SPURS DEFENSIVE RECORD

Spurs have had serious problems keeping clean sheets. Last season they conceded 53 goals. The same amount as relegated Burnley and two more than Hull City. The team always look shaky at the back and struggle to keep opponents out no matter what their quality is. They will be keen for that to change this season and have recruited the services of Belgian defender Toby Aldeweireld who will look to form a solid partnership with Jan Vertonghen.

GOALKEEPER ANALYSIS

[mks_col] [mks_one_half] [/mks_one_half] [mks_one_half]Hugo Lloris (5.0m) - One of the best goalkeepers in England. He was thrown under the bus by his defence last year and still managed to impress. Spurs have added to their defence and with Llrois behind them they'll he will be eager to keep more clean sheets than last season. VERDICT: It's believed Lloris will miss the opening games, leave him till he's fit. [/mks_one_half] [/mks_col] Michel Vorm (4.5m) - Whilst Llrois is fit Vorm won't be playing much. May well play opening few GW's but even then doesn't look appealing. VERDICT: There are better options out there for 4.5m.

WHICH SUPURS DEFENDER SHOULD I PICK FOR MY FPL TEAM?

It's hard to pick a Spurs defender as they have such a poor defensive record. Toby Alderweireld looks the best bet though, he's cheaper than his Belgian counterpart Jan Vertonghen and last season was very impressive for Southampton. There is no telling what Kyle Walker is thinking he can be hot and cold so he's not a risk worth taking. It's the new signing Alderweireld for us.

DEFENDER ANALYSIS

[mks_col] [mks_one_half] [/mks_one_half] [mks_one_half]Toby Alderweireld (5.0m) - Joined the London club in controversial circumstances and the White Heart Lane will be happy that he did. He had a good season for the Saints and will be looking to impress at his new club. VERDICT: We'd avoid or bench him for GW1 but after that he's worth a go for sure. [/mks_one_half] [/mks_col] Jan Vertonghen (5.5m) - He's nailed on the be a starter in defence with Alderweireld but he looked very shaky at times last year. VERDICT: Let Jan find his feet once again before you take the plunge. Danny Rose (5.5m) - Last season he was Spurs most consistent and best defender. The system Pochettino employs really suits Rose and allows him to push forward. He scored three goals last season and picked up five assists. Has shown signs of being exposed in the past though. The manager also has a habit of rotating his fullbacks. VERDICT: We'd avoid him until Spurs sort out their defensive troubles. Kieran Trippier/Kyle Walker (5.5m-5.0m) It's impossible to call who will start at right back and if they will be in the side each week. Trippier comes from Burnley where he enjoyed a good season but Walker has been a mainstay in the Spurs side. This ones down to Poch. VERDICT: Wait and see which player is preferred. Eric Dier (5.0m) - Dier is an interesting one, he's likely to be in and around the starting lineup either ar right back or in midfield taking the palce of Ryan Mason. Last season he scored 93 points from 25 games and was used mainly as a defender but many Spurs' fans believe he will be pushed into midfield this season. VERDICT: Let Dier settle into the Spurs' side and see where he plays. He could have a good impact on the Spurs' side from midfield. Fazio/Kevin Wimmer (5.0m) - Wimmer will probably be used more in the Europa League than the Premier League so it's best to avoid them unless of injuries. Fazio will most likely drop to the bench with the signing of Toby. VERDICT: They wouldn't score points, leave them alone.

WHICH SPURS MIDFIELDER SHOULD I PICK FOR MY FPL TEAM?

There is really only one midfielder that is almost a must have from Spurs. The Danish attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen. He's a dead ball specialist and had a habit of pulling Spurs out of the rough last year along with Harry Kane. He's one of the best midfielders for his value and has to be considered for your side.

MIDFIELDER ANALYSIS

[mks_col] [mks_one_half] [/mks_one_half] [mks_one_half]Christian Eriksen (8.5m) - As previously mentioned he is fantastic from a set piece. He only collected four assists last season but that was partially down to the lack of finishing from Spurs. He also reach double figures in terms of goals reaching 10 for the season. VERDICT: Can change the momentum of the game in an instant, he's great value from GW2 and onwards. [/mks_one_half] [/mks_col] Nacer Chadli (7.0m) - A surprise package of sorts for Spurs last season Chadli scored 11 goals and had five assists. He is cheaper than Eriksen and scores almost the same amount of points as him. VERDICT: If you can't afford Eriksen then Chadli is a good alternative. Erik Lamela (7.0m) - His first season in England was disrupted due to injuries and he failed to flourish in his second. He did however finish the season strongly. He just doesn't seem to find his best form. VERDICT: You could spend 7.0m a lot better, Lamela doesn't score half as much as he should. Aaron Lennon/Andros Townsend (6.0m) - Lennon spent the second half of the season on loan at Everton and didn't really make much of an impact it seems he's on his way out this year. Townsend never really performs unless he's in an England shirt. VERDICT: It's a no for both of the English wingers, which is a shame because they could be really good FPL picks if they sorted their game out. Mousa Dembele (5.5m) - A powerhouse for Spurs but lacks quality in the final third. VERDICT: Move along he doesn't score much points on FPL and could be on his way out. Ryan Mason (5.0m) - Broke onto both the Spurs and England scene last year but could lose his place this year to Dier or Alli. VERDICT: Pass. Dele Alli (5.0m) - Joins from MK Dons and is tipped to be one of England's best midfielders in the future. He's fantastic on the ball and has an incredible range of passing. Alli has all the ability to displace Mason this season it's just if Pochettino trusts him enough. VERDICT: If Alli can secure a regular starting place he is a bargain at 5.0m otherwise he will be a rotation pick. Nabil Bentaleb (4.5m) - An exciting prospect for Spurs, but he played most of last season and only picked up 55 FPL points. VERDICT: - He won't get you many FPL points. A good bench filler for but won't contribute to your team. Tom Carroll/Alex Pritchard/ (5.0m) - If they are not loaned out they'll be fighting for a spot on the bench. VERDICT: It's a no for the three of them.

WHICH SPURS FORWARD SHOULD I PICK FOR MY FPL TEAM?

If you even consider Adebayour or Soldado you probably shouldn't be playing FPL. Kane showed the Premier League what he was all about and was in pretty much everyones team from December onwards. He scores all types of goals and is the only goalscoring striker that Tottenham have. The fans love him, the manager loves him and currently so do over 30% of FPL managers.

FORWARD ANALYSIS

[mks_col] [mks_one_half] [/mks_one_half] [mks_one_half]Harry Kane (9.5m) - This time last year he was owned by less than 5% of FPL players, now he's one of the most picked players on the game. He finished the season with 21 goals and seven assists. Considering he rarely played until November these are impressive totals. VERDICT: He's a must have, if someone scores for Spurs it's more than likely to be Kane. [/mks_one_half] [/mks_col] Roberto Soldado/Emmanuel Adebayor (6.0m) - Could go on all day about reasons both of them are a no but we don't have the time to do so. VERDICT: Don't even think about them.

OVERALL SUMMARY

Hugo Lloris is the number 1 for Spurs and will be unless he moves elsewhere, he may however miss the first few games weeks due to an injury but we wouldn't recommend putting Vorm in your team as a replacement. In defence it's hard to put a finger on one player because Spurs are so poor at keeping clean sheets. You've got the attacking prowess of Danny Rose but Ben Davies will be knocking on his door, we believe Toby Alderweireld is the best pick due to his composure and ability from set pieces. Erisken looks great value in midfield and should improve on his tally from last season, he seems to have an understanding of Harry Kane's movement. If you can't afford Eriksen then Nacer Chadli also looks a safe bet. There really is no argument upfront; it's Harry Kane all day long!
