Gameweek 28 Captain Tips

Share post on:

fplhollyFPLHolly is back fresh from the Cup break with her selection of captain picks for Gameweek 28. Her Clueless Husband also returns, finally revealing his selection following some intriguing Twitter clues.

Gameweek 27 seems a long time ago now, I've been on a high from that four goal thriller provided by Sergio Aguero! Did you follow my lead and go with the fixture pick? He was a relative differential, compared to Salah and Kane. In stark contrast to Gameweek 26, plenty of the fancied players returned fantasy points. However, there's an important lesson to be learnt here: the point differential between a single fantasy return and an explosive performance. Are you in on my secret pattern yet?

The Gameweek 28 captaincy pick is both challenging and straightforward. The pool of players to choose from is depleted since Manchester United play Chelsea and Arsenal host Manchester City. Despite this, Liverpool and Spurs have particularly enticing fixtures and there's a plethora of options from these sides.

Shield/Reverse Pick: Mohammed Salah vs West Ham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 4/7

So good that I've picked him twice?! The obvious choice this week has to be Mo Salah. If you have serious ground to make up, then there's an argument to look elsewhere in the Liverpool front three, but Salah really should be your man this week. There's no need to read ahead! He is the most owned player in the game and will be the most captained by some margin this time out. His home form is blistering, with scores of 14, 11 and 15 in his last three matches at Anfield. He has returned in four of his last 5 games, with 5 goals in that period. He's also the reverse pick for this week: he led the Gameweek 11 dream team with 15 points. You know what to do, give Salah your armband again this week!

Sword Pick: Harry Kane vs Crystal Palace (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 7/10

If you're insistent in looking for a captain away from Anfield, then Harry Kane has to be the best of the rest. He looks to be over the injury that yellow flagged him late last week, scoring in the FA Cup draw at Rochdale. Kane has returns in 4 of his last 5 games, scoring in each of his last 3 away games. He isn't as consistent as Salah, but he has the potential to explode. He has two goals and two assists in 9 appearances against the Eagles and is always in the mix for a penalty conversion. If you've ground to make up, go with the sword pick this time!

Form Pick: Sergio Aguero vs Arsenal (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 17/20

I fully intended to ditch Aguero from the article this week, but he has the best form of all players in the game, so he keeps his place. His feature is well deserved, off the back of that massive 21 point total against Leicester. Aguero's form is incredible, just one blank in 6 games, having scored 9 and assisted 1 in that time. The cons are obvious: Jesus is back in contention and they've a cup final post deadline. I still think Aguero will get the higher minutes in the Premier League of the City forwards, since he is chasing the golden boot. Use caution on this week's form pick though.

Fixture Pick: Sadio Mane vs West Ham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 11/10

It has to be a Liverpool player for the fixture pick, against a West Ham team that have one clean sheet in ten and were beaten 4-1 at home. Sadio Mane has emerged back into our thinking after that impressive hat trick against Porto in the Champions League. He tends to go on scoring streaks and he looks to be back in the hot zone. Mane got 2 assists back in the reverse fixture and in 5 appearances against the Hammers he has 3 goals and 2 assists. This is the ideal time to take a gamble if you're chasing, to make up ground on the Salah captainers. Will you go with the fixture pick?

Punt Pick: Jamie Vardy vs Stoke (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 21/20

Vardy has been going about his business quietly and consistently. His goal in the FA Cup takes him to 5 goals in his last 5 appearances, in all competitions. He is boosted by the return of Mahrez, he's on penalties and has scored in his last three home games. This upturn in form could boost his chances of featuring heavily for England in the World Cup, so expect him to continue in the season run in. Are you going to take a captaincy risk this week?

Park the Bus Pick: Ben Mee vs Southampton (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 12/1

Clean Sheet Odds: 17/10

The defensive pick was a really difficult one this week: no clubs are showing any defensive reliability right now and this is compounded by challenging fixtures. I fancy Burnley for a 1-0 win here and Ben Mee is more than capable of getting on the score sheet, he is a constant aerial threat from set pieces. Mee is a bonus point magnet and he scored 8 points when Burnley travelled to St. Mary's earlier in this season. Burnley are due a clean sheet: will you be brave enough to captain a defender?

Clueless Husband Pick: Roberto Firmino vs West Ham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 3/4

My Clueless Husband now has his own Twitter account, so make sure you follow him for hilarious captain clues and other clueless nonsense. Many of you have been guessing his latest captain pick over the weekend, with some going for Firmino. Well done! This “Take Me Out” inspired, Gok Wan lookalike pick, is a very credible option. Firmino has three goals and two assists in his last 5 games and the pick of the fixtures. My Husband doesn't own Salah and had good success with Firmino last time out, so is sticking against the Hammers. Are you going to side with the latest pick?

Until Next Week…
Good Luck!

Holly.
