Gameweek 15 Captain Picks

Share post on:
FPL Holly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for Gameweek 15. It's the first round of midweek games this season, with the deadline coming at 18:45 on Tuesday 4th December: don't miss it! Gameweek 14 was a real struggle for many managers: Aguero was rested with a slight knock, Hazard left it late to deliver a meagre assist against Fulham, Sterling shone for City once more, while Salah struggled in the Merseyside derby. It's a quick turnaround for Gameweek 15 which makes the captain decision incredibly problematic. There's plenty of sound options on paper but the big issue is how many of these players will be in the squad, starting and with significant minutes? It's really important to choose wisely, including a Vice Captain option who's guaranteed to play: perhaps look to a more challenging fixture to secure this?

Shield Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Burnley (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 3/5 Liverpool look to have the pick of the fixtures on paper: Burnley are one of the worst teams defensively in the Premier League this season, conceding 29 goals and allowing plenty of big chances. Salah has regained form this season with 4 goals and 2 assists in his last 6 games, including away goals against Watford and Huddersfield. With Milner seeing regular rotation, Salah may also be on penalties too. The issue here is rotation: Salah has started the last 3, with some high energy games against PSG and Everton, but an early substitution means a start against Burnley is encouraging. He was rested in an easy festive midweek game last season, but did come on as a substitute to score a brace. His high ownership means he's likely to be the most captained for Gameweek 15: will you play safe with the shield pick?

Sword Pick: Harry Kane vs Southampton (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 8/15 Harry Kane looks to be the most guaranteed starter for Gameweek 15: Pochettino rarely gives his star man a rest and the fixture looks great: he scored a hat trick when Spurs won this game 5-2 last season. Kane has returned in each of his last 4 games, with 3 goals and 1 assist: he also has penalties to boost his points. Saints away form is poor, they've conceded 10 goals in their last 4 games. The downside for giving Kane the captains armband is that he rarely produces double digit scores nowadays. However, if you're looking for a nailed on captain for Gameweek 15, you could do much worse than this weeks Shield pick.

Form Pick: Raheem Sterling vs Watford (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: Evens Raheem Sterling has the best form of all players in the game, with 4 goals and 5 assists in his last 5 appearances, including a goal and 3 assists in recent away games. He could be due a rest, having played the last three games for Manchester City, but he perhaps provides a little less risk as he hasn't featured as a substitute in the two games he has been rested for. Chelsea are up next for City in Gameweek 16. He scored in both of the games against Watford last season. Are you going with the form pick?

Fixture Pick: Sergio Aguero vs Watford (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 13/20 Sergio Aguero is currently yellow flagged, but the prognosis of him recovering from the slight knock that kept him out of the Bournemouth game sounds promising. His away form has been patchy, but he does have 3 goals and 2 assists in his last 3 Premier League starts. He and City love playing Watford: the results of this fixture in the last two seasons have been 5-0 and 6-0 to City, with Aguero contributing 5 goals and 2 assists. He also has penalties too. Rotation is always a risk where Pep is concerned, so he may not be risked, but he could be worth the gamble here. Watford have conceded 5 goals in their last 2 games. Will you opt for the fixture pick?

Punt Pick: Anthony Martial vs Arsenal (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 8/5 Martial celebrates his birthday on Wednesday and should be fired up for the visit of Arsenal to Old Trafford. He was a substitute in their disappointing draw to Southampton and Jose will be expecting a reaction in this one. Martial has 6 goals in his last 6 starts. Meanwhile, Arsenal have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 8 games. Are you going to take the punt?

Park the Bus Pick: Andrew Robertson v Burnley (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 12-1 Clean Sheet Odds: 17/20 Again it's a selection which carries a rotation risk: Liverpool have one of the best defences in the Premier League, keeping 9 clean sheets to date. Meanwhile, Burnley's attacking record isn't great, scoring just 13 goals this season. Their defence is poor, which provides hope of attacking returns for Liverpool's flying full-back: he has 3 assists and 13 bonus points this season. Are you brave enough to captain a defender?

Clueless Husband Pick: Shane Duffy vs Crystal Palace (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 8/1 Clean Sheet Odds: 8/5 Finally, the Clueless Husband has selected pop star Duffy, following her 10-point haul against Huddersfield last time around. Are you begging me for mercy? A home game against Crystal Palace looks promising for Brighton to keep their fourth clean sheet of the season: the Eagles have just one away goal in their last 3. Duffy may be able to contribute yet another attacking return this season, with 3 goals and 2 assists already, plus 13 bonus points. He looks nailed on for a start at least.
