Welcome to the latest article in a new series for the 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League season from @FPL_Heisenberg for FPL Bet. In this weekly series, Heisenberg will be looking into the best captaincy options, as well as ‘outside of the box' captaincy choices for each Gameweek. Heisenberg has a proven track record in FPL, having finished inside the top 32k in each of the last 6 seasons, including a best finish of 836th. Let's cook!
Gameweek 11 Captains:
Kevin De Bruyne (Fixture: Fulham, Home)
Following on from a lively � but ultimately fruitless � performance against Spurs from the Belgian midfield maestro, De Bruyne then produced the goods with a 10-pointer at home to Burnley. Will Man City be able to kick on further and build upon their free-scoring performance. For those of us captaining De Bruyne, we sure hope so.
De Bruyne was last seasons top point scorer, but he needs to start adding goals to his assists if he wants to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. He has a strong chance of doing that this week, after he was fully rested in both of Man City's last 2 Champions League matches.
With Fulham not planning on parking the bus, this could be a good chance for Man City to expose any space they may leave when they commit players forward. If you haven't got the cash needed for De Bruyne, then maybe his teammate could be a decent option too…
Riyad Mahrez (Fixture: Fulham, Home)
Mahrez is in red hot form, fresh off the back of a superbly taken hat trick at home to Burnley in Gameweek 10. Like De Bruyne, Mahrez also didn't play any minutes in their last Champions League game. This bodes well for the infamously hard to predict Pep Roulette.
Talking of Pep Roulette, I was shocked to discover that Mahrez has played at least 71 minutes in 7 of the last 8 games (completing 90 minutes in 4 of those 7 starts). Therefore, Mahrez has actually not been too badly affected by Pep's rotation, definitely the sort of minutes you can stomach as an FPL manager, rather than Foden who seems to be getting the bulk of his minutes in the Champions League.
See below some stats which show how much Mahrez has improved in recent weeks. Will you be trusting the Algerian wizard with your captains armband?
Bruno Fernandes (Fixture: West Ham, Away)
Bruno Fernandes has been a revelation since joining Man United and is a fantastic option for captaincy yet again away against West Ham.
He's central to everything Man United do, and, importantly he takes penalties and as we all know, United win a lot of them! Depending on your team structure and bank balance, you may not have the cash for him and therefore you can't squeeze Bruno in, but, you may have his teammate, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Marcus Rashford who could also be in the points this Gameweek as Man United are facing a West Ham defence which looked vulnerable against Aston Villa in Gameweek 10.
Bruno also tends to do very well away from home, as he proved against Brighton, Newcastle, Everton and Southampton with double digit hauls in all of his away games this season.
Timo Werner (Fixture: Leeds, Home)
Chelsea have been in great form in all competitions. Likewise, Timo Werner has been ticking along nicely and has the potential to explode in any given Gameweek.
Following on from Giroud's 4 goal haul in the Champons League, Frank may choose to start him this week. If he does, I see that being good for Werner, as Giroud is excellent at bringing the other attacking options into play with his excellent hold up play.
Facing Leeds in Gameweek 10 who have a couple of clean sheets on the bounce, but they have been allowing a lot of shots on their goal all season and I fully expect Chelsea, and Timo in particular, to punish them.
‘Outside of the Box' captain:
Jamie Vardy (Fixture: Sheffield United, Away)
Top Stat: despite playing less minutes than many top players Vardy is top in terms of expected goals 8.19. The Leicester number 9 will be full of confidence following three goals and three assists in the last 5 Gameweeks. If he can continue this form, then Jamie Vardy could score well in Gameweek 11.
After a fairly disappointing performance vs Fulham, most FPL managers will be reluctant to give him the captaincy this week � especially with Man City assets now facing Fulham � that's why Vardy falls into the outside of the box category.
Vardy has all the qualities I look for in a captain, nailed on to play 80 plus minutes virtually every Gameweek, proven goalscorer and on penalties. Further to that he's away from home, against one of the poorest teams in the division, bottom of the League Sheffield United.
Facing the team bottom of the League, Leicester and their talisman Jamie Vardy could run riot in Gameweek 11 vs Sheffield United. Further to this, the majority of his FPL points have come on the road this season.
