Welcome to the latest article in a new series for the 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League season from @FPL_Heisenberg for FPL Bet. In this weekly series, Heisenberg will be looking into the best captaincy options, as well as ‘outside of the box' captaincy choices for each Gameweek. Heisenberg has a proven track record in FPL, having finished inside the top 32k in each of the last 6 seasons, including a best finish of 836th. Let's cook!
Gameweek 6 Captains:
Harry Kane (Fixture: Burnley, away)
It took Kane just 16 minutes to amass two goals and one assist in Gameweek 5 at home to a reasonably decent defensive side this season, West ham. He really is looking back to his absolute best in front of goal, add to this with his new found assist threat, we have Harry Kane back as a genuine captaincy contender against any opposition.
Moving onto the goal threat stats, he has taken the joint most shots (alongside Salah) so far this season with 25, has the most shots on target with 13, the fourth most shots in the box with 16 and has the second highest expected goals with 4.33 (only Calvert-Lewin has a higher score with 4.44). Harry Kane has been a goal threat for many years in the Premier League, but his assist threat is something he's added to his game. His passing ability has always been exceptional, but tactically he was more the man to get on the end of passes, now he's dropping into the number 10 position at times to feed the lightning quick lethal finisher Heung-Min Son. The stats show how much better he's become creatively, with the highest expected assists score in the league with 3.79, the most big chances created with 7 and the most assists with 7.
If you don't have Kane in your FPL team then maybe you fancy putting the armband on his teammate, the South Korean international Son…
Heung-Min Son (Fixture: Burnley, away)
Benefitting from Harry Kane's new found creativity, Heung-Min Son � the joint top goal scorer in the league alongside Calvert-Lewin � is a genuine captaincy option. Second only to his teammate Harry Kane in overall points, the underlying statistics show that this is no fluke as he's in the top 3 for that metric as well, alongside Kane and Salah.
When comparing Kane and Son away from home this season (which is a small sample I must note) Son is ahead in goals scored, 6 to 3 and in FPL points, 42 to 37 � Son is top for all players in these metrics away from home too. With an away fixture to Burnley in Gameweek 6, I fancy the South Korean to continue his hot streak in front of goal.
Mohamed Salah (Fixture: Sheffield United, Home)
Salah is again a top-pick for captaincy in Gameweek 6, especially since he's facing a struggling Sheffield United at Anfield. He's coming into this game off the back of a brace away at Villa Park and a goal away at Goodison.
The Egyptian King has started the season well, with six goals and an assist in just five league games. He's taken 25 shots in the box so far this season, the joint highest (with Harry Kane) in the Premier League this season. According to Fantasy Football Hub's expected goals (xG) metric, he has an xG of 3.93, only Harry Kane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have a higher xG. His assist threat is good too, with an expected assists score of 2.87, second only to Harry Kane for that metric so it could be argued he's been unfortunate only to register one assist so far this season.
‘Outside of the Box' captains:
Jack Grealish (Fixture: Leeds, Home)
Although the Aston Villa talisman is currently selected by around 23% of FPL managers at the time of writing, he will still be a huge captain differential, with your mini-league rivals likely to captain one of the premium assets like Salah, Kane, Sterling, Son etc.
The Villa captain will be full of confidence following 2 goals and 3 assists in a truly remarkable 7-2 win at Villa Park against the reigning champions, Liverpool. He followed this up with a fantastic performance against Leicester, although he didn't get any attacking returns. If he can keep the attacking momentum going, then Jack Grealish could score well at home to Leeds.
Neal Maupay (Fixture: West Brom, Home)
One of my differential captain picks in Gameweek 6 is the £6.6m Brighton forward Neal Maupay. Currently sitting at less than 7% ownership at the time of writing � he is a huge differential, especially if you captain him! I think it's fairly safe to say that of those who own him, very few of them will be throwing the armband on him.
The Frenchman has four goals and one assist in the last four Premier League games and has a very favourable fixture at home to West Brom, one of the worse defences in the League. Maupay has the underlying stats to back up his goals and assists with an expected goals score of 3.61 and an expected assists score of 1.17 and is 5th overall for shots this season with 18. Of course, it should be noted that he's Brighton's number one penalty taker too, which is very important this season as we all know.
