Under the Radar Stealth Picks for FPL Gameweek 3

Share post on:
By FPL JERR Moving on from last weeks main focus on defensive low/mid-tier assets, and James Maddison, this week we focus upon midfield assets who may be being overlooked what with the mass transfers in of Mane, Mkhi and Hazard (in that field). With a lot of wildcards expected to be played in and around the time of the first Wildcard, the next two gameweeks become pivotal in getting in players ahead of prospective price changes. Although prices are not effected by wildcard transfers, the international break will mark an uptick in team changes as many managers will be forced into changing their teams around. Great fixture runs for Arsenal, Man City and Everton should be noted. With this in mind, some under the radar defensive picks have been added to this list.

David Brooks 5.0m

Bournemouth Eve, Che, Lei. Standing in, or so it seems, for the injured Stanislas; Brooks has made quite an impression for an early season Bournemouth who are showing a good run of form. Taking advantage of a favourable fixturelist, Brooks has taken as many shots as Harry Kane and his movement (coming in from the right) has often seen him overlap with King (dropping deep to collect play) seeing Brooks become an auxiliary striker. Adding to his 6 shots he has also contributed to 1 big chance created in his 2 matches so far. Although a rotation risk with the aforementioned Stanislas and other Bournemouth attacking options, the American could be quite the differential with Bournemouth's upcoming fixtures.

Dele Alli 9.1m

Spurs Mun, Wat, Liv With ‘tricky' fixtures ahead, many will be ignoring Alli for Eriksen and Kane in terms of attacking Spurs assets. But playing against a potentially implosive Manchester United and contributing a goal and assist already this season, Alli could be set to add more points to the board. Significantly, his defensive play has been at note for Spurs, not impacting his goal return and also adding to his BPS (2 so far) his overall contribution has been well noted. Contributing to 150 touches so far (more than Kante and just short of Eriksen) Alli is pitching in all over for an attacking asset and with classically bad fixtures ahead he could be a differential.

Theo Walcott 6.5m

Everton Bou, Hud, Whu Richarlison, yes, has been amazing. But slipping under the Radar has been Theo Walcott. His position looks moderately safe on the right flank, with Bernard expected to rotate with Sigurdsson and Lookman falling out with Marco Silva. With a great fixture list ahead and other 6.5m assets, namely Jota, failing, he could provide a great opportunity for an Everton double up without risking a defensive slot, on what has so far seemed a porous defence. With as many shots as Kane, 6, and 20 successful final third passes, Walcott could help provide the insurance needed for managers wanting to cover Everton's potential points spread.

John Stones 5.5m

Man City Wol, New, Ful Aguero, Mendy, Bernardo, Ederson, Silva, Sane, Sterling, Mahrez, Jesus… There are a lot of City options right now, but with their fantastic fixture list both pre and post international break defensive cover could be a smart way to go (what with so many attacking assets potentially sharing points). John Stones, who in the words of Pep ‘Could cover in midfield' has started the season well for City. Operating in a back four which in the first game became a back 3, he has moved forward through the lines and made the most forward passes of any City player in their victory against Huddersfield. An ever present threat from set pieces and more likely to get game time due to his good start and positional flexibility, Stones has already notched up 47 BPS across 2 games giving him 2 BPS already as we go into GW3.

Hector Bellerin 5.5m

Arsenal Whu, Car, New Arsenal do not play a top 6 club until the 3rd November. This run has them play 2 promoted sides and home games against West Ham, Watford, Leicester and Everton. With injuries to Nelson and Kolasinac and Monreal only just returning from Injury; Emery's usual fullback rotation could be dented. This is where Bellerin can come in. Arsenal have yet to really show their hand this season, with difficult opening games against the last 2 champions of the league, so managers are wary of their defensive acumen. With most managers looking at Aubameyang and Mkhi for this run, a sensible choice could be going defensive. Bellerin, one of the fastest and most attacking defenders in the game could see plenty of overlaps in Emery's system and could contribute both in attack and defence for the Gunners.
