Gameweek 4 Captain Tips

Share post on:
FPL Holly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for Gameweek 4. There's plenty of strong options, with none of last seasons “Top 6” meeting. Could it be time to deploy the Triple Captain chip already? Gameweek 3 was very disappointing when it came to the captains armband, with just the Shield and Bus picks returning. Mohammed Salah remains consistent though and Harry Kane is now back on the radar as a captain candidate! With many of the top teams facing a run of favourable fixtures, the armband challenge will continue to confuse us. But fear not, I'm here to make sense of it all!

Shield Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Leicester (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 7/10 Mo Salah is providing FPL managers with consistent returns for another season; he's one of only 4 players to return in every game so far. With his ownership currently at 55%, he looks to be the most popular option again this week. The fixture doesn't look amazing on paper, with a tricky away trip to Leicester. However, Salah got 3 goals in 2 games against them last season and Leicester have conceded 3 goals in 3 games. There are rumours circulating that Klopp may rotate this week, with Salah potentially playing as the central striker. If you want to maintain a strong rank and stay safe in the pack, go for the Shield Pick this week!

Sword Pick: Sergio Aguero vs Newcastle (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 2/5 Aguero faces his favourite opponent this week: he's scored 14 goals against Newcastle during his career, with many of those coming in home games at the Etihad. A blank against Wolves last week may deter managers from giving him the armband this week, which will make him more of a differential. Aguero was very unlucky not to to return against Wolves, he's now hit the woodwork 3 times in 3 games! Newcastle haven't had the best start to the season, conceding 4 goals in 3 games. His home record is excellent, scoring a hat trick in his only home game this season. He should be on penalties too. I'll have the armband on Aguero this week, are you going with the sword pick too? A note on the Triple Captain chip: while the chip has most potential in a Double Gameweek, this fixture is among the best of the rest. It's still early in the season, but if you don't want to save the chip for a DGW, now could be the ideal time to deploy. It's certainly something that I'm considering.

Form Pick: Harry Kane vs Watford (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 4/6 Harry Kane is starting to hit form: he's obliterated the August curse, with 2 goals and 1 assist in his last 3 games, including strong returns in a tough fixture away to Manchester United. Kane has penalties too, which further increases his appeal. His underlying statistics are still down on last season, with far less shots than Salah and Aguero. His record against Watford is reasonable, with 4 goals and 2 assists in 6 appearances. Will you opt for the form pick?

Fixture Pick: David Silva vs Newcastle (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 13/8 Newcastle are expected to have a tough time of things at the Etihad this weekend, with David Silva looking like the most promising option in the support role for Aguero. He should see regular gametime with De Bruyne out injured and has a share of set piece duties. His statistics are strong, with 6 attempted assists in the last home game against Huddersfield, as well as that special free kick. In 12 Premier League appearances against the Magpies, Silva has 5 goals and 4 assists. Are you going for the fixture pick?

Punt Pick: Theo Walcott vs Huddersfield (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 7/4 Walcott is the biggest bandwagon of the season so far, with many managers selecting him as a straight swap for the banned Richarlison. He's even a worthy armband candidate this week, with a home game against a Huddersfield side who've the worse defensive record in the Premier League: they've conceded 9 goals in 3 games. Walcott is central to Everton's attacks, with two goals and an assist in his last two games. Will you take the punt?

Park the Bus Pick: Marcos Alonso vs Bournemouth (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 13/5 Clean Sheet Odds: Evens Marcos Alonso has had a phenomenal start to the Premier League season, leading the overall points standings. With 3 double digit returns, he's a strong option this week. Clean sheets may be challenging against an attacking Bournemouth side, but attacking returns are promising: he's already managed 1 goal and 4 assists. In 4 previous appearances against the Cherries, Alonso has contributed towards two clean sheets. Are you brave enough to captain a defender?

Clueless Husband Pick: Helder Costa vs West Ham (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 11/4 When asked for his selection this week, the Clueless Husband commented “That bloke that played in the first match. He went past loads of people.” We eventually narrowed this down to be Costa, who passed the eye test against Manchester City last weekend. He's an unlikely candidate but the fixture is strong, West Ham have conceded 9 goals in 3 games. Costa has managed 4 shots so far, including 2 on target and 1 attempted assist. Will you side with the Clueless Husband? Until Next Week… Good Luck! Holly and her Clueless Husband Follow fplbet for weekly fantasy features...
