Game Week 33 Captain Picks

Share post on:
FPL Holly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for Gameweek 33. After all the excitement of a Double Gameweek, it's a blank schedule with just 12 sides to choose from and some key absentees: Manchester City, Manchester United and Spurs. The deadline is on Friday - don't miss it! It's a tough week ahead for fantasy managers, with yet another classic shield vs sword dilemma. Rotation could also come into play for managers, with the top six all involved in key European Quarter Final action in midweek as the schedule ramps up! There's plenty still to play for in the Premier League, but some teams destiny has already been sealed.

Shield Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Southampton (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: Evens The inconsistent spell continues for Salah, but he's the highest owned outfield player for Blank Gameweek 33 and one of very few premium assets to choose from. Behind in the golden boot race, he will be looking to improve on his 17 goal tally, after securing just two assists from his last 4 games. He got a goal in the reverse fixture and could be on penalties if Milner doesn't feature. He's likely to be the most captained, so the safe option for those top of Mini-Leagues is to give the Egyptian your sword pick armband.

Sword Pick: Sadio Mane vs Southampton (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: Evens Late rumours on Twitter persuaded many from the sword pick in the last blank gameweek, which cost managers 11 points who went with Salah instead. Plenty will be bolder on this occasion, with those on an attacking double up selecting the form choice Mane: he has 3 goals and 1 assist from his last 4 games. A game against his old club will spur Mane on further, although he's never delivered an attacking return against his former employers. Will you attack your Mini-League rivals with the shield pick?

Form Pick: Jamie Vardy vs Huddersfield (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 4/5 Vardy is in great form since Brendan Rogers joined The Foxes: he has 4 goals and 1 assist from his last 4 games and he's on penalties too. Leicester won the reverse fixture 3-1, with Vardy picking up a goal and an assist, plus two bonus points. Huddersfield are already relegated so who know's how they'll perform in their first home game since that was confirmed: they've conceded 9 goals in their last 4 games. Are you going with the form pick over premium assets?

Fixture Pick: Roberto Firmino vs Southampton (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 11/8 Bobby has been going quietly about his business since returning to the side after a slight injury lay off: he has 3 goals and 1 assist from his last 3 starts. Liverpool simply can't afford to drop any points before the end of the season. Firmino got a goal and an assist in this fixture last season and Southampton are conceding on average 2 goals per game against top six opposition. Will you select this fixture pick as a premium captain differential?

Reverse Pick: Ashley Barnes vs Bournemouth (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 7/5 Ashley Barnes disappointed in the last blank gameweek but he has the pedigree in this fixture: Burnley thrashed Bournemouth 4-0 earlier in the season, with Barnes collecting two goals and all three bonus points. He has just 1 goal in his last 4 games, but with Burnley in a scrap to avoid relegation with a tough run-in, it's a must win game for them. If they can get some goals here, Barnes will be at the heart of it. Are you going with the reverse pick?

Punt Pick: Alexandre Lacazette vs Everton (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 13/10 Lacazette is close to wrestling the title of Arsenal premium striker option of choice away from Aubameyang, with 3 starts in his last 4 games: yielding 2 goals and 3 assists. In fact, he's delivered a return in each of his last 6 games and got a goal in the reverse fixture against Everton. The Toffees do have 3 clean sheets from their last 4 games, but their defence is very unpredictable, so that statistic won't dissuade many FPL managers. Will you take a punt on the Arsenal front man?

Park the Bus Pick: Andrew Robertson vs Southampton (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 12/1 Clean Sheet Odds: 19/20 Liverpool look best placed to keep a clean sheet this weekend, despite having just one in their last four. It's 17 for the season, and Robertson has now increased his assist tally to 10: he doesn't stop creating through crosses from his team mates. Are you brave enough to captain a defender?

Clueless Husband Pick: Eden Hazard vs West Ham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 4/5 Surely the ultimate fantasy troll, Eden Hazard, cannot be trusted with the armband ever again? Memories fade quickly for casual managers though, so my Clueless Husband is having another bite of the cherry here. A home game against a woeful West Ham team does look prime for captaincy “on paper”, but bear in mind that the reverse fixture ended 0-0 with Fabianski making the dream team with a double digit score. Chelsea have been struggling to convert their chances recently too. With just 1 goal in 4, it looks to be a risky selection. Will you side with my Clueless Husband? Until Next Week… Good Luck!
