FPL Heisenberg's Captain Series
Welcome to the latest article in a new series for the 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League season from @FPL_Heisenberg for FPL Bet. In this weekly series, Heisenberg will be looking into the best captaincy options, as well as ‘outside of the box' captaincy choices for each Gameweek. Heisenberg has a proven track record in FPL, having finished inside the top 32k in each of the last 6 seasons, including a best finish of 836th. Let's cook!
Double Gameweek 19 Captains:
Mo Salah (Fixture: Man United, Home and Burnley, Home)
Despite a surprising 3 blanks against West Brom, Newcastle and Southampton , Salah is still a top-pick for captaincy in Gameweek 19, especially since he has two home games and his home record is phenomenal. Despite his recent form, his season-long form is still strong, with 13 goals and 4 assists in the league so far.
He's been consistently performing well in all the key metrics such as creating chances, shots on target, shots in the box, expected assists and expected goals and I have no doubt this will continue this Gameweek. Furthermore, as Mo is on penalties, that is another route to points too.
Could we see Mo return with a bang with 2 home fixtures in Double Gameweek 19? Those who captain him will certainly hope so.
Kevin De Bruyne (Fixture: Crystal Palace, Home and Aston Villa, Home)
The Belgian maestro is playing well and Man City were back to their best putting 3 past Chelsea. They also created a lot of opportunities against Brighton, but only scored once.
De Bruyne was last seasons top point scorer, and he finally scored from open play against Chelsea. Whilst I admit he needs to add more open play goals to his assists if he wants to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season, he � and Man City � are looking back to their best. He has a strong chance of doing that this week, at home to both Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
Will Man City be able to kick on further and get back to regular free-scoring performances? For those captaining De Bruyne, they'll sure hope that is the case.
Bruno Fernandes (Fixture: Liverpool, Away and Fulham, Away)
Bruno Fernandes is central to everything Man United do, and, importantly he takes penalties which as we all know, United win a lot of them! Depending on your team structure and bank balance, you may not have the cash for Bruno and therefore you can't squeeze him in. However, you may have his teammate Marcus Rashford who has to 5 goals and 2 assists in his last 9 league games.
Back to Bruno, his away record is phenomenal too, and he's even performing well in the attacking metrics away from home too, proving it's no fluke.
However, a word of warning for Bruno captainers, should he get a yellow card at Anfield, that will rule him out for the 2nd game of the double Gameweek away at Fulham.
Jamie Vardy (Fixtures: Southampton, Home and Chelsea, Home)
As Vardy missed Leicester's cup game and didn't have a Premier League game in Gameweek 18, a well-rested Vardy is a top-pick for captaincy in Gameweek 19, especially since he's facing 2 sides who will potentially leave space in behind for Vardy to run into. He's coming into this game off the back of a good run of consistent season-long form.
The veteran striker has 11 goals and 8 assists this season, starting 14 league games. He's been consistently performing well in all the key metrics too such as; shots on target, shots in the box and expected goals and I have no doubt this will continue against Southampton and Chelsea. Furthermore, as Vardy is on penalties, that is another route to points for him too and Leicester have won a lot of them so far this season.
Let's hope his rest period means he will be fresh to punish the Chelsea and Southampton backlines.
‘Outside of the Box' captain:
Michail Antonio (Fixtures: Burnley, Home and West Brom, Home)
The West Ham forward is only selected by under 6% of FPL players at the time of writing, and therefore will be a huge captain differential, with your mini-league rivals likely to captain one of the premium assets like Salah, De Bruyne, Bruno, etc.
The Englishman has had a return to the West Ham side after struggling with hamstrong issues. He's come off the bench in the least 2 league games and managed 90 minutes in the FA Cup, proving that he can play 90 minutes currently and therefore we can be a bit more assured of his gametime.
Facing Burnley and West Brom at home he has two plumb fixtures to do the damage in, so I wouldn't back against Antonio in Double Gameweek 19.
