Gameweek 34 Captain Tips

Share post on:
fplhollyFPLHolly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for DOUBLE Gameweek 34. There's six options to consider, plus the infamous Clueless Husband selection. Gameweek 33 was nothing short of a disaster for many managers, with the average down at just 32 points. Kane and Lukaku blanked, but there were returns for those who went for the Shield pick, as Aubameyang got his goal! Our punt pick, Luka Milivojevic also returned on his birthday with a cracking free kick. A double gameweek is here to relieve all the pain, with eight teams having two fixtures this week! The downside is that Manchester United, Spurs, Chelsea and Southampton also have their FA Cup semi finals at the weekend, so rotation could hit! All of this weeks captain candidates are from teams with a double gameweek. Could it be time to unleash the Triple Captain chip? A couple of premium options have caught our eye, but the fixtures in Double Gameweek 37 could prove to have better potential.

Shield Pick: Romelu Lukaku vs West Brom (H), Bournemouth (A)

Lukaku loves playing against weaker opposition and the fixtures don't get to look much better than this. He is performing consistently right now, with just two blanks in his last 10 games, which came away at Spurs and Man City. He has 5 goals and 3 assists during this spell. He looks likely to be the most captained for the double gameweek and scored a goal in the reverse fixtures against these teams. His record against these teams is excellent: in 6 appearances against Bournemouth he has 7 goals and in 8 appearances against West Brom he has 5 goals and 3 assists. He's definitely the safest bet for your captain this week and could be a worthy candidate for the Triple Captain chip also.

Sword Pick: Harry Kane vs Manchester City (H), Brighton (A)

There's been controversy all week, but Harry Kane is certainly hungry for the golden boot. The fixtures could be a little better, although I still expect Kane to fire. He hasn't blanked in four consecutive games this season, so he's definitely due a goal. City have been in turmoil over the last few games, so there's certainly potential for Kane to capitalise, while City struggle to get over the line. Kane is just back from injury, so there is a small chance that his minutes could be reduced. He's an ideal sword pick and is on penalties too, but the Triple Captain might be a stretch too far: wait until Gameweek 37 for improved fixtures.

Form Pick: Alexis Sanchez vs West Brom (H), Bournemouth (A)

Alexis Sanchez has the best form of all FPL players, with one goal and four assists in his last four games. He's certainly starting to gel at Manchester United and he has a good reputation for strong scores in double gameweeks. He could be a relative differential for the armband and he already has two assists against West Brom this season. The opposition are weak defensively, each with just one clean sheet this year. If you're chasing in mini leagues, consider unleashing the Triple Captain chip on Alexis this week.

Fixture Pick: Jamie Vardy vs Burnley (A), Southampton (H)

Jamie Vardy is another man in form, having scored in each of his last three games. His consistency makes him an ideal captain candidate, plus he has penalties in his locker too. His form makes him a better option than Mahrez and since Leicester don't play again until Gameweek 36, his minutes are secure. Southampton and Burnley have been conceding regularly recently, with just one clean sheet apiece in 2018. Will you opt for the fixture pick?

Punt Pick: Eden Hazard vs Southampton (A), Burnley (H)

Hazard is out of form and Chelsea are struggling, but Eden is a world class player and has a high points potential this week. As mentioned previously, Southampton and Burnley are capable of conceding goals and Chelsea are under pressure to get some decent results this week, in their quest for the top 4. Hazard is on penalties and is unlikely to be rotated, despite FA Cup semi finals coming up on Sunday. Are you going to take a punt?

Park the Bus Pick: David De Gea vs West Brom (H), Burnley (A)

De Gea is having his best season ever and is well in the running for the Golden Glove. Expect more clean sheets this week, since West Brom and Burnley aren't known for being the most attacking of sides. De Gea hasn't featured for Manchester United yet in the FA Cup, so 180 minutes this week looks certain in the Premier League. A pair of clean sheets and some save points could leave you with 20+ captain points. Are you brave enough?

Clueless Husband Pick: Christian Eriksen vs Manchester City (H), Brighton (A)

After hearing me bang on about my Harry Kane captain not being given points for the goal last weekend, my Clueless Husband has been feeling smug about Eriksen being a profitable transfer in with a brace. This week he is getting the captain armband. Eriksen is in form, with either a goal or an assist in his last three games. He also returned in each of the reverse fixtures. It looks to be a strong choice: will you be siding with my Clueless Husband? Until Next Week… Good Luck! Holly. Follow Holly for more FPL insight...
