NaturalFootballFan returns with his latest Ligue 1 Fantasy Football Tips for the weekend's contests at
Mondogoal.
We move onto Gameweek 17 and without Paris Saint-Germain's involvement, the playing field is very open for
Mondogoal. Lyon kick-start Saturday's action in what looks a must-win tie, if they are to have any chance of holding down a top 4 position. The night is rounded off with an enticing encounter between Toulouse and Lorient, which has goals written all over it. Meanwhile on Sunday; Marseille aim to rejuvenate their season at home to Montpellier, whilst Bordeaux and Guingamp fight for breathing space above the relegation zone.
With our partners at

Goalkeeper Tips
Saturday:
Lyon were involved in a dismal no-score draw in midweek vs. Nantes and, we feel, they are again the best shout for a cleansheet on Saturday.
Anthony Lopes (6.6m) is expected to return from injury this time out, for the first league meeting between the two clubs. With Lyon's early kick-off in mind, be sure to take advantage of the revealed lineup to see who starts between the sticks. The home side have secured 4 cleansheets in their last 6 league matches, while their opposition, Angers, have managed an impressive 13 cleansheets in their last 19 league fixtures. Both sides have demonstrated defensive solidarity in recent weeks, but in this situation, we will always back the team with home advantage.
Sunday:
The most popular goalkeeper choice for Sunday will be Steve Mandanda of Marseille, however, we think
Benoit Costil (6.9m) provides a better alternative on
Mondogoal. Rennes have been comfortable away from home and are unbeaten since the opening day of the season, on the road. The last 3 meetings between these sides have ended in disappointing goalless draws, so more of the same would be good news for Costil owners.
Defender Tips
Saturday:
Our first choice to fill a defensive slot on Saturday is marauding left-back
Henri Bedimo (7.8m). Lyon's backline is currently suffering with 3 of their 4 regular starters missing out through injury. This will perhaps, put off the majority of
Mondogoal managers, however, they have actually looked a more solid outfit following this reshuffle. A quick glance at the bookies odds backs this statement up; they are clear front-runners for a cleansheet this weekend. Bedimo is guaranteed to start on the left flank and with his attacking potential could prove a brilliant differential - the Cameroonian has contributed with 13 assists since joining Lyon in 2013. With his manager's preference of selecting 3 central midfielders in a narrow 4-3-1-2 formation, Bedimo is required to provide the width and with Beauvue and Lacazette ready to pounce in the middle, he might well add another assist to his collection.
Sunday:
For Sunday, we have a couple of players who offer contrasting styles, but similar outputs for Marseille. The first option is
Mauricio Isla (8.3m), he will continue in a central midfield role after impressing midweek, with an assist and 14.89 points on
Mondogoal. Playing his International trade for Chile you would expect Isla to be rash and aggressive in the challenge, but surprisingly, in Ligue 1 this season, Isla has committed an extremely low average of 0.3 fouls per game and is yet to receive a card. Partnered alongside either Diarra or Ramao, who are both defensive minded midfielders, gives Isla license to bomb forward and whip in some of his quality crosses. We also fancy Marseille for a cleansheet, so that's an added bonus. The second option we had in mind for Marseille was left-back
Benjamin Mendy (6.9m). The 21-year-old is very much a hit or miss defender; he will either give away a handful of fouls and receive a booking or grab an assist and 10 plus points on
Mondogoal. Mendy boasts an average of 1.7 key passes and the same number of dribbles per game, in all competitions this season. These are impressive stats for a defender. Both players are great options, but at the end of the day it's YOUR decision that counts.
Attacking Potential

- Reims
- Lyon
- Ajaccio

Midfielder Tips
Saturday:
Moving into the midfield creates another selection headache. Without PSG's involvement, the list of players worth considering has lengthened; nevertheless, the player who has come up triumphs and wins our recommended spot is
Bernardo Silva (9m). The creative midfielder has left us disappointed on more than one occasion this season, however, during midweek he looked sharp; a bit more like his former self. Silva's stats suit
Mondogoal's scoring system well, in that he is a ‘foul magnet' (winning 2.6 per match), can carve out opportunities for teammates (1.1 key passes per game) and has even scored 3 Ligue 1 goals in this campaign. Monaco are undefeated against Bastia in 11 of their last 12 meetings and are expected to control possession. Silva's teammates attempt to pass him the ball at every opportunity, so expect the Portuguese International to be involved at the heart of things.
Sunday:
George-Kevin NKoudou (9.2m) is our pick for Sunday. It's only been in the last couple of months that the winger has established himself as a regular starter and with 5 goals in his last 6 appearances, Nkoudou is now one of the first names on the team-sheet. Similar to Di Maria, in that he contributes consistently with goals from midfield, the 20-year-old is a safe bet for
Mondogoal and we would select him even if he were classified as a striker. Marseille have moved into the top 10 for the first time since Michel took over in August and now will look to target the top 4. L'OM have won 6 of their last 8 matches in all competition and Nkoudou has been directly involved (goal or assist) in 7 of their last 10. The youngster has definitely made a name for himself and will most likely progress from the Under 21's French squad in the near future.
Forward Tips
Saturday:
Without ‘the usual suspect' Zlatan Ibrahimovic featuring in this slot, the chance has arisen for someone else to take over the reigns this weekend. The player we feel is most likely to step up to the plate on Saturday is
Nicolas De Preville (6.6m). The Reims forward is almost 3 times cheaper than Ibrahimovic on
Mondogoal, but his points potential for the weekend is massive. Reims host rock-bottom of the table Troyes in an encounter where the home side are projected to score a couple of goals, at least. Troyes are still without a win this season and Reims will show no remorse vs. their local rivals. De Preville leads his club's rankings for goals (3), assists (3) shots on target (2.1 per game), key passes (1.3 per game), dribbles (2.2 per game) fouls won (2.7 per game). Taking these statistics into consideration, as well as the favorable fixture; De Preville appears the ‘must have' forward on
Mondogoal.
Sunday:
Our final tip of the weekend is Marseille's talisman,
Michy Batshuayi (11.2m). After struggling for game time last season, the Belgian forward has become an ever-present figure this year and has played more minutes (1359) and scored more goals (10) than any of his outfield teammates, in Ligue 1 this season. Batshuayi has contributed to 42% of his side's goals and the outcome of their matches is largely dependent on his form. He averages 10.75 points per game on
Mondogoal and has had 13 shots on target in his last 4 matches. Batshuayi, with his direct style, will always provide a ‘high floor' on Mondogoal, he is on penalty duty and with 4 goals in his last 5 matches, his confidence is sky high. Don't even think about ignoring him... you will regret it!
