Goalkeepers [mks_col] [mks_one_half] [/mks_one_half] [mks_one_half]When looking for a safe pair of hands this season it's become our common practice to check who Southampton and West Brom are playing, then choosing the keeper with the easiest fixture. But there's a slight flaw in that tactic two times a season. This week Southampton visit The Hawthorns in a game that screams clean sheet louder than a cold Wednesday night fixture at Stoke. Ronald Koeman led his Saints new-boys to 7 clean sheets in his first 10 games and it looks like Tony Pulis is set to follow in familiar fashion having only conceded in 2 of his last 5 games since taking charge. Now comes the hard part… [/mks_one_half] [/mks_col] You'll need to make your choice between which one takes the number one shirt and which one looks on agonisingly from the bench. We found this decision so hard that we almost resorted to the coin toss, but in the end decided that based on the fact he has the home advantage. We opted for Foster over Forster… read that carefully. Heading in to this fixture on the back of two clean sheets we tip Ben Foster to continue his fine run of form against a Southampton team who have lacked attacking threat over the last month. The Baggies keeper has been the only regular in the West Brom defence this season, making him the only member of his team's backline to feature in all 10 clean sheets. He enters this fixture off the back of 2 consecutive clean sheets and we rate his chances to make that 3. That means that our narrowly out of favour, but still likely to crop up in a few of our weekly Fantasy Premier League teams is the reliable Fraser Forster. Since signing at the beginning of this season for a fee of £10 million, the former Celtic keeper has proved his weight in gold for Southampton. His first clean sheet came against West Brom in the reverse fixture after a goalless draw what a coincidence. He has gone on to pick up a 12 clean sheets placing him firmly at the top of the clean sheet table. If you opted to flip the coin at least you can rest easy based on the fact that these two have arguably been two of the best keepers this term.
Defenders [mks_col] [mks_one_half] [/mks_one_half] [mks_one_half]After some very impressive statistics Kieran Trippier has asserted his place in our team after finding a decent run of form. The fullback featured on the watch list of several managers this year after picking up 11 assists in Burnley's promotion season. In his last 3 games he has fired in 2 assists against big guns Chelsea and Manchester United, and his attacking threat from the back provides Burnley and Danny Ings with plenty of attacking crosses to work with. Swansea make the trip to Turf Moor this week and despite their win over a poor Manchester United side we think he stands a good chance of bringing defensive and attacking returns.[/mks_one_half] [/mks_col] Maya Yoshida is likely to remain alongside Jose Fonte in the Saints backline until teammate Toby Alderweireld returns from his thigh injury. The Japanese centre back has provided a cheap way in to the illustrious Southampton backline for a small price tag of just 4.3M. Since standing in for his injured teammate he's picked up 2 clean sheets and an assist with a perfectly weighted 92nd minute through ball to Sadio Mane to steal a last minute victory at Loftus Road. If you have a slightly more lavish budget set aside for your backline then you could alternatively consider Nathaniel Clyne. The well sought after right back has picked up points at both ends of the park this season, contributing to the Saints attack with 2 goals and an assist. If you'd rather pay slightly more to have a player who's nailed on and not subject to rotation risk then Clyne looks your best bet. [mks_col] [mks_one_half] [/mks_one_half] [mks_one_half]Arsenal's defensive record at home and run of form since the New Year speaks for itself; losing just once to Tottenham in early February and conceding once at home in 2015 to Leicester in the following match. Everton visit the Emirates this weekend with the Toffee's looking a shadow of the team that made the Europa League last season. They had to come from behind to scrape a draw against bottom of the table Leicester last weekend, and have only managed to win once in the New Year. Their poor goal scoring record and Arsenal's newly found lease of life creates a recipe for successful defending at the Emirates.[/mks_one_half] [/mks_col] Laurent Koscielny seems the obvious pick for Arsenal a likely starter who can also potential bring home goal returns on the odd occasion. West Ham's season may have taken a tumble in recent weeks and a year in Europe looks out of reach with Liverpool and Tottenham now above the Hammers, but with a home tie against struggling Crystal Palace it wouldn't be a surprise to see them back to winning ways after four games in succession where points have been dropped. At home to Palace it wouldn't be a surprise to see them go the full 90 without conceding, and Aaron Cresswell is a player who's brought home big returns so far this season. The 25-year old has started every single fixture for the Hammers this year after joining from Ipswich in the summer and an assist last week helped ensure an unexpected, but much welcomed points total for those who had him in their match day squads. West Ham may not have won in four games, but against Tottenham last week they outplayed the North London club, and a return to winning ways is what I expect this weekend against Palace.
Midfielders [mks_col] [mks_one_half] [/mks_one_half] [mks_one_half]David Silva turned provider for Sergio Aguero last night to give the sky blues a chance of making the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and his two goals against Newcastle would have helped anyone with him as their captain bring home a huge 34 points. Silva and midfield team-mate Samir Nasri both have two goals and two assists from their last three in the league, and the return of Yaya Toure seemed influential last week which could do damage against Liverpool on Sunday. Anfield will be a tough place to go, but with a chance to close the gap between themselves and Chelsea you can be sure City will look for the win on Sunday. [/mks_one_half] [/mks_col] After a long time on the sideline it appears as though the injury Mesut Ozil sustained in early October helped rejuvenate and refocus the German after a long summer in Brazil and a poor run of form for Arsenal. There was talk of where the German would sink into this Arsenal side following the emergence of Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla. But his performances since his return have begun explaining why such a large fee was spent on the midfielder at the beginning of last season. With one goal and two assists in his last three Premier League fixtures - added to a performance in the F.A. Cup that will frighten any defence - it looks like Ozil's Fantasy points will continue to rise in the coming weeks. However, this will be Arsenal's third game in a week and after the Champions League tie against Monaco on Sunday, Wenger may decide to rotate his midfield, which has already been wounded with injuries to the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin in recent times. If Ozil starts he is likely to damage an Everton side who have looked lacklustre all season, if he doesn't then Cazorla would be an ideal replacement. Manchester City look like a side on a mission to spoil Chelsea's Premier League parade and win back-to-back Premier League titles for the first time. Nine goals in two Premier League appearances and a possibility to close the gap between themselves and Chelsea to two points this weekend will give them a huge boost of confidence after going down to Barcelona in midweek. . [mks_col] [mks_one_half] [/mks_one_half] [mks_one_half]Although he may not have proved why he had a price tag of £56million this summer Angel Di Maria is still going about his business quietly for Manchester United. Despite a poor run of form and slipping back into fourth in the league the Argentinian has 3 assists in his last three matches in the league, and with United's home form currently the second best in the top flight were expecting them to go on and beat Sunderland this weekend. Sunderland beat United in this fixture last season, beating them for the first time at Old Trafford since 1968. The Black Cats are struggling recently however, after going out the Bradford City in the cup, there focus must be on Premier League survival, but United won't be doing them any favours this weekend.[/mks_one_half] [/mks_col] We're now going to do something that we didn't think was possible, and tip an attacking player for an Aston Villa side who last month had a goal drought that lasted longer than the Lord of the Rings trilogy. That's right, Villa went 6 matches, 43 days and over 10 hours without finding the back of the net and we're now going to tip one of their attackers. Hear us out though. Scott Sinclair was brought in on a season long loan by former boss Paul Lambert, who has since been replaced by miracle worker Tim Sherwood and the former Tottenham manager somehow lifted Villa's goal scoring curse. Sherwood's attacking approach has suited the winger who's picked up 2 goals in 2 games under his new boss, casting him into the FPL limelight for the first time since he left Swansea. This weekend Aston Villa head up north to face out of form Newcastle in a game Villa fans are hoping will mark a turnaround in their season.
Strikers [mks_col] [mks_one_half] [/mks_one_half] [mks_one_half]With Costa and Kane out this gameweek our attention turns to one man to kindly bring us home at least a goal return. Sergio Aguero netted in the champions league tie against Barcelona last week, and with three goals and two assists in his last three matches he is one player City need to remain on form if they are to catch league leaders Chelsea. 26 points in his last three fixtures speak for themselves, and were hopeful he'll only increase that further this weekend against Liverpool at Anfield. Suarez may have come back to haunt City in midweek, but only the likes of Sterling and Sturridge could potentially damage City this time around.[/mks_one_half] [/mks_col] Joining Aguero up top this weekend is one of the best value for money strikers available for selection this gameweeek. Danny Ings has been talismanic for The Clarets this campaign and could be viewed as the main factor in separating Burnley from their relegation rivals. The striker has been in explosive form in 2015, finding the back of the net 5 times in just 7 matches. Struggling Swansea visit Turf Moor this week, and despite their home win against a dismall Manchester United side the Welsh outfit have struggled defensively of late, and Ing's might just turn in one of Trippier's pinpoint crosses. We backed him last week and he delivered! Dame N'Doye has seemed to be the lift that Hull needed this year and has managed to put a smile back on Steve Bruce's gloomy face. The Senegalese striker settled down fast in England's ‘City of Culture' and has provided an instant impact smashing home in both of his full starts for The Tigers. The contribution of his strike partner Nikica Jelavic shouldn't be overlooked. The Bosnian and African strike force, surprisingly not the only in the Premier League, has looked cohesive and threating so far. Jelavic's recent form has seen him convert as many goals meriting him a place in any fantasy team. This weekend the pair travel to The Britannia looking to maintain their goalscoring form against a Stoke side who seem to have forgot they're known for keeping clean sheets.
