Power Rankings: Five in form players for GW13

Share post on:
This week we launched our new Premier League Power Rankings feature which is designed to assist fantasy football players with monitoring the FPL form of players by position. Following impressive performances in Gameweek 12, five players flew up the rankings, three of which are now in the most transferred in players ahead of Gameweek 13. Whilst form is a great reason to transfer in a player, there are other contributing factors that should be considered such as fixtures, ownership & price. This article aims to analyse these points and reveal which players could be worth transferring in over the coming weeks.

Matt Phillips (WBA)

Next 4: Hull (A), Watford (H), Chelsea (A), Swansea (H). Price: £5.2 Ownership: 1.6% Historically speaking, it's always been a bit of a gray area when discussing whether to opt for West Brom attacking players due to their typically low scoring matches. However, the Baggies are currently averaging over a goal per game this season (believe it or not) with 16 from their opening 12 - a record that matches Everton. Matt Phillips is one of the many cheap, low-ownership attacking players to consider from West Brom, with the likes of Nacer Chadli and Salomon Rondon enjoying spells of good form. Phillips has earned 27 points over the last couple of matches, picking up a goal and assist in each match. This is just 3 points less than David Silva's total for the season. Three of his next four fixtures look promising and with a price of just £5.2 it's not like you'll be losing out by benching him against Chelsea. If there was one time to get him, this weekend against Hull seems the most logical. The Tigers have conceded the most goals in the league this year (27) and if Phillips can continue his form for the third week running then we'd expect his price and ownership to shoot up.

Harry Kane (TOT)

Next 4: Chelsea (A), Swansea (H), Man Utd (A), Hull (H) Price: £10.8 Ownership: 6.7% READ: Harry Kane: How & when to get him into your FPL team? Now that his cursed month of August is behind him and he's fully recovered from injury, Harry Kane has started to pick up form with three goals from his last two matches. Kane is proven within the Premier League having scored 21 (2014/15) and 25 (2015/16) in his last two seasons. For this reason, it's no surprise that he currently sits at the top of multiple watch-lists. From Gameweek 14 onwards, three of his four matches are at home to favourable opposition (Swansea, Hull and Burnley). In these matches he'll be a strong captain choice, which merits spending £10.8m to transfer him in.

Jermain Defoe (SUN)

Next 4: Liverpool (A), Leicester (H), Swansea (A), Chelsea (H). Price: £7.5m Ownership: 17.9% Following GW12, Jermain Defoe climbed above the likes of Diego Costa & Romelu Lukaku, and into the top spot of the Forward Player Rankings. With three goals and two assists from his last four matches, he's currently the Premier League's most in-form striker. Aside from Chelsea in Gameweek 16, Defoe has a run of fixtures where you'd expect him to find the net. Liverpool have only managed one clean sheet away from home this season, whilst Leicester and Swansea have respectively conceded 6 and 7 goals in their last four. The Sunderland striker can be acquired for just £7.5m, making him the perfect candidate for FPL managers who are looking to free up some cash to facilitate other transfers.

Jordan Pickford (SUN)

Next 4: Liverpool (A), Leicester (H), Swansea (A), Chelsea (H). Price: £4.1m Ownership: 14.0% Despite Sunderland's lack of clean sheets recently, Jordan Pickford has seen his ownership rise week by week. Whilst they aren't keeping shutouts, the English keeper is picking up plenty of points for saves. In fact, Pickford has made the second most saves in FPL, behind only Tom Heaton of Burnley with the Sunderland man averaging four per game in his last four fixtures. On a more individual basis, Pickford has been in fine form this season, earning international recognition from Gareth Southgate. The biggest pro in selecting the 22-year-old is he's incredibly cheap, priced at just £4.1m you're investing in a bargain buy. A stand out issue, however, are Sunderland's next four fixtures. On paper, you'd expect their best chance of keeping a clean sheet comes against Swansea as Liverpool and Chelsea have both been in superb form in front of goal this season, whilst we never know whether Leicester City will turn up. This shouldn't put you off Pickford though, as mentioned his ability to pick up save points makes him a very valuable player this season and he's also perfect for a rotational system. You'll struggle to find a better FPL player priced around the £4.0m mark than him.

Victor Anichebe (SUN)

Next 4: Liverpool (A), Leicester (H), Swansea (A), Chelsea (H). Price: £4.6m Ownership: 2.3% Having only played 15 minutes his first seven Sunderland's fixtures, Anichebe has now scored three goals in his last two games, picking up one assist in the process. Priced at just £4.6m and owned by 2.3%, the Nigerian has proved a cheap differential for the past two fixtures. There has been a lot of focus in the national media on the transformation of the striker with personal trainer Nicky Holender being credited with the change in form. The fitness guru has been pushing Anichebe right to the edge, forcing him to hold back the urge to vomit, instead completing one last set of interval sprints. Replicating that feeling he may get in the last 10 minutes of a football game. It's clear that his training has had a positive effect on the Sunderland striker and his all round performances in recent weeks prove this. He's been powerful and agile, however, does that translate into a solid FPL purchase? Probably not. It's hard for us to convince you to buy Anichebe over his teammate, Jermain Defoe. Of course he's incredibly cheap and is the perfect striker for rotation, however, it's very rare a player valued this cheap proves to be a consistent scorer in Fantasy Premier League. His fixtures also don't make for perfect reading. While, Liverpool are infamous for having a poor defence and Leicester City have struggled to keep clean sheets this season, especially on the road, the large majority of Sunderland's goals come through Defoe. As we've already covered in this article, if you want coverage from the Sunderland attack, you should be investing in Defoe. Article by Callum Read. Photo by Chelsea Debs.
