Welcome to the latest article in a new series for the 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League season from @FPL_Heisenberg for FPL Bet. In this weekly series, Heisenberg will be looking into the best captaincy options, as well as ‘outside of the box' captaincy choices for each Gameweek. Heisenberg has a proven track record in FPL, having finished inside the top 32k in each of the last 6 seasons, including a best finish of 836th. Let's cook!
Gameweek 10 Captains:
Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Fixture: Leeds, Home)
What a season Dominic Calvert-Lewin is having. The top goal scorer in the Premier League with 10 goals, the same amount as the entire Manchester City team combined!
The England number 9 has only blanked once this season - this is no fluke. In terms of the underlying statistics he's top for non-penalty expected goals for all players in the league this season. He's getting himself into the positions where he's most likely to score goals, in the central areas of the penalty area, with most of his goals being one touch finishes � something he and Ancelotti have been working hard on.
Everton are at home to Leeds who've been involved in some high scoring games this season, conceding 17 goals in 9 games � only Fulham (18) and West Brom (18) have conceded more � so there's going to be opportunities for Calvert-Lewin, especially with Richarlison and Digne both back for Everton, their attacking output increased vs Fulham, and, should this continue then Calvert-Lewin could have a field day at Goodison Park vs Leeds.
Kevin De Bruyne (Fixture: Burnley, Home)
Manchester City have not been themselves this season. Their surprising lack of goals has made virtually all of their assets not worth having so far this season, however, they're about to embark on a favourable run of fixtures, starting with Burnley at the Etihad in Gameweek 10.
F you're considering Sterling vs De Bruyne, then this tweet from @BigManBakar should help: “This season, De Bruyne averages a big chance involvement every ∼80 minutes v Sterling's ∼160 minutes. In home games last season, De Bruyne averaged a big chance involvement every ∼56 minutes v Sterling's ∼111 minutes. De Bruyne the clear standout for home games.”
Following on from a lively � but ultimately fruitless � performance against Spurs from the Belgian midfield maestro, De Bruyne will be looking to kick on and turn these good performances into FPL points hauls. Will this be the fixture in which the Man City of old return, scoring bags of goals? It could well be.
With Nick Pope ruled out for Burnley this weekend this further adds weight to the claims to captain Kevin.
Bruno Fernandes (Fixture: Southampton, Away)
Bruno Fernandes has been a revelation since joining Man United and is a fantastic option for captaincy away against Southampton.
He's central to everything Man United do, and, importantly he takes penalties and as we all know, United win a lot of them. Depending on your team structure and bank balance, you may not have the cash for him and therefore you can't squeeze Bruno in, but, you may have his teammate, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Marcus Rashford who could also be in the points this Gameweek as Man United are facing a Southampton defence which can concede a lot of goals in any given game, just ask Jack Grealish and Heung-Min Son.
Bruno also tends to do very well away from home, as he proved against Brighton, Newcastle and Everton with double digit hauls in all of his away games this season.
Jamie Vardy (Fixture: Fulham, Home)
Top Stat: despite playing less minutes than the players like Calvert-Lewin, Kane and Salah he is top for all players in terms of expected goals 7.82. The Leicester number 9 will be full of confidence following three goals and two assists in the last 4 Gameweeks. If he can continue this form, then Jamie Vardy could score well at home against Fulham.
Vardy has all the qualities I look for in a captain, nailed on to play 80 plus minutes virtually every Gameweek, proven goalscorer and on penalties. Further to that he's at home, against one of the poorest teams in the division. Making him your captain is definitely a wise decision.
Facing the joint worse defence in the league (Both Fulham and West Brom have conceded 18) Leicester and their talisman Jamie Vardy could run riot in Gameweek 10.
‘Outside of the Box' captain:
Andy Robertson (Fixture: Brighton, Away)
After being written off as a defensive unit by many � including myself to an extent � Liverpool proved us all wrong with a defensively solid performance against Jamie Vardy and co in Gameweek 9. Matip and Fabinho were solid at centre back, the leagues best goalkeeper and leagues best left back were excellent too. Furthermore, Milner in at right back is more than a match for defensive capabilities when compared with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Further to a solid defensive performance, Robbo also provided four successful crosses (the most of any defender in Gameweek 9) with one leading to a goal � cleaning up with 3 bonus points to boot. Away to Brighton could be another chance of a return at both ends of the pitch for the Scotsman.
Caution, this is a very risky captain pick! But then again, that's why it's in the outside of the box category!
