After defeat to Espanyol on Saturday, coach Abelardo Fernandez will be hoping for some sort of redemption. Sitting in 18th place in the relegation zone, their statistics do not make pretty reading. Gijon have conceded at least one goal in each of their last 7 matches played in front of their own fans and have not recorded a single clean sheet since the end of October. With Villarreal coming to town, Fernandez will hope his team can turn their fortunes around. Villarreal on the other hand come into this game on the back of an impressive much needed win over title contenders Atletico Madrid. Their first win since the start of last month - a win which will give Fran Escriba and his team a much needed boost. However, their away form is in dire need of surgery, they have not recorded a win on the road since the 6th September - a 2-0 win over Malaga. If Escriba and his men have any sort of ambitions to gatecrash the Champions League positions, they would need to quickly improve away from home.

Match Prediction:

Considering the trouncing of Atletico Madrid had the hands of Escriba's men, many would expect Villarreal - who sit in a healthy 4th position in the table level on points with Real Sociedad - to pick up the 3 points in El Molinon. Gijon have been leaky in defence all season and their recent form will not help their cause coming into this one, an away victory is on the cards.
