Welcome back to another Fantasy Premier League Captain Tips for Gameweek 18 article. This week,
jamieFPL returns to highlight the best low, medium and high-risk candidates for your captain's armband.
Another strong week for the template team players with Riyad Mahrez (15), Odion Ighalo (13), Mesut Özil (11), Jamie Vardy (8) and Romelu Lukaku (6) all proving worthy of the armband.
It's tough to look any further than the usual suspects again ahead of Gameweek 18, but nevertheless we've picked out a few medium and high risk candidates that could no doubt raise a few eyebrows.
Low Risk
Riyad Mahrez vs. LIV (A)
Leicester's impeccable run of form was expected to come to an end this month as they entered their period of ‘tough fixtures', however wins over Chelsea (H) and Everton (A) in the last fortnight shows they don't plan to take their foot off the gas any time soon.
Riyad Mahrez has been absolutely incredible this season and having tallied up six goals and an assist in his last three Premier League matches, it's hard to find a safer candidate for the armband come Gameweek 18.
The Foxes travel to Merseyside this weekend to face a Liverpool side looking to bounce back from a shock 3-0 defeat to newly promoted Watford. However, with Skrtel and Lovren still out injured, Toure and Can/Lucus look set to cover in central defence. Do they have the quality to keep out one of the hottest attacks in the division? We're not convinced.
Romelu Lukaku vs. NEW (A)
If there's one thing we've learnt from this season, it's not to underestimate an in-form player. Jamie Vardy broke Ruud van Nistelrooy's record after scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League matches and with Lukaku converting in his last seven, we could see the same record broken twice in one season.
If Lukaku wants to make it eight goals in eight matches then he'll need to convert against Newcastle this weekend at St James' Park. Everton have scored at least two goals in their last seven matches against Newcastle and with the Magpies in a purple patch of their own, we expect this game to provide goals.
The Belgian striker ticks all the boxes this weekend and has the form, fixture and class to bring home a big point haul. If Jamie Vardy is sidelined through injury then Mahrez's point potential arguably decreases, making Lukaku the safer option.
Medium Risk
Harry Kane vs. NOR (H)
Tottenham enter this fixture undefeated in fifteen of their last sixteen matches in the Premier League. Visitors Norwich have struggled on the road this season and prior to their 2-1 victory at Old Trafford, had only picked up one point in their last five on the road.
Harry Kane has converted eight goals in his last eight Premier League matches for Spurs and will look to continue that run against Norwich. Tottenham have won 17 and lost none of their last 19 matches against newly promoted opposition and Kane helped continue this run with a hattrick against Bournemouth in October.
Sergio Agüero vs. SUN (H)
Agüero is back on the radar of all fantasy managers after returning from injury to feature against Arsenal on Monday night. Despite failing to make an impact during City's 2-1 defeat at the Emirates, it's hard to ignore this potential this weekend as they host a Sunderland side that have leaked goals on the road this year.
Manchester City have scored at least three goals in six of their last seven home matches against Sunderland. The Black Cats have conceded the most goals (33) and allowed their opponents the most shots on target (106) in the league this season, and with Younes Kaboul sidelined, Agüero could explode back on the scene this weekend.
High Risk
Theo Walcott vs. SOU (A)
Theo Walcott has started to feature in more minutes following his return from injury and his place within the side seems nailed on at least until Alexis Sánchez returns.
The English winger has picked up a goal and assist in his last two matches and will look to extend that against Southampton, who have only taken one point from their last five matches.
Jordan Henderson vs. LEI (H)
Jürgen Klopp will be looking for his side to bounce back following their 3-0 away defeat to Watford last weekend, and if there's one Liverpool player capable of rallying the troops, it's their skipper Jordan Henderson.
Henderson played his first full 90 minutes in front of the Kop earlier this month and immediately returned to business with a goal and assist. He's a huge risk for the armband but could provide big differential points, especially within the daily game.
