Game Week 28 Captain Picks

Share post on:

FPL Holly is back this week with her selection of captain picks for Gameweek 28. It's a midweek deadline, with selections needed to be in by 18:45 GMT on Tuesday 26th February - don't miss it!

Gameweek 27 was an absolute captaincy disaster: we were down to limited options, with the traction all for Salah, Aubameyang, Son and Pogba: they all failed to deliver! Many managers will be hoping to bounce back with a much needed captaincy haul and there's a mouthwatering set of fixtures that bring plenty of hope!

Shield Pick: Mohammed Salah vs Watford (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 7/10

Many managers will have fond memories of this fixture last season, in which Salah scored 4 goals and got an assist: will we get a repeat performance here? History is certainly on his side, Salah has scored in every game he has faced Watford which will encourage suitors after a barren spell. It's just one goal in 4 games now for Salah, but a home fixture against a non top-six side regularly yields big points for the Egyptian. Will you ignore form over the fixture and play safe with the shield pick?

Sword Pick: Paul Pogba vs Crystal Palace (A)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 8/5

Pogba has the form and the fixture looks promising: Crystal Palace are missing some key players in defence which may make things difficult for them here. A rare blank for Pogba in the Liverpool game is disappointing, but Manchester United had an unprecedented amount of injuries to deal with which heavily affected the game. It's still 3 goals and 1 assist in 4 for the United main man and he's returned in 3 consecutive away games. With penalties also in his locker, he's a tempting selection, despite the injury concerns at United right now. Are you going to attack the midweek round of fixtures with the sword pick?

Form Pick: Sergio Aguero vs West Ham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 4/7

7 goals in 4 Premier League games catapults Aguero to the top of the form charts here. The concern is that he will be rotated, given the minutes he has played in the Champions League and EFL Cup in the last week: although Jesus is still recovering from a slight injury. If he starts you'd expect him to be on the scoresheet: he hasn't blanked in a home Premier League start since returning from his injury mid season. He's also on penalties which could further boost his score. West Ham are without a clean sheet in their last 5 games, conceding 8 goals in that spell. Will you opt for the form pick?

Fixture Pick: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang vs Bournemouth (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 3/4

Those managers who kept faith with Aubameyang three weeks ago have amassed just 3 points in 3 games, but surely the Arsenal striker will repay the faith here? His starting berth looks secure following a 15 minute sub appearance at the weekend and in his last home start against Cardiff he scored 12 points with a goal and an assist. He is on penalties and scored in the reverse fixture. Bournemouth have just 1 clean sheet in 4, conceding 6 goals in that time. Are you trusting Aubameyang to make amends?

Reverse Pick: Leroy Sane vs West Ham (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 6/5

It was the Manchester City wingers who shone in the reverse fixture, with Sane getting 2 goals and an assist on the way to a 19 point haul, linking with Sterling. It's been an inconsistent spell for the German who's been out of favour with Guardiola, but his recent rests suggest he's due to start in this game. Pep will go with the same formula which produced a dominant performance in the 4-0 reverse fixture. Do you dare toy with Pep roulette for the reverse pick?

Punt Pick: Jamie Vardy vs Brighton (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 23/20

With Puel sacked, Jamie Vardy will be bouncing back as the main man at Leicester once more. He should be on penalties despite that miss against Spurs, and looking to improve on his tally of one goal in 4 games. He certainly has the ability despite a disappointing season and is a player who can step up on the big occasions. Brighton have 1 clean sheet in 4, conceding 9 goals during that period. Are you going to take a punt on a Vardy party?

Park the Bus Pick: Andrew Robertson vs Watford (H)

Anytime Goalscorer Odds: 11/1

Clean Sheet Odds: 10/11

It's now 15 clean sheets this season for Liverpool, with Robertson also scooping up 7 assists and 23 bonus points. Liverpool have back to back clean sheets, conceding just 2 goals in their last 4 games, with Robertson the most likely source of attacking returns and bonus points. They beat Watford 3-0 in the reverse fixture, a team that have struggled on the road this season. Will you be brave enough to captain a defender?

Clueless Husband Pick: Kepa vs Spurs (H)

Clean Sheet Odds: 21/10

The drama of the closing stages in the EFL Cup Final captured my Clueless Husband, who is banking on the Chelsea keeper to earn back the trust of his manager with a convincing display in a tricky London derby. Kepa conceded 3 goals in the reverse fixture, and there's no guarantees that he can retain his starting place, so it's certainly a clueless captain selection. Will you side with my Clueless Husband?

Until Next Week…
Good Luck!
