are losing five players this week, and LA will look to really punish the team in a bit of crisis.
David Villa ($9.2 - F) is on the road to Montreal this week - but Villa isn't really as affected by the road games as other players are. In Villa's last road match he posted a score of 23.31 points, so he can be depended upon to produce when not at home. Also important to note, three matches ago NYCFC played against Montreal and Villa was able to score 22.88 points in that match. If Villa has figured something out against Montreal, you can bet he'll look to exploit that same weakness again this match.
#4) BUDGET PLAYER TIPS
The superstar players are the players that get you in the money. But the better differential picks are the deciding factor between claiming first place and third in your daily league. No matter which route you go in deciding your star players, you need some great value-priced talent to push you over the edge.
Starting with
Will Bruin ($6.7 - F), you only need to know that Bruin is a superstar when he's playing at home. Bruin has scored two goals in each of his last two home matches -- and this fact is even more stark when you compare it to his dismal production on the road. Bruin has scored 1.3 points combined in his last two away matches -- a score so low it's embarrassing. But his last two scores while at home? 21.43 and 19.02 points. Maybe he really loves home cooking, but the facts are the facts.
Ethan Finlay ($7.0 - F) is listed out of position in our opinion, but for his price, he's a good earner. Finlay is getting more into the attack than he was early in the year. Finlay has an assist in each of his last three matches, and he was also able to nab a goal in his last appearance. While teams are really marking Kei Kamara ($10.1 - F), Finlay has found a bit of space to operate and really contribute to the final score.
Sebastian Lleget ($7.1 - M) has finally seen his price jump. But even at $7.1, he's a steal for the production that he's putting out for LA. He's still averaging over 11 points per match over his last four games. With LA losing a few players to the Gold Cup, Lleget could see his workload increase even more.
Matt Miazga ($6.0 - D) had himself quite a game in his last outing with a goal. Even despite the score, Miazga has managed to put a shot on target in two consecutive games and has posted scores of 13.01 and 5.9 points. The defender is seeing a rise in form and could provide some attacking stats to your squad against Columbus this week.
#5) The Gold Cup
It's important to remember that just because Mondogoal shows each player on a team, not every player will be available for their clubs this week. The Gold Cup has taken many international stars -- and you should familiarize yourself with who is and isn't playing in league matches this weekend. Some notable stars include:
Michael Bradley, Omar Gonzalez, Gyasi Zardes, Jozy Altidore, Jaime Penedo and Nick Rimando. For a full list, check the MLS website
