FPL Heisenberg's Captain Series
Welcome to the latest article in a new series for the 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League season from @FPL_Heisenberg for FPL Bet. In this weekly series, Heisenberg will be looking into the best captaincy options, as well as ‘outside of the box' captaincy choices for each Gameweek. Heisenberg has a proven track record in FPL, having finished inside the top 32k in each of the last 6 seasons, including a best finish of 836th. Let's cook!
Triple Gameweek 35 Captains:
Bruno Fernandes (Fixtures: Aston Villa, Away and Leicester/Liverpool, Home)
An unprecedented triple Gameweek for Manchester United in Gameweek 35. However, only one Man United player makes this article due to how close together the games are together, I'm expecting most of their assets to play a maximum of 2 games.
Bruno is the top point scorer in FPL this season and is a very reliable option, week in week out. In the underlying statistics it's not surprising as he's near the top for shots and for chances created, he's a genuine double threat as he proved in Man United's most recent game, the home tie vs Roma where he scored 2 goals and got 2 assists.
Bruno can deliver goals and/or assists in any fixture and given the fact he should play at least 2 games of the triple, there's every chance Mr Reliable can do the business. Furthermore, Bruno Fernandes is central to everything Man United do, and, importantly he takes penalties which as we all know, United win a lot of them!
Man United played in the Europa League this week, with Bruno being subbed off after around 83 minutes grabbing one assist.
Mo Salah (Fixture: Southampton, Home and Man United, Away)
Liverpool have struggled this season generally speaking, but this hasn't stopped Salah from being in the mix for the golden boot race with 20 goals, just one goal behind ace marksman Harry Kane. Furthermore, his season-long form is still strong, with goals in Europe too.
He's been consistently performing well in all the key attacking metrics and I have no doubt this will continue this Gameweek against a Southampton side who although have improved of late, are still shipping goals. Furthermore, he has an extra fixture this Gameweek vs Man United who haven't been great defensively this season either. Mo is on penalties which is another route to points for the Egyptian King too.
Could we see Mo return with a bang and get his first double digit return since Gameweek 21 vs West Ham? Those who captain him will certainly hope so.
Kelechi Iheanacho (Fixture: Newcastle, Home and Man United, Away)
One of the standout captain picks in Gameweek 35 is the £6.3m Leicester forward Iheanacho. What an unbelievable run of form he's currently on, backing that up on Monday Night Football with a goal and an assist vs Crystal Palace and an assist on Friday Night Football vs Southampton.
If he can pick up where he left off in the last few games, then Iheanacho could be in for another productive Gameweek vs Newcastle and a fixture-congested Man United. A tasty double gameweek for Rodgers' Leicester could be the perfect recipe for the Nigerian to score well in.
It is important to note that the upturn in Iheanacho's goalscoring form has coincided with a strong run in the team along with becoming the main man in terms of goalscoring as Jamie Vardy turns provider. It's also worth noting that Iheanacho has increased his assist potential recently, registering his first two assists of the season in the last two Gameweeks.
The two of them have linked up well in recent weeks so don't be surprised to see them assist each other in Gameweek 35.
‘Outside of the Box' captains:
Ollie Watkins (Fixture: Man United, Home and Everton, Home)
One of my differential captain picks in Gameweek 35 is the £6.5m Aston Villa Forward Ollie Watkins. Currently sitting at under 27% ownership at the time of writing � he will still be a huge captain differential, with your mini-league rivals likely to captain one of the premium assets such as Bruno Fernandes.
A decent enough double fixture vs a Man United side who will rotate and an Everton side which recently conceded two goals vs Aston Villa, so Watkins could well be in the points again this week if he can continue his good run of recent form.
Making a player from Aston Villa your captain is not something that a boring player like myself is likely to do, but if you like taking risks and you're playing catch up then Watkins could be your man. Like I mentioned, if you're playing catch up this week then maybe now is the time to take a punt.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Fixture: West Ham, Away and Aston Villa, Away)
After a great start to the season, Dominic Calvert-Lewin went off the radar following some blanks and then an injury. He returned with a bang against Leeds and Man United then picked up a knock. Since then, his form (and injury issues) have been an problem and his output in terms of FPL returns has been poor. However, I'm backing him to pick up where he left off against Aston Villa last Gameweek and perform well in Gameweek 35.
In terms of the underlying statistics at the start of the season, he was top for non-penalty expected goals for all players in the league. He was getting himself into the positions where he's most likely to score goals, in the central areas of the penalty area, with most of his goals being one touch finishes � something he and Ancelotti have been working hard on.
His output suffered recently when Lucas Digne, Richarlison and James Rodriguez all missed games through injury. With those players now back in the game along with the ever creative Sigurdsson supplying chances to Calvert-Lewin he should have an increased chance to score goals.
Everton have a decent double fixture away to the impressive but leaky West Ham and away to an Aston Villa side who have been much leakier in recent Gameweeks.
