Bet4theBest: Winner Analysis & Tips.
Gameweek 10 was a high scoring weekend for most fantasy football managers with the likes of Sergio Aguero (16), Alexis Sanchez (13), Eden Hazard (13) and Romelu Lukaku (12) all returning double digit scores.
The average point score over on Fantasy Premier League was 58 but it would have taken 78 points to top the table(s) and cash in the prize(s) on Bet4theBest.
The most surprising thing about this week's winning team is that it was a late entry, created after the 3pm kick-offs and therefore without the likes of Aguero and Sanchez.
Understanding how ‘SUNDAY' won the Bet4theBest GW10 tournaments with a late-entry team:
With four matches remaining, SUNDAY had the option to select players from eight teams: Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Everton, West Ham, Southampton, Chelsea, Stoke & Swansea.
He decided to comprise a team consisting of the following:
GK: Everton.
DF: Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool.
MF: Stoke, Stoke, Swansea.
FW: Stoke, Everton, Chelsea
The team was clearly built around two key tactics:
- Stacking Liverpool's defence. Loading up on one team's defences mean that if they keep a clean sheet, you'll be rewarded with clean sheet points x4, and if one of their defenders score (which is worth maximum points on Bet4theBest) you'll own him.
- Loading up on Stoke's main attacking threats ahead of their home encounter to Swansea - a game that many expected them to win following their turn of form.
Liverpool and Stoke players accounted for 63% of the team (7 of 11 players). The other four players were Everton keeper Maarten Stekelenburg who didn't play, Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson and in-form strikers Romelu Lukaku (Everton) and Diego Costa (Chelsea).
The table above shows a breakdown of every point that contributed to the overall score of 78. Despite Bet4theBest having a fairly in-depth scoring system, SUNDAY only received points from five categories: Goals Scored (41pts), Minutes Played (21pts), Assists (13pts), Fouls Won (2pts) & Offsides Provokes (1pt).
As we mentioned in our Guide To Bet4theBest's Scoring System, the main way to pick up points is through goals - especially those scored by defenders. A defender goal is worth 8 points, whereas a striker goal is worth 5. As you can see above, Matip and Lovren - who both scored once - almost totalled the same score as Bony who scored twice.
The fact that Stekelenburg (who didn't play) and all four Liverpool defenders failed to return clean sheet points meant that SUNDAY missed out on 15 points (3pts per clean sheet). However, the two goals from Matip and Lovren provided perfect compensation with 16 points.
The table above further articulates how important goals are within Bet4theBest. Although SUNDAY picked up three assists from three midfielders, their combined score only equated to 14.1% overall. Meanwhile, defenders fell short of strikers by just under 10% which further reinstates how important defenders can be regardless of clean sheets.
The table above helps further visualise which areas you should target for points. It's clear that goals are the fundamentals to success, but it's also important to note that having 11 players who play 60+ minutes is worth 24 points alone. SUNDAY received 30% of his points from ‘minutes played'.
Fouls Won and Offsides Provokes are not worth focusing on but can provide a small boost to your overall score which could prove decisive. A defender who picks up an assist scores the same points as a striker who scores (see Costa/Moreno), again displaying the potential of defenders.
