Gameweek 36 Captain Tips

fplhollyFPL Holly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for Gameweek 36. Her Clueless Husband is getting serious for the business end of the season and finally comes up with a credible reason for an armband pick: read on for more! As the season reaches its close, the captain decision becomes difficult due to a variety of reasons: some teams have very little to play for, away performances can be underwhelming and some are focusing on success in other competitions. There's six options to choose from this week, as I attempt to make sense of it all for you!

Shield Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Stoke (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 1/2 There's no denying that Mo Salah is the safe pick this week and if there's early team news, many will lock the armband on him (if you haven't shipped him in the quest to make up ground!). Be warned though, he was on the bench for the reverse fixture and came on to score a brace! He may be rotated and keep an eye on his output in the Champions League. He's on penalties and has the highest ownership in the game, so will you stick with the shield pick?

Sword Pick: Harry Kane vs Watford (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 2/5 Harry Kane has been woeful since returning from injury, but a home fixture against weak defensive opposition is tempting. Harry is chasing the golden boot and he's on penalties. Spurs need to bounce back since being knocked out of the FA Cup and they are known for finishing the season strongly. Will you go against Salah, by choosing his golden boot rival?

Form Pick: Chrisitan Eriksen vs Watford (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 13/10 If you fancy the Spurs fixture but don't trust Kane, Eriksen could be the ideal candidate. He's got the best form of all FPL players, with 4 goals in his last 4 games. I imagine he'll be laying chances on a plate for Harry Kane. Watford should be easy opposition since they are pretty much safe and so have very little motivation. Are you going to select the form pick?

Fixture Pick: Sadio Mane vs Stoke (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 7/5 Liverpool have a strong fixture against Stoke at home and Mane got a goal and an assist in the reverse fixture. He is another rotation risk due to Champions League involvement and Stoke will try to hold strong as they attempt to battle relegation. Liverpool are so strong at Anfield though and Mane is likely to be in the goals given his current form. Will you opt for the fixture pick?

Punt Pick: Gabriel Jesus vs West Ham (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 10/11 Away fixtures are tricky to predict at this stage of the season, as City don't have the audience to perform for and rotation could hit. However, Jesus seems the most likely to gain a start, since Aguero is out injured. His form is strong, with 3 goals and 3 assists over his last five games. He got an assist in the reverse fixture, but he won't be on penalties after that miss last weekend. Are you taking a punt on Jesus?

Park the Bus Pick: James Tarkowski vs Brighton (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 16/1 Clean Sheet Odds: 7/5 Brighton don't score many goals away from home, so those infamous Burnley clean sheets could rain in this weekend. Brighton haven't played for over a week and are almost mathematically safe, so it's unlikely they'll be going all out. Burnley will look for a strong performance in their quest for Europa League qualification and Tarkowski got an assist last week. Are you brave enough to captain a defender?

Clueless Husband Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Stoke (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 1/2 Now ranked inside the top 50k, my Clueless Husband is taking the captaincy decision seriously for a change! He is going for Salah as “He scores loads of goals. He needs to confirm the golden boot and I don't like Harry Kane”. Well there you have it! Coming up next week will be the Clueless Husband Triple Captain choice, so watch this space!
